Continuing its successful partnership with prolific producer Tyler Perry, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced a 38-episode order for a new comedy series from Perry, The Paynes, a spinoff of his popular series House of Payne. The network has also ordered 44 additional episodes of Perry's hit OWN drama series The Haves and the Have Nots and 18 episodes of If Loving You is Wrong. Written, directed and produced by Tyler Perry, The Paynes meets back up with Curtis and Ella Payne (stars LaVan Davis and Cassi Davis reprising their roles) who are trying to enjoy their retirement in Florida only to get roped into a real estate deal that will tumble their lives like clothes in a dryer. The series also stars Jackée Harry, Stephanie Charles, Markice Moore, JD McCrary and Sanai Victoria. The comedy has begun production at the new Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta and will premiere on OWN in 2018.

Additionally, the network announced the final seasons of Perry's popular comedy series Love Thy Neighbor and For Better or Worse, which will both move to Saturday nights. Love Thy Neighbor will premiere its fourth season on Saturday, March 4 with back-to-back episodes at 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET/PT. For Better or Worse will premiere its sixth season on Saturday, June 10 with back-to-back episodes at 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET/PT. Both series will air through 2017 with 22 and 20 episodes respectively.

ABC Family announced the network has green-lit a fifth season of its hit original comedy series Baby Daddy. The order came just as production has wrapped on the series' fourth season. Baby Daddy is currently airing all-new episodes Wednesday nights at 8:30PM, and the Season 4A finale will air on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 8:30PM ET/PT on ABC Family. Returning with 1-year highs for its Winter 2015 Season 4 premiere across target demos, to date, Baby Daddy ranks as cable TV's #1 series on Wednesdays at 8:30pm in Adults 18-34, Women 18-34 and Females 12-34 and is the #1 original cable TV telecast in Women 18-49 (616,000/1.0 rating). The series was also recently nominated for a People's Choice Award for Favorite Cable TV Comedy. Baby Daddy of course stars Jean-Luc Bilodeau as Ben Wheeler, Chelsea Kane as Riley, Tahj Mowry as Tucker, Derek Theler as Danny Wheeler and Melissa Peterman as Bonnie Wheeler. OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced that it is ordering additional episodes of its four popular Tyler Perry scripted series including 23 one-hour episodes of the drama The Haves and the Have Nots; 22 one-hour episodes of the companion drama If Loving You is Wrong; 22 half-hour episodes of the comedy Love Thy Neighbor; and 20 half-hour episodes of the comedy For Better or Worse. We'll detail the two latter ones since they are sitcoms. Love Thy Neighbor will have its season finale on Wednesday, March 18 at 9 pm ET/PT) - In the season finale of the beloved comedy set at The Love Train Diner, Mama Hattie's (Patrice Lovely) daughter Linda's (Kendra C. Johnson) baby shower is interrupted by a very big surprise.

Love Thy Neighbor is followed a week later by the season premiere of the long-running "dramedy," For Better or Worse. In the Season 4 premiere on Friday, March 27 at 9pm ET/PT) - The series follows the ups and downs of dating and marriage and centers on Angela Williams (Tasha Smith), the owner of a successful beauty salon, and her husband of 13 years, Marcus (Michael Jai White). This new season, Keisha (Kiki Haynes) and Richard's (Kent Faulcon) messy divorce causes tensions among their entire group of friends as well as creates problems for C Sports. Richard leans heavily on his friendship with Marcus and Angela as he is forced to move in with them during this difficult time. Meanwhile, Joseph (Jason Olive) and Leslie (Crystle Stewart) are settling into life together and begin the harrowing task of planning a wedding. Despite it all, this season delivers more laughs than ever as this cast of characters deal with these uncanny situations in the most eclectic and unconventional ways. The third network to add Raising Hope this fall will be... WGN America. The comedy launches with a three night premiere event beginning Wednesday, September 24 at 8P East/5P West. The premiere event will air from 8-11pm ET/5-8pm PT on all three nights from Sept. 24-26. The series will then air every Wednesday in primetime from 8pm-12am. Elsewhere in primetime, How I Met Your Mother will air in primetime on Thursdays from 8pm-1am. Movies will air Tuesdays and Fridays, while Mondays will have AFV from 8-11pm and Parks & Recreation from 11pm-12am. Weeknights in late nights have sitcoms from 1am-4am, with an hour each of Parks & Recreation, Rules of Engagement and 30 Rock. The weekday daytime schedule has Walker Texas Ranger at 9 & 10am, In the Heat of the Night at 11am & 12pm, and the news at 1pm. Afternoons as Law & Order at 2 & 3pm, new addition Blue Bloods at 4 & 5pm, and AFV at 6 & 7pm.

Weekends has Walker Texas Ranger at 9 & 10am and In the Heat of the Night at 11am & 12pm as well, but another In the Heat of the Night at 1. Law & Order: Criminal Intent airs at 2 & 3pm, followed by Law & Order at 4pm & 5pm. Bones airs at 6 & 7pm into Blue Bloods in primetime from 8pm-12am, but original series Manhattan airs on Sundays at 10 & 11pm. Late nights on weekends has a mix of comedies and movies, with Mad About You on Sunday nights at 4:30am. Keep it right here for continued updates.

OWN's popular Tyler Perry sitcom For Better or Worse returned last Wednesday night (9/17/14) with its fall premiere episode at 9pm delivering the series' best performance since it debuted on the network one year ago (9/18/13). The premiere episode earned 1.2 million total viewers and a 1.0 rating in the network's key women 25-54 demo. Wednesday night's episode grew double-digits in both the women 25-54 demo (up +52%) and in total viewers (up +52%) vs. the spring season average (4/9/14-6/11/14). Additionally, it ranked #2 in the time period in all of cable for women 25-54. For Better or Worse, about the ups and downs of dating and marriage, centers on Angela Williams (Tasha Smith), the owner of a successful beauty salon, and her husband of 13 years, Marcus (Michael Jai White). Marcus is a former professional football player who is partnered with Richard Ellington (Kent Faulcon) and Joseph Jetson (Jason Olive) on a sports program called "C-Sports Now." Marcus's business relationship with Richard and Joseph is complicated, however, by the fact that Richard is married to Keisha (Kiki Haynes), Marcus's ex-girlfriend and the mother of his teenage daughter. In addition, Joseph's ex-girlfriend, successful real-estate agent Leslie (Crystle Stewart), is Angela's best friend, which sometimes makes it difficult for everyone to keep their business and private lives from mingling. It's almost that time of year again...the start of the new TV season! So let's get ready for that with annual network preview specials to inform us on what is new and returning! See our Fall 2012 preview from last year.

First up we will look at ABC. ABC's Fall 2013 preview special is titled ABC Fall Preview Special Presented by The Chew. Once again ABC will air two versions -- one in primetime and one for local ABC affiliates. The primetime version will be one-hour and air on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 7pm ET. The special showcases the new fall Primetime lineup, including the brand new Tuesday line-up of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Goldbergs, Trophy Wife and Lucky 7. The special will also feature the other new fall series Back in the Game, Super Fun Night, Betrayal and Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. The preview show will be hosted by The Chew's entertaining and style expert Clinton Kelly from Walt Disney Studios in California. Celebrity chefs Mario Batali, Michael Symon, and Carla Hall, along with wellness enthusiast Daphne Oz will each feature a new series. A half-hour version will be airing on ABC Affiliates beginning Sept. 14, so check your local listings (WABC in NYC hasn't scheduled it yet). The primetime version will be reaired on ABC on Monday, Sept. 2 at 1pm ET/12pm PT and on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 3:30pm ET/3pm PT. The special also airs on ABC-owned cable networks as well, as ABC Family will air it on Monday, Sept. 16 at 11:59pm. And as of now, it isn't on abc.com but it is still early.

Next is CBS. The CBS Fall 2013 preview special, simply titled CBS Fall Preview Sneak Peek will be a primetime special previewing CBS's new fall lineup on Thursday, Sept. 12 from 8:30-9:00 PM, ET/PT nationally on the CBS Television Network following an encore of The Big Bang Theory and leading into the final Thursday broadcast of Big Brother. The preview will feature sneak peeks of the five new additions to CBS's primetime schedule this fall: the drama series Hostages, and the comedy series Mom, The Crazy Ones, The Millers and We Are Men. CBS.com doesn't usually post the preview, so you'll have to watch it on-air or if you miss that, your local CBS might air it on a weekend in the daytime -- but that is not confirmed.

Moving on to NBC, the NBC Fall 2013 preview special (titled once again The NBC Primetime Preview Show) will start airing on their cable owned networks & local NBC affiliates (such as USA, Syfy, Bravo, UniHD, Chiller, mun2, MSNBC, CNBC, Oxygen, Sleuth, Xfinity, E! Entertainment Television, mun2, NBC2Go, on-demand and broadband) as of Aug. 24 and will continue to run through Oct. 6 (in NYC it is on next on WNBC Sat Sept. 1 at 7pm). The preview also will be made available to NBC affiliates and the network's owned television stations websites. In addition, American Airlines will feature the show in its in-flight programming. The special will be hosted by Sean Hayes and the cast of NBC's new comedy Sean Saves the World. The entertainment special will focus on NBC's new shows for the fall, including the dramas The Blacklist, Ironside and Dracula, along with the new comedies Welcome to the Family, The Michael J. Fox Show and Sean Saves the World.

Onto Fox, the Fox Fall 2013 preview special starts airing on local Fox affiliates soon on weekends and is simply titled Fox Fall Preview Special. It will only run on local Fox affiliates again and not on Fox in primetime. No information is available as of this writing on who is hosting and what the special features, but it will of course feature their new programs: Dads, Sleepy Hollow, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Enlisted, Almost Human, and MasterChef Junior. No idea yet also if it will be on fox.com, but check your local Fox listings for on-air showtimes.

And finally we conclude with The CW. The CW's Fall 2013 TV preview special is called The CW Fall First Look is airing on local CW affiliates as of last weekend (such as NY's WPIX on Sun. Sept 8 at 12:30am and Saturday, Sept. 14 at 3:30pm)! No word if it will also air nationally on The CW, but it didn't last year. Series featured will be Reign, The Tomorrow People, and The Originals. The affiliate special is a half-hour. No word yet on if you can watch the affiliate special online yet.

OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced that it has ordered an additional 26 episodes of the network's popular comedy from Tyler Perry Love Thy Neighbor (Wednesdays at 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.) bringing the total season order to 52 episodes. The current cycle will had its two-episode finale last night, with the new episodes premiering in January 2014. As previously announced, Tyler Perry's sitcom For Better or Worse will take over the timeslot beginning Wednesday, September 18 with two back-to-back half hour episodes at 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. For Better or Worse moves to OWN with all new episodes for season three. It previously aired on TBS in originals. Back to Love Thy Neighbor, it is set at a family-run diner, where feisty matriarch Hattie Mae Love (Patrice Lovely) has her hands full not only managing her customers but also her family drama. Since its debut on May 29, the series is averaging over 1 million total viewers, a 0.88 W25-54 rating and is Wednesday night's #1 original series on all of television for African American viewers.

In addition, the network has ordered an additional four episodes of the Tyler Perry drama The Haves and the Have Nots on top of the 16 additional episodes ordered in June. This brings the total order for The Haves and the Have Nots to 36 episodes for its first season. The series continues to break ratings records each week with its most recent broadcast on Tuesday, August 20 scoring its highest rated episode to-date in the network's key demo of women 25-54 (1.76 rating). Back to Tyler Perry's popular sitcom For Better or Worse, the series follows three couples as they navigate the ups-and-downs of dating and marriage. It makes its OWN debut with the premiere of its third season on Wednesday, September 18 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT (two back-to-back half-hour episodes). In the season premiere, Leslie Norris (Crystle Stewart, Miss USA 2008), rushes to the hospital on her wedding day after finding out Joseph Jetson (Jason Olive, Raising Helen) has been in a serious accident, leaving her pending nuptials to fiancé Chris (Eddie Cibrian, CSI: Miami) in question.

TV One has acquired the classic funky '70s sitcom What's Happening!! for its Friday night classic comedy line-up! The sitcom will begin airing on Friday, March 1, with a special two-hour block of episodes centered on Rerun (played by the late Fred Berry) from 8-10pm, as part of TV One's Friday night classic comedy block. Episodes airing on this night are all from season two: "Rerun Get's Married," "Give Me Odds," "Going Going Gong," and "Rerun Sees the Light." The special launch will encore the following day (Saturday, March 2) from 12-2pm. The What's Happening!! launch will lead into the season finale of original comedy Belle's on Friday at 10pm. TV One usually airs a block of classic comedies from 8-10pm, with series such as The Jeffersons, Good Times, A Different World all filling in. But wait, there's more! What's Happening!! will be airing on a regular basis beginning the following week. Effective Friday, March 8, the Friday night classic comedy block will have a set regular schedule and What's Happening!! will air Fridays at 11:00pm & 11:30pm ET! The Friday night classics schedule begins with That's My Mama at 8:00pm & 8:30pm, followed by back-to-back The Jeffersons at 9:00pm & 9:30pm, and Good Times at 10:00pm & 10:30pm leading into What's Happening!! It's a time warp back to the '70s on Friday nights! The What's Happening!! episodes will be going in order from the first episode and will encore on Saturdays at 2:00pm & 2:30pm beginning March 9. The Saturday morning schedule will have four episodes of That's My Mama from 6-8am, then a block of Good Times from 8am-12pm and Martin from 12-2pm leading into What's Happening!!

What's Happening!! has aired on TV One in the past, but only for Black History Month back in 2010 and not as a regular series. The series hasn't aired regularly on cable since it aired on TV Land from 2005-07. TV Land also aired select episodes from the follow-up series What's Happening Now!! but TV One does not have the rights to air that series, as of now. No other schedule changes will occur on TV One, so the classic Friday night comedy block will now have a set schedule and a new addition, while Saturday mornings will also get a bit of a makeover. Tyler Perry's popular sitcom For Better or Worse is coming to OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network with a third season of all new episodes debuting in the fall of 2013. In addition, the network has garnered the encore rights for the first two seasons of the sitcom's 45 episodes that originally aired on TBS. The series, which was basic cable's #1 sitcom of 2011 and the #1 show on all of television with African-American adults, follows three couples who are at various stages of their relationships as they weather the ups-and-downs of married life and dating. The original cast is set to return in their starring roles including Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Crystle Stewart, Kent Faulcon, Kiki Haynes and Jason Olive. Production will begin in Atlanta in April.

For Better or Worse will mark OWN's third scripted series from Perry who has an exclusive deal with the network to produce brand new television series and projects. The first two original series - the sitcom Love Thy Neighbor and the ensemble drama The Haves and the Have Nots - are set to premiere Wednesday, May 29. The original series mark the network's first venture into scripted programming and now they will have an established comedy to pitch in the fall in For Better or Worse. The series wrapped up its TBS-run in December with all-new episodes and repeats were airing on Friday nights through the end of January. Before it moves to OWN, TBS is still airing the series Tuesday and Wednesdays at 4am.
As for Love Thy Neighbor, it is a half-hour comedy set at Love's Diner, where every day the menu serves up good food, great laughs, valuable life lessons and a whole lot of love for its zany neighbors. Jonathan Chase, Palmer Williams, Patrice Lovely, Kendra C. Johnson, Andre Hall and Darmirra Brunson star.

We hinted late last week that TV Land will bring back two series to the schedule. We can now reveal what they are! First, they will not be airing in high profile timeslots, but it will be good to see them airing, I guess. First up, TV Land will bring back The Jeffersons from hiatus and will air it Mon-Thurs at 5:30am starting Monday, March 5, 2012. The long-running 70s/80s sitcom will replace one of the Home Improvement encores (on Fridays at 5:30am will now be an extra Three's Company airing). What about the second series? That will be the comedic legal drama Boston Legal starring James Spader and William Shatner. The shat-tastic series will air Fridays at 8am beginning Friday, March 30, 2012. It will be replacing an airing of Murder, She Wrote, which will remain Mon-Thurs at 8am and weekdays at 1pm. There will be no other schedule changes in March or April on TV Land, as of now.
We do have some highlights to share. TV Land will have a week-long marathon of The King of Queens from Monday, April 2 through Sunday, April 8 from 9pm-12am each night. This means the regular Everybody Loves Raymond airings will air from 12-2am instead for this week only. TV Land movies now air on weekends (mostly Saturdays at 2pm) and for March the movies airing are: Miss Congeniality, A League of Their Own, Legends of the Fall, and When Harry Met Sally. As of now, TV Land is not airing movies in April. And finally, probably the most anticipated event of the year for TV Land are the annual TV Land Awards. We can reveal that TV Land will air the 2012 TV Land Awards (the 10th Annual TV Land Awards!) on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at 9pm. The awards will likely tape on Saturday, April 14 (probably in NYC for the second straight year). We will have MUCH more on this when further information is announced. What series will reunite this year after we saw many last year like Welcome Back Kotter, The Cosby Show, Facts of Life and Family Ties. Perhaps the remaining cast members of Three's Company now that Joyce DeWitt and Suzanne Somers have made up will reunite? We shall soon see, but it makes perfect sense as that series will be celebrating its 35th anniversary in March. And to connect it even more, series star the late John Ritter hosted the very first TV Land Awards back in 2002. As of now, TV Land has not booked a special marathon event for Three's Company like it did for the 25th and 30th anniversaries. All we can say is, stay with us for further information!

TBS has ordered 35 additional episodes of the top-rated dramedy Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse, which finished its first season as basic cable's #1 sitcom of 2011. In addition to its episode order for Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse, TBS recently announced that this summer, the network will premiere the new sitcoms Men at Work, starring Danny Masterson, James Lesure, Michael Cassidy and Adam Busch, and Sullivan and Son, starring comedian Steve Byrne. Also this year, TBS will launch The Wedding Band, a new one-hour comedy series starring Brian Austin Green, Harold Perrineau, Peter Cambor and Derek Miller, Melora Hardin, Jenny Wade and Kathryn Fiore. As a result, TBS has canceled Meet the Browns after five seasons (140 total episodes). The final episode aired on November 18. TBS will continue to air House of Payne, which is in its eighth season (250 episodes) and airs Fridays at 9pm.

I Hate My Teenage Daughter is a new multi-camera family comedy starring Jaime Pressly and Katie Finneran as single moms, best friends – and former nerds – who fear their privileged and overly indulged daughters are turning out just like the mean girls who picked on them in high school.

Annie (Pressly), who was raised in an ultra-strict, über-religious household where she had little-to-no freedom, pretty much allows her daughter, Sophie (Kristi Lauren), to do whatever she wants. Annie's best friend Nikki (Finneran), once an unpopular, overweight social pariah, is now a pretty Southern belle who also allows her daughter, Mackenzie (Aisha Dee), to do as she pleases.

The moms have given the girls everything they’ve asked for and everything they never had: clothes, money and self-esteem. The unintended consequence is that they have created two mean girls just like the ones who tortured them years ago.

The series also stars Eric Sheffer Stevens as Annie's ex-husband Matt, who wants to be a good parent, but doesn't know what that even means; Kevin Rahm as Matt's brother Jack, a father figure to Sophie whose meddling would annoy Annie more if she didn't have such a crush on him; and Chad L. Coleman as Gary, Nikki's ex-husband, who also tries to help raise his challenging daughter, but the couple's complicated relationship often makes his involvement more difficult.

As their daughters begin to experience their first high school dances and other life-changing teen events, Annie and Nikki are often reminded of their own tortured adolescent years. But when Sophie and Mackenzie's mean-girl antics cross the line, the moms quickly realize that they must, for the first time, dole out some real punishment and fix what is broken. They have no idea how to do that, but they do know one thing: They can't do it without each other.

Best known as the feisty "Joy Turner" on My Name is Earl, she won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2007. She also received a Golden Globe and a SAG Award.

Pressly's film credits include I Love You, Man, Not Another Teen Movie, Ticker, The Adventures of Joe Dirt, Tomcats, Ringmaster and Can't Hardly Wait. She will next be seen in The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure and 6 Month Rule. Her television credits include Jack and Jill, the made-for-TV movie Evel Knievel and Happy Family.

A seasoned theater actress, Katie Finneran (Nikki) received Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for her performance in the recent Broadway revival of Promises, Promises as well as Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for her performance in the Broadway revival of Noises Off.

Her film appearances include Baby on Board, Broken Bridges, Firehouse Dog, Miss Congeniality 2, Bewitched, You've Got Mail, Liberty Heights and Night of the Living Dead. Finneran's television credits include The Inside, Wonderfalls, Bram and Alice, Frasier and Oz.

Kristi Lauren (Sophie) has had a passion for entertainment for as long as she can remember. With a love to make people laugh, she has participated in various improv shows at the Raven Playhouse and at the prestigious The Second City.

The 17-year-old's television credits include Working Class and Wizards of Waverly Place, and her film work includes You starring Melora Hardin and Joely Fisher.

Aisha Dee (Mackenzie) has trained since a very young age in voice and all styles of dance, including Jazz, Tap and Classical Ballet. In recent years she has continued her dance training at Industry of Dance, where she worked with some of Australia's best practitioners. She furthered her studies at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney.

After beginning her career in commercials, Dee was cast in the hugely popular international series The Saddle Club, a co-production between Australia's Crawford Productions and Canada's Protocol Entertainment. She then went on to do Skyrunners, which was shot on location in New Zealand. In 2009, Dee appeared in Dead Gorgeous, and also will be seen in TERRA NOVA.

Upon completing his graduate degree at the University of Alabama/Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Eric Sheffer Stevens (Matt) pursued a career in theater, starring in the world premiere of Keith Reddin's play "Synergy" at the Alley Theatre in Houston.

Sheffer Stevens' work on television first earned critical acclaim on As the World Turns in which he played neurosurgeon "Dr. Reid Oliver." The character's controversial storyline immediately became a fan favorite and garnered Sheffer Stevens widespread recognition. His other recent projects include Julie & Julia and guest spots on The Big C, Body of Proof and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

Kevin Rahm (Jack) was most recently seen as a series regular on Desperate Housewives and as a recurring character on Mad Men. His other TV credits include The Mentalist, Three Rivers, CSI: Miami, Without a Trace, CSI: NY, Grey's Anatomy, Friends, Ally McBeal, Jesse, Everything's Relative, and Judging Amy. He has appeared in the films Route 30, Alfie, Nurse Betty and several other independents.

Chad L. Coleman (Gary) won critical acclaim for his portrayal of "Dennis ‘Cutty' Wise" on the Peabody Award-winning drama series The Wire. His other television credits include Lie to Me, The Good Wife, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, New Amsterdam, The Forgotten, CSI: Miami, Life on Mars, Numb3rs, Hack, Third Watch, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order and New York Undercover.

Coleman's film credits include Horrible Bosses, Green Hornet, The Guilded Six Bits, Brother to Brother and Carlito's Way: Rise to Power. He will next be seen in the independent features Confessions of a Call Girl and Life, Love & Soul.

Pilot Plot:

"Pilot" - After Sophie (Kristi Lauren) and MacKenzie (Aisha Dee) lock a student in the school bathroom, Annie (Jaime Pressly) and Nikki (Katie Finneran) must punish their daughters by not allowing them to attend the school dance. On the night of the dance, the mothers try to hold firm on their decision, despite the girls’ best efforts to derail their punishments, while the fathers make the situation worse.

"Teenage Family Night" - In an effort to reconnect with the girls, Annie reinstates an old tradition of "Family Night," even though the adults are all now divorced. Of course, nothing seems to go right. The girls try to escape, Nikki becomes outraged when she learns that Gary (Chad L. Coleman) is dating someone new and Annie is thrown when Jack (Kevin Rahm) shows up with a hot date.

Analysis:

In the "Pilot" episode, Annie and Nikki are talking about two people and in walk their daughters. Annie says they are mean to them and Nikki says she hates them. Annie makes some french toast for Sophie and asks her to change her clothes to something more appropriate. Nikki tells Gary that he wants Mackenzie to go to the dance in a limo. The next day the moms go to the school to talk to the principal Ms. Diego. They learn that the girls locked Gerard Thompson, a student in a wheelchair, in the girls' bathroom. Annie talks to her ex-husband Matt about Sophie. His brother Jack also joins the conversation. Later that night at Nikki's house, the moms and daughters argue for several hours. Gary and Matt come to the house after receiving some texts. Jack gets some texts from Nikki and brings her some pies. Sophie apologizes to Annie and they leave to go home. After Annie discovers that Nikki allowed Mackenzie to go to the dance, she decdies to let Sohpie go as well. When they discover who Gerard Thompson really is, they decide to punish the girls at the dance.

In the second episode "Teenage Faily Night," Nikki looks at Mackenzie's Facebook page and talks to Annie who also finds Sophie's account. At the coffee shop, the adults talk about their daughters. Annie suggests they have a Family Night to try to reconnect with their daughters. She invites Jack to the night as well. Annie confiscates their cellphones in a bowl. Nikki becomes upset when she learns that Gary is dating again. The daughters are bored and manage to escape, but Annie brings them back to the house. A bass player for Matt's band arrives to audition. Jack shows up with his hot date Dominque. When she thinks she's alone in the kitchen with Nikki, she expresses that she has feelings for Jack.

Fox hasn't had many multi-camera sitcoms on their lineup in recent years, so it's nice to see them give another one a try. This is pretty typical sitcom fare. The pilot is fast-paced with many different scenes and one liners. There are references to Full House, Little House on the Prairie and Dirty Dancing. Wendy McClendon-Covey is funny in her few scenes as Principal Diego. I believe Rosa Blasi played the role in the original pilot, but they reshot it. The final scene at the dance is probably the highlight of the episode.

It can be unusual when the pilot episode is better than the second episode, but I think that's the case here. The second episode focuses more on the adults, with the daughters only minimally involved. There are just fewer laughs. It's a bit more serious of an episode in tone. I think they need to have the right balance of scenes with the parents and daughters like in the pilot. The show could also benefit by having some flashback scenes with Pressly and Finneran. They have some guest stars lined up for future episodes that should be interesting. Guest stars will include Ryan McPartlin, Keegan Allen and Mark Consuelos in a recurring role as teacher-turned crush interest for Annie.

Conclusion:

It has been a banner year for new comedies on the broadcast networks. While I Hate My Teenage Daughter is enjoyable enough, it's really not at the same level quality wise as New Girl, 2 Broke Girls or Suburgatory. The comparison for this new show is Last Man Standing. Both of these shows are watchable, but they both have some room to grow after the first few episodes. There just really isn't much unique about it that really hasn't been done before and some of the jokes seem a bit predictable and forced. This show does have one big thing going for it with Jaime Pressly as the main star. It's a joy to see her on another comedy. She was so funny on My Name Is Earl and won an Emmy for her role. Pressly and Finneran appear to have some good comedic chemistry and have fun here. The rest of the supporting cast aren't really household names. I wasn't very familiar with them, but they do a decent enough job. Kevin Rahm is hilarious as Lee on Desperate Housewives, but he's really not given much to do here and his character isn't nearly as funny.

I Hate My Teenage Daughter has a comfortable timeslot following The X Factor. It should be receive some good sampling the first few weeks. I don't think it will be a breakout or critical hit, but it should generate some respectable ratings. Fox has had mostly single-camera and animated comedies in recent years, so it's nice to see them give a chance to a traditional multi-camera sitcom. This show should be relatable to both parents and teenagers and provide some good laughs. If you are a fan of Jaime Pressly, you will definitely want to check this one out. This is clearly a vehicle for her, since she's in almost every scene.

Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse premiered on Friday (Nov. 25) and drew 3.4 million viewers for its launch on TBS. The original sitcom (well this time a dramedy) is the latest from writer-director-producer Tyler Perry and is based on his Why Did I Get Married? movies. The 10 p.m. premiere of Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse averaged more than 3.3 million viewers, with a demo delivery of 1.8 million adults 18-49. The 10:30 p.m. episode grew to more than 3.4 million viewers, while holding firm with 1.8 million adults 18-49. The series has a 10 episode order, but like the other Tyler Perry series, if it does well they will order a bulk of episodes. The season finale is scheduled for Friday, December 23.
Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse centers on Angela Williams (Tasha Smith), the owner of a successful beauty salon, and her husband of 13 years, Marcus (Michael Jai White). Marcus is a former professional football player who has recently partnered with Richard Ellington (Kent Faulcon) and Joseph Jetson (Jason Olive) on a new sports news program called C-Sports Now. Marcus’s business relationship with Richard and Joseph is complicated, however, by the fact that Richard is dating Keisha (Kiki Haynes), Marcus’s ex-girlfriend and the mother of his teenage daughter. In addition, Joseph’s girlfriend, successful real estate agent Leslie (Crystle Stewart), is Angela’s best friend, which sometimes makes it difficult for the couples to keep their business and private lives from mingling.
Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse is produced by Tyler Perry Studios and distributed by Debmar-Mercury. The series airs Friday nights at 10:00pm & 10:30pm on TBS following a two-hour block of House of Payne.

Effective next Wednesday (Oct. 19), new episodes of the Tyler Perry sitcoms will move from Wednesday to Friday nights. A block of Family Guy will now air Wednesdays in primetime from 8-10pm, with an hour of The Big Bang Theory following from 10-11pm. In fact, from Mon-Thurs, TBS will now only showcase these two comedies in primetime. TBS has been promoting during the MLB Playoffs that The Big Bang Theory starts on TBS on Oct. 18, but it actually started last month. Unless they meant the new Tues-Thurs schedule. The Big Bang Theory will air Tuesdays 8-11pm, Wednesdays 10-11pm, and Thursdays 9-11pm. The sitcom will still get Saturday plays as well airing 6-8pm. As for the Tyler Perry comedies, Meet the Browns will air in primetime on Friday nights from 8-9pm. Then from 9-10pm, it is an hour of House of Payne. Repeats of these series will continue to air weekday mornings from 9:30am-11:30am, with two episodes of each comedy.
TBS has also scheduled new Tyler Perry series For Better Or Worse on Friday nights starting Friday, Nov. 25 (Black Friday) at 9:00pm & 9:30pm, as House of Payne will shift to 8-9pm, as Meet the Browns takes a bit of a break. This series is also a half-hour series, but it will be more of a dramedy, as we announced. TBS has ordered a half-hour comedy pilot titled Sullivan and Son, starring popular comedian Steve Byrne and executive-produced by Vince Vaughn (The Break-Up)and Peter Billingsley (Iron Man). The project comes to TBS from Vaughn's Wild West Picture Show Productions and Warner Horizon Television. The pilot is being written by Byrne and executive producer/showrunner Rob Long (Cheers). Set to begin shooting later this year, Sullivan and Son takes place in a popular and legendary neighborhood bar in a working-class neighborhood in Pittsburgh, Penn. Filled with locals and regulars, Sullivan & Son is the unofficial "town hall" to the neighborhood.
In addition to TBS's pilot order for Sullivan and Son, the network recently announced it is moving forward on an untitled half-hour comedy pilot that centers on a family man who quits his day job and returns to the neighborhood where he grew up. There, he reunites with his former best friend. The multi-camera sitcom from Conaco and Warner Horizon Television is being executive-produced by David Kissinger, Conan O'Brien and Jeff Ross, along with the pilot's writers, Ben Wexler, Ross Novie and Jay Rondot. Wexler will also serve as the showrunner for the untitled pilot. TBS has also greenlit a pilot for Men at Work, an ensemble, multi-camera comedy about a recently dumped man whose three best friends help him reinvent his manhood. The project comes to TBS from Sony Pictures Television and executive producers/writers Breckin Meyer and Jamie Tarses. We will let you know if these three multi-camera sitcom pilots make it to a series order, so stay tuned.

The classic sitcom I Love Lucy is turning 60 on Saturday (Oct. 15)! In a one of a kind exhibit, TV Guide Magazine is partnering with The Paley Center for Media to present Loving Lucy, a celebration of 60 years of I Love Lucy and Lucille Ball's Centennial until November 27, 2011 in New York City. It started on Sept. 28. TV Guide Magazine documented Lucille Ball's life in Hollywood like no other magazine, featuring her on more covers than any other star in the magazine's history. Now, in partnership with The Paley Center, they have developed a multi-dimensional exhibit to celebrate the TV icon.
