26th Annual Critics Choice Awards Winners; Supergirl Pinch Hits for Superman & Lois on The CW
Last night, the Critics Choice Association (CCA) announced the winners of the 26th Annual Critics Choice Awards LIVE on The CW during an in-person/virtual hybrid ceremony hosted for the third time by acclaimed film, television, and stage star Taye Diggs. In the series categories, The Crown took four categories, the most of the night, winning Best Drama Series, Best Actor in a Drama Series for Josh O'Connor, Best Actress in a Drama Series for Emma Corrin, and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Gillian Anderson. In the comedy genre, Ted Lasso won all three categories for which it was nominated: Best Comedy Series, Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Jason Sudeikis, and Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Hannah Waddingham. The Queen's Gambit took the prize for Best Limited Series, and its leading lady Anya Taylor-Joy won Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television. The race for "Best Comedy Special," which was dominated entirely by Netflix nominees, resulted in a tie between Jerry Seinfeld: 23 Hours to Kill and Michelle Buteau: Welcome to Buteaupia.
The CW has to make a schedule change due to COVID19. The CW's Tuesday will become even more superpowered when Superman & Lois gets a helping hand from their Kryptonian cousin this spring as Supergirl soars onto action, returning to The CW's schedule to kick off the first part of her sixth and final season on Tuesday, March 30 at 9:00pm ET/PT. The recently renewed freshman hit Superman & Lois will go on a brief hiatus from The CW schedule due to a COVID-related production interruption earlier this season. Superman & Lois will return to complete its first season on Tuesday, May 18 at 9:00pm ET/PT, and Supergirl will complete her final season later this summer. 7 episodes of Supergirl will air to pinch-hit, as the remaining 13 episodes will air sometime in the summer, with a night and time still to be announced. Superman & Lois has 15 total episodes, and thru March 23 five episodes will have aired. So when the series returns on May 18 it will return for the first of ten all-new episodes.
As a result of the schedule change, the special PEOPLE Presents: Harry & Meghan's American Dream will now air Thursday, March 25 at 8:00pm ET/PT. The special follows the lives of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle who stunned the world by existing royal life. One year later, they are very much living the American dream with multimillion-dollar streaming deals and a California mansion to call home with two-year old Archie. But a personal tragedy and ongoing tensions with brother Prince William and Kate have at times clouded their first year of freedom. This one-hour special will trace Harry and Meghan's journey from royalty to celebrity.
