SitcomsOnline Digest: Only Murders in the Building Renewed for Fifth Season; Plex Adds Knots Landing and More
Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! Depending upon where you are, you may be seeing a blast of fall weather this weekend, and it's just in time for the beginnings of the new TV fall season! We have news of a renewal of a Hulu series, some changes with The Tonight Show, and more. Let's get going!
HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
- Only Murders in the Building has been renewed for a fifth season. (Deadline)
- You can now stream the entire series of Knots Landing, Falcon Crest, and more on Plex. (TVLine)
- The reboot of One Day at a Time ended with unproduced scripts, but a table read of those scripts will be part of an upcoming charity event. (Deadline)
- The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was the last late night talk show to run new episodes five day a week, but that's about to change in the new season, as new episodes will no longer air on Friday. (Hollywood Reporter)
- Just as was the case in 2020 (though for somewhat different COVID related reasons then), South Park will not have new episodes for the presidential election season as had been tradition in the past, and will not return until 2025. (Variety)
- Modern Family is coming to Nick at Nite on September 19, though it appears that some of the rumors that it was being pulled from broadcast syndication this month (which is been happening with an unusually high number of long-running broadcast network stalwarts this season) may not be true. (SitcomsOnline)
WEEKLY PLANNER (SEPTEMBER 7 - SEPTEMBER 13)
- We previously mentioned that Plex has added Growing Pains and The Drew Carey Show to their free offerings, but as we stated today, they seem to be adding even more content from the Warner library, including the complete series of Perfect Strangers, Knots Landing, Sisters, and Falcon Crest... and we hope that more is on the way!
- Catchy Comedy has a binge of Night Court this weekend.
- A new season of Wheel of Fortune arrives on Monday, and it'll have something that it hasn't had in four decades: a new host, Ryan Seacrest.
