Freeform Gets First Christmas Film; truTV Sitcom to Return for 2nd Season
Freeform (formerly ABC Family), Disney's young adult television and streaming network, in association with Sony Pictures Television, announced that it has started production on their first original Christmas movie, Angry Angel, in Toronto. From Golden Globe-nominated director and writer Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends with Benefits), the two-hour special holiday feature stars Jason Biggs (Orange Is the New Black), Brenda Song (Pure Genius), Ricky Mabe (Preacher), Andrew Bachelor (Meet the Blacks) and Andy Favreau (Aquarius). Set in New York City, Angry Angel follows a young woman turned angel, Allison Pyke (played by Song), who is stuck on Earth and can't seem to ring the right bells in order to pass through those pearly gates into heaven. When the love of her life, Patrick (played by Mabe), shows up in New York City, it complicates Pyke's journey as well as frustrates her angel mentor Jason Biggs (played by Biggs). The not-so-merry situation also turns into an unexpected love triangle with her friend with sometimes benefits, Barker (played by Favreau).
The film will be a part of Freeform's annual "Countdown to 25 Days of Christmas," which begins on Saturday, November 18. The annual countdown to the fan favorite "25 Days of Christmas" will feature titles that will get everyone in the Christmas spirit, including: Elf, Richie Rich's Christmas Wish, Home Alone and many more. The full slate for "Countdown to 25 Days of Christmas" and "25 Days of Christmas" will be announced at a later date.
Turner's truTV announced a second season greenlight for its scripted comedy, I'm Sorry which has emerged as the summer's breakout new comedy series and fastest growing comedy of 2017. Created by and starring Andrea Savage, the series has been a hit, delivering consistent ratings growth and generating strong social buzz and high praise from press and fans alike. I'm Sorry follows seemingly confident, together comedy writer, wife and mom Andrea (played by Savage), who comically exposes her inner immaturity and neuroses through unexpected life situations, along with her more straitlaced husband Mike (Tom Everett Scott), and their inquisitive daughter Amelia (Olive Petrucci). Season two of the half-hour comedy will return to truTV in 2018.
Since its debut on July 12, I'm Sorry has been a huge success for truTV. Called "razor-sharp" by The New York Times, "funny and grounded" by the Los Angeles Times, and "one of the year's best new comedies" by IndieWire, the series has demonstrated consistent growth each week, growing its audience 32% since its premiere week and delivering an average of 454,000 total viewers in P2+ and 306,000 viewers in A18-49 in Live +3 each week. New episodes debut Wednesdays at 10pm ET/PT on truTV and the season one finale is set for Wednesday, September 6. truTV will air a season one catch-up marathon on Monday, September 4 beginning at 2pm ET/PT - and fans can catch up anytime on VOD and the Watch truTV app.
