Freeform will be changing up its schedule this January. Among the new additions are Family Guy, which will air Fridays from 8pm-11pm starting Friday, Jan. 3. In a quiet addition, Freeform has acquired current NBC comedy Superstore and will air it weekday mornings from 7am-9:30am starting Monday, Jan. 6. In a corporate synergy move, The Simpsons will now air regularly on Freeform Monday-Friday from 4pm-6pm starting Jan. 6 (and of course it will still remain on FXX). The only other sitcom on the schedule is The Middle, which will now air usually between 1pm-4pm.

January is also a big month for Freeform for original series. The new Party of Five has its series premiere on Wednesday, Jan. 8 with back to back episodes from 9pm-11pm. Drama Good Trouble has its season premiere the following week on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 10pm. In comedy news, grown-ish has its season premiere on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 8pm, followed by new comedy Everything's Gonna Be Okay with its series premiere on the same night (Thursday, Jan. 16) with back to back episodes from 8:30pm-9:30pm. And finally, returning drama The Bold Type has its season premiere the following week on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 9pm.

WarnerMedia and Xandr, both part of AT&T, announced the two companies will join together for the first time on the Upfront stage next May 13, 2020. This inaugural event will showcase the future of advertising capabilities. After more than a year of significant collaboration, launching new and enhanced products with dozens of successful advertising case studies, both will step out on stage together. WarnerMedia and Xandr will share the unparalleled opportunity to advertisers when assembling world-class brands, premium content and experiences, powerful advertising technology, distinct collections of audiences, personalized insights, 5G-enabled capabilities, and a future-look for ongoing innovation.

In 2019, both teams collaborated on go-to-market strategies but featured two separate, complementary Upfront events. Building on what both groups accomplished in the past year, this Upfront promises to not only highlight premium storytelling and content coming to the WarnerMedia brands, but also lean into tangible results through advertising solutions available now, with an eye toward future development, including the anticipated AVOD version of HBO Max, expected in 2021. The WarnerMedia and Xandr Upfront will take place the morning of Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Additional details will be available closer to the date of the event.

Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media - and the landscape of New York itself - has changed in the intervening years. HBO Max (WarnerMedia's upcoming streaming service) will serve as the home of this new series. Casting and a premiere date has not been yet announced. This direct-to-series will have ten all-new one-hour episodes from Fake Empire and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios. Joshua Safran of Random Acts will executive produce, along with Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage of Fake Empire; Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo of Alloy Entertainment.

Beginning Monday, Sept. 9, entertainment veteran Mario Lopez will join Kit Hoover and Scott Evans as host of both Access Hollywood and its daytime counterpart, Access Daily (formerly Access Live). In addition, Lopez has signed an overall development and producing deal for both scripted and alternative programming with Universal Television and Universal Television Alternative Studio. Access Hollywood currently in its 23rd season, is an Emmy Award-nominated, daily, half-hour, nationally syndicated entertainment news program. Hosted by Kit Hoover, along with Senior correspondent Scott Evans and correspondent Sibley Scoles, the show takes viewers behind the velvet ropes and on to the red carpet to deliver the hottest celebrity interviews and the biggest entertainment news stories in Hollywood. Access Live (soon to be Access Daily), currently in its ninth season, is a daily one-hour syndicated entertainment news talk show co-hosted by Kit Hoover and Scott Evans. The show features in-studio celebrity guests and breaks down the biggest entertainment, viral and feel-good moments from around the country, keeping viewers up to date on all things pop culture. Both shows tape from the Terrace Studios, adjacent to the Universal Studios lot, in Universal City, Calif.

Well, another sitcom on Netflix has bitten the dust -or, rather, will soon. Warner Bros. (WarnerMedia) announced this week it will be launching its own streaming service this fall, so all Warner-related properties will be removed from Netflix and other streaming services and onto the Warner-exclusive app. It's just the latest sitcom to be removed from the site (although to be fair, the service is planning on launching next year, so you still have a few months to get your Friends fix), however, the trend is clear and has been for a while. Netflix is losing much of its streaming library as other companies are looking to cash in on the streaming trend.

Whether or not you're a fan of Friends or The Office or any of the sitcoms that will be leaving the service for greener pastures, this news no doubt has a large effect on the future of streaming services. If you're someone who has gotten used to having so many sitcoms and other TV shows at your fingerprints with just one or two monthly subscriptions, well...that reality may be ending very soon. Currently, most major series of the past 20 years or so are on either Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon. In the next year, there are new streaming services planned by Disney, Warner Bros, and NBC - and that may be just the beginning. That brings the "major" streaming services from just 3 to 6, and if you want access to a library on par with the one the current "big 3" streaming services give you, your monthly subscription will double. At one time, streaming TV was thought of as being a revolution, a way for us to cut cords and contracts and watch whatever we wanted with way less money and hassle. It's still a lot easier and cheaper than cable, but things are certainly getting more and more fragmented - let's just hope we don't wind up right back where we started.

Emmy-winning actor Rip Torn, who starred as Artie in The Larry Sanders Show, has died. He died on July 9 at his home in Lakeville, Connecticut. Mr. Torn was 88.

Torn starred as Artie in the 1992-1998 HBO sitcom The Larry Sanders Show. Artie (Arthur) was the producer of the fictional talk show The Larry Sanders Show. Torn was nominated for six consecutive Emmy nominations for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for the role, winning in 1996. He received two American Comedy Awards nominations for Funniest Male Performance in a Series, winning once in 1994, and two CableACE Awards for his work on the series. The series also starred Garry Shandling, Jeffrey Tambor, Penny Johnson, Janeane Garofalo (first five seasons), Mary Lynn Rajskub (final two seasons), Jeremy Piven (season one and part of season two), Wallace Langham, Linda Doucett (first three seasons), Scott Thompson (final three seasons), Megan Gallagher (first season and Jeannie's Visit) and Kathryn Harrold (second season).

He appeared as Lionel Banks, a rich bachelor and love interest of Karen Walker (Megan Mullally), in four episodes of the NBC sitcom Will & Grace in 2002. He had a recurring role as Don Geiss, the CEO of GE and Jack Donaghy's (Alec Baldwin) boss and mentor, in seven episodes of the NBC sitcom 30 Rock from 2007 to 2009. He received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for the role in 2008.

Torn was the narrator for The Family Channel horror anthology series Ghost Stories from 1997 to 1998. He appeared in four episodes as Senator Harlan M. Turner, Jack Turner's (Rob Lowe) powerful father, in the short-lived 2003 NBC legal drama The Lyon's Den.

Some of his television drama guest appearances included Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Naked City, Dr. Kildare, The Lieutenant, Combat!, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Mannix, Rawhide, Bonanza, The Eddie Capra Mysteries, Columbo (1991) and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. He received an Emmy nomination in 1996 for his role as Dr. Warren Shutt in the Chicago Hope episode titled Hello Goodbye.

He was also known for his work in many films. Some of his film credits in the 1960s included Sweet Bird of Earth, Hero's Island, Critic's Choice, You're a Big Boy Now, Beach Red, Coming Apart and Tropic of Cancer. In the 1970s, he starred in Maidstone, Slaughter, Payday, The Man Who Fell to Earth, Coma, The Seduction of of Joe Tynan and Heartland.

Torn received a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Marsh Turner in 1983's Cross Creek. He starred as Maax in 1982's The Beastmaster and as Bud Kruger in 1982's Airplane II: The Sequel. Some of his other 1980s and later film credits included Misunderstood, Flashpoint, City Heat, Summer Rental, Extreme Prejudice, Nadine, Defending Your Life, RoboCop 3, Men in Black, Men in Black II, Freddy Got Fingered and DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story.

Mr. Torn was wonderful as Artie in The Larry Sanders Show. He was just a solid actor in his many television and film roles. We thank him for the laughs and entertainment he brought us during his long career. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife Amy Wright, six children, four grandchildren and one sister.

We also remember young actor Cameron Boyce. He starred as Luke Ross in the Disney Channel sitcom Jessie and as Conor in the Disney XD sitcom Gamer's Guide to Pretty Much Everything. He died on July 6 in his sleep at his home in Los Angeles due to an epileptic seizure. Mr. Boyce was just 20.

Boyce starred as Luke Ross in the 2011-2015 Disney Channel sitcom Jessie. Luke was the second oldest of the Ross children. The series follows Jessie Prescott (Debby Ryan) working as a nanny for the wealthy Ross family who live on the Upper West Side. It also starred Peyton List, Karan Brar, Skai Jackson and Kevin Chamberlin. The series ran for four seasons and 98 episodes.

He next starred as Conor in the 2015-2017 Disney XD sitcom Gamer's Guide to Pretty Much Everything. Conor is a professional video game player who goes by the name of Kid Fury. The series also starred Murray Wyatt Rundus, Felix Avitia and Sophie Reynolds. It ran for two seasons and 37 episodes.

Boyce had a recurring role as Michael "Stone" Cates, Jr. in the Soapnet series General Hospital: Night Shift in 2008. He made guest appearances in Good Luck Charlie, Shake It Up, Liv and Maddie, Bunk'd and Code Black.

He made his feature film debut in 1998's Mirrors. He starred as Keithie Feder, Lenny Feder's (Adam Sandler) son, in Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2. His other film credits included 2008's Eagle Eye and 2011's Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer.

Boyce starred as Carlos in the Disney Channel's television films The Descendants in 2015 and the sequel Descendants 2 in 2017. Carlos is the son of of Cruella de Vil (Wendy Raquel Robinson). He provided the voice of Carlos in the television shorts Descendants: Wicked World from 2015 to 2017.

He provided the voice of Jake in seasons 2-3 of Disney Junior's Jake and the Never Land Pirates. His other voice credits included a 2014 episode of Ultimate Spider-Man as Luke Ross and a 2017 episode of Spider-Man as Shocker / Herman Schultz.

Survivors include his parents, Libby and Victor, and his sister, Maya.

Mr. Boyce was a talented actor and a rising star. He had a number of upcoming projects including Descendants 3 (which will premiere August 2), the HBO comedy series Mrs. Fletcher, the TV series Paradise City and the independent thriller film Runt. It's a tragic loss for his fans, friends and family. He will be deeply missed.

WarnerMedia unveiled HBO Max as the name of its new streaming service, which will offer an impressive direct-to-consumer experience for everyone ranging from families with young children to adults of all ages. Anchored with and inspired by the legacy of HBO's excellence and award-winning storytelling, the new service will be "Maximized" with an extensive collection of exclusive original programming (Max Originals) and the best-of-the-best from WarnerMedia's enormous portfolio of beloved brands and libraries. New deals with Warner Bros. Television and others for HBO Max announced today include:

· The exclusive streaming rights at launch to all 236 episodes of Friends - one of the biggest hits on television and in streaming
· The exclusive streaming rights at launch to all episodes of fan favorites The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Pretty Little Liars
· The exclusive streaming home to a string of new Warner Bros.' produced dramas for The CW beginning with the fall 2019 season, including the highly-anticipated new DC Entertainment series Batwoman, and Katy Keene (spinoff of Riverdale)
· New exclusive movie production deals with Greg Berlanti, one of Hollywood's most prolific and successful producers, and Reese Witherspoon, Academy Award(R) and Emmy Award(R)-winning actress and producer; Berlanti will produce an initial four movies focused in the young adult space, while Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine will produce at least two films

HBO Max, scheduled to launch commercially in spring of 2020, is anticipated to premiere with 10,000 hours of premium content. Max Original series previously announced include: Dune: The Sisterhood, an adaptation of Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson's book based in the world created by Frank Herbert's book Dune, from director Denis Villeneuve; Tokyo Vice, based on Jake Adelstein's non-fiction first-hand account of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police beat starring Ansel Elgort; The Flight Attendant, a one-hour thriller series based on the novel by Chris Bohjalian, which will star Kaley Cuoco, who is also executive producing alongside Greg Berlanti; Love Life, a 10-episode half-hour romantic comedy anthology series starring Anna Kendrick, who will also executive produce alongside Paul Feig; Station Eleven, a postapocalyptic limited series based on Emily St. John Mandel's international bestseller, adapted by Patrick Somerville and directed by Hiro Murai; Made for Love, a 10-episode, half-hour, straight-to-series adaptation based on the tragicomic novel of the same name by Alissa Nutting, also from Somerville and directed by S.J. Kelley, directed by Susanne Bier starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant; The Plot Against America, reimagined history based on Phillip Roth's novel written and executive produced by David Simon and Ed Burns, starring Winona Ryder and John Turturro; Perry Mason, the classic legal drama for a new generation, executive produced by Robert Downey, Jr. and Susan Downey, with Matthew Rhys in the title role; I Know This Much Is True, a complex family drama starring Mark Ruffalo playing twin brothers, one of whom has schizophrenia, based on the best-selling novel by Wally Lamb, written and directed by Derek Cianfrance.

IMDb (www.imdb.com), the world's most popular and authoritative source for movie, TV and celebrity content, announced its first-ever animated comedy series: You're Not a Monster (www.imdb.com/monster). Fans will get a sneak peek of the 10-episode, short-form series when its trailer premieres on the IMDboat at Comic-Con International: San Diego later this month, and full episodes will premiere this fall. The show joins other IMDb original series now airing including The IMDb Show, IMDbrief and Casting Calls.

You're Not a Monster demonstrates that even classic movie monsters have emotional issues - because the only thing worse than being undead is being unloved. Returning to the "therapist's chair" for the first time since Frasier, Kelsey Grammer voices a former psychiatrist-turned-vampire in the series, who mentors his great-great grandson "Max" (Eric Stonestreet), a therapist who has inherited his practice. In each 4 to 5 minute episode, Max treats classic monsters including Frankenstein, The Invisible Man and Medusa as they seek desperately needed therapeutic help. Rounding out the series cast is Aparna Nancherla as a demon receptionist, Ellie Kemper as a therapist who thinks Max is imagining everything, and Peter Grosz, Langston Kerman, Joel Kim Booster, Patton Oswalt, Adam Pally, Amber Ruffin, Amy Sedaris and Milana Vayntrub as hideous monsters. Show creators and cast members including Grammer and Nancherla will participate in an exclusive interview with host Kevin Smith on the IMDboat at San Diego Comic-Con on July 20.

Well, just when it seemed like all hope was lost for One Day at a Time, it finally happened. The beloved yet cancelled revival of the 1970s sitcom was miraculously resurrected by Pop TV - yes, the former TV Guide Network - for a fourth season, set to air in 2020. This is a landmark deal not just for fans of One Day at a Time - although the fact that we will get to see more of the Alvarez family is seriously exciting - but also for TV in general. Over the past 5-6 years, we've gotten used to streaming services swooping in and saving network and cable TV shows from cancellation. Now, we have the opposite happening - a cable network has saved a cancelled streaming series. It seems we've come full circle, haven't we?

One Day at a Time going to Pop TV - an admittedly lesser known cable network - seems strange at first, but makes more sense the more you think about it. After all, Pop TV is home to Schitt's Creek, another little watched but critically cherished family sitcom. More importantly, the network is owned by CBS, who previously expressed interest in the show for its CBS All Access streaming service but was denied the ability by Netflix due to the platform's (frankly ridiculous) rules about its originals switching streaming services. One Day at a Time will premiere its new episodes on Pop, but will also rerun them on CBS, which should give the series a chance to reach new fans. Frankly, One Day at a Time has always felt like it would do best on a traditional TV network, and CBS's audience could very well eat the show up (it would fit well with Mom). I really hope this series works out for the show, as there's nothing quite like it on TV. But I'm also interested to see just what this means for streaming services going forward. With Netflix going on a cancellation spree lately, could some of its other casualties find a new home? In this new "cable network saves streaming services" world, it seems like anything's possible.

WarnerMedia has ordered Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, a 10-episode, half-hour prequel to original Gremlins, for it OTT streaming sertvice. In the animated television adaptation, we travel back to 1920s Shanghai to reveal the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing (future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 movie) met the young Mogwai called Gizmo. Along with a teenage street thief named Elle, Sam and Gizmo take a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering, and sometimes battling, colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.
