SitcomsOnline Digest: Neil Flynn Cast in NBC Sitcom Pilot; Jimmy Fallon and Will Smith Remix Sitcom Theme Song Classics

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! We're getting even more casting news about potential new pilots this week, we're preparing for a busy week of new sitcoms (and of course, one big revival) on ABC, and more. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
  • Neil Flynn has had a role in a sitcom since he first appeared on Scrubs in 2001, and now with his current series, The Middle, coming to an end, he may be able to extend his sitcom life even more as he has been cast in a new pilot for NBC. (AV Club)
  • Jimmy Fallon and Will Smith had a little fun this week doing a remix of some of the more popular sitcom theme songs throughout history (and no, Janet Hubert hasn't gone on social media to make a nasty comment about him as she often does any time Will Smith gets attention for anything... at least not yet). (Deadline)
  • Meanwhile, Jimmy Kimmel had Roseanne on his show this week, and they had a few interesting exchanges regarding politics. (US Weekly)
  • Jerry O'Connell will be playing Sheldon's brother in the season finale of The Big Bang Theory. (Entertainment Weekly)
  • The Indy 500 has always aired on ABC, but that will change in 2019, as it moves to NBC. (CNN Money)
  • Dushon Monique Brown, who has played Connie on the NBC series Chicago Fire since it debuted, has unexpectedly died at age 49. (Time)
  • Younger will return to TV Land for a fifth season in June. (SitcomsOnline

  • One Day at a Time - Season Two (DVD, $22.97): Shout! Factory brings the second season of this classic series to DVD in this release.
  • Peyton Place - Part Three (DVD, $34.99): This series appeared to be long abandoned for DVD for almost a decade, but now Shout! Factory is returning with a new release of 33 additional episodes.

WEEKLY PLANNER (MARCH 17 - MARCH 23)
  • We've been hearing about it for a long time, and on Tuesday night, the revival of Roseanne will debut on ABC.
  • Roseanne isn't the only thing that ABC has in store for Tuesday night, as they will also be debuting their new sitcom Splitting Up Together, starring Jenna Fischer and Oliver Hudson.
  • ABC has yet another new sitcom set to debut on Wednesday night, with Alex, Inc., starring Zach Braff.
  • Sunday night brings the return of Silicon Valley to HBO, along with the debut of a new series, Barry, starring Bill Hader.
  • Of course, a weekend just isn't the weekend without a binge on Decades, and this weekend, it is all Laverne & Shirley.
