Roseanne Opens Big on ABC, Encore Airs Sunday; John Mulaney Gets Netflix Special
Towering over NBC's The Voice and CBS' NCIS in the 8:00-9:00 p.m. hour to rank as Tuesday's No. 1 TV show, ABC's 1-hour premiere of Roseanne opened with an average audience of 18.44 million viewers and a 5.2/21 in Adults 18-49, building from its first half-hour to its second half-hour. Roseanne scored Tuesday's top-rated entertainment telecast in 6 years with young adults – since 2/28/12. Roseanne opened with TV's highest Adult 18-49 rating for any comedy telecast on any night in 3 1/2 years – since CBS' The Big Bang Theory season opener on 9/22/14. Roseanne delivered ABC’s best results in the 1-hour time period since November 2006 in viewers and since November 2009 in young adults – since 11/14/06 and 11/3/09, respectively. Roseanne's return built on its May 1997 finale telecast 21 years ago by 11% in Total Viewers (18.44 million vs. 16.6 million on 5/20/97), outdrawing its final 12 telecasts that season.
In viewers and young adults, Roseanne stands as the season's strongest premiere as well as the No. 1 regularly scheduled scripted telecast this season. ABC's top-rated Roseanne rebroadcasts its one-hour season premiere, Sunday, April 1 (no foolin'!) from 7:00-8:00 p.m. EDT on The ABC Television Network, streaming and on demand.
Emmy Award-winning writer, stand-up and performer John Mulaney will debut a new Netflix original stand-up special John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City, globally on May 1, 2018.
