SitcomsOnline Digest: Netflix Renews The Ranch for a Fourth Season; More Step by Step Coming to DVD

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! Halloween is past us, so that means we're officially into sweeps month (which may not be quite the huge deal it used to be in the streaming media era, but it hasn't been totally diminished) and before you know it, we'll be talking about Christmas programming and marathons. In fact, Hallmark Channel is already there! Today, we've got news about the renewal of a Netflix series, more Step by Step on DVD (side note: DVD releases have slowed down so much this year that this appears to be the only older sitcom that will be released on DVD for all of November and December, months that used to be very busy), and more. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
  • Netflix is mostly associated with binge watching, but lately they've been on a binge cancellation spree. However, The Ranch is not being cancelled, and has been renewed for a fourth season. (Hollywood Reporter)
  • There has been talk of Alex Trebek retiring from Jeopardy! for over a decade, but it isn't happening for at least another four years, and Pat Sajak and Vanna White will remain on Wheel of Fortune at least until then as well. (Vulture)
  • Jimmy Kimmel Live! is generally not a live show, despite the title, but it will be on Tuesday, as the show joins the competition to go live for election night. (Deadline)
  • The series Alone Together has been cancelled by Freeform. (Variety)
  • There's no pretending that it isn't that time of the year: MeTV will be celebrating Christmas every Sunday starting November 11. (SitcomsOnline)
