Hulu's Child Stars Documentary; Keke Palmer Heads to The 'Burbs for Peacock

Hulu has debuted the official trailer and key art for upcoming documentary Child Star. The Demi Lovato-directed doc will debut on Hulu on September 17, 2024. Child Star explores the highs and lows of growing up in the spotlight through the lens of some of the world's most well-known former child stars. Through celebrity interviews, verite scenes, and archival footage, this film deconstructs the stages of earlier stardom and looks at the entertainment system over the last century. Lovato sits down with iconic former child stars such as Drew Barrymore, Kenan Thompson, Christina Ricci, Raven-SymonĂ©, JoJo Siwa, Alyson Stoner, and more, to reflect on their personal experiences working in the entertainment industry in never-before-heard stories. Together they take a look at the next generation of child actors and how to move forward in an ever-changing landscape. The film will mark Demi Lovato’s directorial debut with Nicola Marsh co-directing with OBB Pictures, SB Films, and DLG are producing.
Child Star is directed by Demi Lovato and Nicola Marsh. The film is produced by OBB’s Michael D. Ratner, Scott Ratner, Miranda Sherman, Kfir Goldberg and Demi Lovato. It’s executive produced by Nicola B. Marsh, SB’s Scooter Braun, Scott Manson, Jen McDaniels, and James Shin. Glenn Stickley serves as co-executive producer.
Peacock has given a straight-to-series order to The 'Burbs, a new series adaptation of the 1989 film of the same name. Celeste Hughey (Palm Royale, Dead to Me) will write and executive produce the series starring Emmy(R) Award winner Keke Palmer (Nope, Password), who will also executive produce. Seth MacFarlane (Ted), Erica Huggins and Aimee Carlson for Fuzzy Door will executive produce alongside Brian Grazer (Empire, Arrested Development), Kristen Zolner and Natalie Berkus for Imagine Entertainment. Dana Olsen, the writer of the 1989 film, will serve as co-executive producer on the series. UCP (Suits, Ted), a
division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio behind the series.
The series adaptation is the latest project from Fuzzy Door under its overall television deal with UCP. The series will film in Los Angeles at the same location as the original 1989 film, the backlot of Universal Studios Hollywood. From Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment, The 'Burbs (1989) was a horror-comedy produced by Brian Grazer and starring Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher. Set in present-day suburbia, The 'Burbs follows a young couple returning to the husband's childhood home. Their world is upended when new neighbors move in next door, bringing old secrets of the cul-de-sac to light, and new deadly threats shatter the illusion of their quiet little neighborhood.
