SitcomsOnline Digest: Family Guy Specials Coming to Hulu; Jimmy Kimmel Rooting for Emmy for Stephen Colbert
Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! We have lots of news about late night TV, animated series, and more. Let's get going!
HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
- It isn't leaving Fox, as many speculated when Hulu aired their first Family Guy specials, but two more are coming in upcoming months. (Variety)
- Jimmy Kimmel would rather see Stephen Colbert get an Emmy than himself, and has started a campaign for such. (Variety)
- Meanwhile, Seth Meyers, whom we can probably assume will never get the chance to host The Tonight Show as one would have assumed when he initially took over a decade ago, is concerned that his show could be canceled at any time. (Deadline)
- In the ongoing saga of "streaming actually isn't forever," HBO Max has removed more Cartoon Network library series. (Deadline)
- The Flintstones turns 65 years old at the end of this month, and MeTV Toons is here to celebrate it. (Cartoon Brew)
- And then there were fewer: Spectrum, the cable company formed by the merger of Charter and Time Warner Cable (which had also been built from many, many smaller cable companies), is moving ahead in merging with Cox. (Deadline)
- The creators of South Park are putting Paramount (and incoming parent company Skydance) in a bit of a conundrum, as the show continues to bite the hand the feeds it (Paramount), it is scoring the highest ratings it has seen since 1999. (Deadline)
- The Jeffersons is about to get a new home on cable. (SitcomsOnline)
- After a 15 year "wait" (which wasn't really a wait, because we never expected it was returning), a new season of King of the Hill arrives Monday on Hulu.
- Catchy Comedy has a binge of Sanford & Son and The Royal Family (featuring all but one episode of The Royal Family) tomorrow.
- Appropriately, a new season of Wednesday comes to Netflix on Wednesday.
- It probably shouldn't even be a big deal when a new episode of a current season show airs, but after already a week off following a two year hiatus, South Park is back for a new episode on Wednesday.

SitcomsOnline Digest: Futurama Gets New Season; Early Edition Reboot Moves Forward at CBS
Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! This week, we're hearing of an animated adult comedy making a return, a reboot of the game show Lingo, and more. Let's get going!
HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
- Futurama has been revived/renewed for a new season on Hulu, but the voice of Bender appears to be missing (unless something changes, anyway). (Deadline)
- Fox has a meteorologist comedy (it's a new idea at least) called Cindy Snow, which is not a spinoff of Three's Company. (Deadline)
- Early Edition is a step closer to making a return at CBS, with a female in the lead role. (Variety)
- With the sudden burst in popularity of the game Wordle, CBS has decided to give the game show Lingo a reboot, with RuPaul as host. (Hollywood Reporter)
- It seems that toxic workplaces have been a theme among daytime talk shows, and now Dr. Phil is the one being accused. (Deadline)
- Comedy Central has acquired the rights to Brooklyn Nine-Nine. (SitcomsOnline)

SitcomsOnline Digest: ABC Orders Pair of Comedy Pilots; NBC Cancels Hair Musical
- ABC has ordered a pair of comedy pilots, including one starring Katey Sagal. (Variety)
- Modern Family is coming to an end after next season, which may not seem like a big deal since it isn't the show that people talk about anymore, but the end of this series (along with that of The Big Bang Theory of this season) signals the end of an era where broadcast network sitcoms were a dominant force. (Fortune)
- Fox recently aired a musical version of Rent, and it seems that in light of the disappointing ratings of that musical, NBC has cancelled their planned May 19 musical version of Hair. (Business Insider)
- The proposed reboot of Bewitched at ABC won't be coming in the fall, but the idea isn't completely dead just yet. (Variety)
- A pair of musical episodes is in the works for American Housewife. (Deadline)
- Neither The Simpsons (which was legitimately in danger with the Disney acquisition of the production company) nor Mom are going anywhere anytime soon.. (SitcomsOnline)
HOME MEDIA RELEASES (FEBRUARY 12)

- Step by Step - The Complete Fourth Season (DVD, $29.99): We've been in a major drought for TV series on DVD (and sadly, it likely won't improve as many series have been completely released and streaming media has cannibalized DVD), but Warner Archive is still throwing us some bones, including the continuation of this TGIF classic on DVD.
WEEKLY PLANNER (FEBRUARY 9 - FEBRUARY 15)
- Decades has a very rare treat for viewers on their weekly Binge this weekend, as they will be airing a marathon of Redd Foxx's last sitcom, The Royal Family from 1 PM today through 7 AM tomorrow morning, followed by a Binge of The Facts of Life all day Sunday.
