SitcomsOnline Digest: Netflix Cancels Blockbuster; NBC to Keep 10 PM Hour for Next Season
Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! It's almost Christmas, and as always, that means it is a very light week of news, but we're hearing about the cancellation of a Netflix comedy, the news that NBC's 10 PM hour is saved (for now), and more. Let's get going!

- Just like the video store itself, Netflix has cancelled Blockbuster after one season. (Vulture)
- NBC isn't abandoning the 10 PM hour as had been originally considered, at least not for next season. (Deadline)
- PBS stations throughout the country are now streaming online, via Local Now. (Variety)
- Quantum Leap is getting a second season on NBC. (Deadline)
- Rewind TV has a new lineup in January, which includes the addition of two new shows to the lineup. (SitcomsOnline)
- Meanwhile, the MeTV January lineup is out as well, though there aren't really any significant changes. (SitcomsOnline)

SitcomsOnline Digest: Amazon Buys MGM; This Is Us Star Cast in ABC Comedy Pilot

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
- Amazon has purchased MGM, or so we think, as previous "sales" of MGM to Turner in the 80s and Sony in 2006 have turned out to not be what they seem. (NPR)
- With the NBC series This Is Us coming to an end, cast members are in high demand for other new series, and this week we're hearing about Chris Sullivan being cast in a pilot for ABC. (Deadline)
- Although a Quantum Leap reboot is in the works for Peacock with a whole new cast, Scott Bakula is looking to return to the NBC primetime lineup as star and executive producer in a series in which he will be playing a much different role. (TVLine)
- With all of the reboots that are in the works (including many that don't quite make it to TV), it's easy to forget what is being worked on, but there is an Early Edition reboot in the works and it now has an actress attached to the starring role. (Deadline)
- The executive producer of Dancing with the Stars is out, and former host Tom Bergeron (who was fired by the same executive producer) had something to say about it. (Deadline)
- In maybe one of the most unsurprising renewals of the season, ABC has renewed Abbott Elementary for a second season. (SitcomsOnline)

- Although it isn't a rare thing for them to do, E! is having a Saved by the Bell marathon this weekend.

- Fox has a meteorologist comedy (it's a new idea at least) called Cindy Snow, which is not a spinoff of Three's Company. (Deadline)
- Early Edition is a step closer to making a return at CBS, with a female in the lead role. (Variety)
- With the sudden burst in popularity of the game Wordle, CBS has decided to give the game show Lingo a reboot, with RuPaul as host. (Hollywood Reporter)
- It seems that toxic workplaces have been a theme among daytime talk shows, and now Dr. Phil is the one being accused. (Deadline)
- Comedy Central has acquired the rights to Brooklyn Nine-Nine. (SitcomsOnline)
