SitcomsOnline Digest: Dax Shepard Cast in Recurring Role on The Ranch; Jake McDorman Joins Murphy Brown Revival

  • With Danny Masterson fired from the Netflix sitcom The Ranch, Dax Shepard has been cast in a recurring role to fill in, at least for the time being. (Entertainment Weekly)
  • Jake McDorman has been cast as the title character's son Avery in the Murphy Brown revival. (Deadline)
  • The Netflix reboot of One Day at a Time is on the verge of cancellation, and it seems that a lot of people aren't happy about that. (Vulture)
  • Beverly Hills, 90210 will never go away, and now, a revival with Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth is up for consideration. (Hollywood Reporter)
  • At the same time students walked out of class on Wednesday, every Viacom cable network also went dark for 17 minutes in solidarity, a somewhat surprising move for cable networks such as CMT. (Vox)
  • Get ready to open more suitcases, as CNBC is bringing in new episodes of Deal or No Deal with Howie Mandel returning as host. (Hollywood Reporter)
  • Not to be outdone by other religions, the Church of Scientology has launched a new 24 hour network, although you won't find it on your standard TV lineup unless you have DirecTV. (Deadline)

  • Fox hasn't aired new episodes of any of their Sunday night animated series in over two months, but they'll all be new again on Sunday, in addition to a new episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine as it moves to Sunday nights.
  • Netflix debuts a new teen oriented comedy, Alexa and Katie, on Friday.
