Pop Slates '90s Centric Comedies Starting April 12; Amazon Brings Back Mozart and Final Season of Red Oaks

Hollywood Darlings

Wednesday nights will soon be all that and a bag of chips as Pop gears up to debut two new original comedies Hollywood Darlings and Return of the Mac (formerly The Joey Mac Project) on April 12. The back-to-back television premieres will reunite fans with their favorite stars from the '90s, including Jodie Sweetin (Full House), Beverley Mitchell (7th Heaven) and Christine Lakin (Step by Step) in Hollywood Darlings at 8:00 PM, ET/PT, followed by Joey McIntyre in the CBS Television Studios scripted comedy Return of the Mac at 8:30 PM, ET/PT. A bevy of guest stars in both series will showcase the ultimate line-up of '90s sitcom stars, boy band artists and cultural icons. Hollywood Darlings will feature cameos from Soleil Moon Frye (Punky Brewster), Andrew Keegan (10 Things I Hate About You), Tamera Mowry (Sister, Sister), Lance Bass (NSYNC), Andrea Barber (Full House), Nicholle Tom (The Nanny), Heather Tom (Y&R), Patrick Duffy (Dallas, Step by Step), Staci Keanan (Step by Step) and Wanya Morris (Boyz II Men). Hollywood Darlings turns the camera on real-life friends who are bonded by a sisterhood that only they can share as former child stars who grew up in the '90s limelight - Jodie Sweetin, Christine Lakin and Beverley Mitchell. In this improvised comedy, the three actresses play exaggerated versions of themselves in their current Hollywood lives. With the support of one another, this girl squad can take on anything when it comes to parenting, marriage, friendship and revived careers in Hollywood.

Return of the Mac will feature series stars and executive producers Donnie Wahlberg (New Kids on the Block, Blue Bloods) and Jenny McCarthy (Singled Out), as well as guest appearances by Joey Lawrence (Melissa and Joey, Blossom), Joey Fatone (*NSYNC), Chris Kirkpatrick (*NSYNC), January Jones (Mad Men), Jack Osbourne (The Osbournes), Aisha Tyler (The Talk, Ghost Whisperer), David Koechner (Anchorman), and Gilles Marini (Sex and the City). Return of the Mac is a scripted comedy starring boy band heartthrob Joey McIntyre as a version of himself alongside his real-life family - wife Barrett and their three children, Griffin (8), Rhys (6) and Kira (5). As he embarks on a hilarious quest to be taken seriously as a legit actor, Joey is thrown into the reluctant role of a talk show host at a fledgling cable network called The Comfy Channel. As Joey starts to navigate the talk show circuit, he is joined by his often misguided manager and team played by a hysterical cast, including Adam Ray, Jamie Denbo, Katie Wee, Punam Patel and Jordan Black.

Mozart in the Jungle

Amazon Studios announced it has green lit a fourth season of the Golden Globe award-winning comedy series Mozart in the Jungle, and a final, third season of the hit comedy series Red Oaks. Both are scheduled to premiere later this year on Prime Video in the US and UK, and additional territories in the future. Based on the critically acclaimed memoir Mozart in the Jungle: Sex, Drugs & Classical Music by Blair Tindall, Mozart in the Jungle draws back the curtain at the New York Symphony, where artistic dedication and creativity collide with mind games, politicking and survival instincts. Starring Gael GarcĂa Bernal (Neruda), and Lola Kirke (American Made), Mozart in the Jungle will begin production later this year and will continue the story of the talented musicians who perform and live with passion under the baton of its spirited conductor, best known simply as Rodrigo. Along with Bernal and Kirke, Mozart in the Jungle also stars Saffron Burrows (Night of the Lotus), Malcolm McDowell (American Satan), Bernadette Peters (Smash), and Hannah Dunne (Caring).

Red Oaks

Set in the 1980s, Red Oaks explores the comic misadventures of the misfit staffers and clueless members of a country club in suburban New Jersey. Starring Craig Roberts (Submarine: The Fundamentals of Caregiving), and Paul Reiser (Mad About You), Red Oaks will begin production later this year on its third and final season, concluding the stories of aspiring young filmmaker David Meyers and the colorful characters he's met on his journey to adulthood. Starring alongside Roberts and Reiser is a talented ensemble cast including Richard Kind (Inside Out), Jennifer Grey (Dirty Dancing), Alexandra Socha (Cut Shoot Kill), Oliver Cooper (Office Christmas Party), Ennis Esmer (Blindspot), Gina Gershon (Staten Island Summer) and Alexandra Turschen (Boy Meets Girl).

TV Land Announces Premiere Date for Younger; Amazon Orders Comedy and Drama for Full Seasons

Younger

Younger, TV Land's new single camera comedy from prolific television creator Darren Star (Sex and The City, Beverly Hills 90210) will premiere Tuesday, January 13 at 10pm ET/PT. The new comedy stars Tony® Award-winning Sutton Foster (Bunheads), Hilary Duff (Lizzie McGuire), Debi Mazar (Entourage), Miriam Shor (GCB) and Nico Tortorella (The Following) and has begun filming in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Star has tapped his friend and renowned stylist, Patricia Field, who was behind the trend-setting looks on Sex and the City, to be lead costume designer on Younger. Star will executive produce the series. Younger will join two other brand new single-camera comedies in 2015, as we announced.

The comedy follows 40-year old Liza (Foster), a suddenly single mother who tries to get back into the working world, only to find it's nearly impossible to start at the bottom at her age. When a chance encounter with the sexy Josh (Tortorella), a young tattoo artist, convinces her she looks younger than she is, Liza tries to pass herself off as 26 – with the help of a makeover, courtesy of her best friend Maggie (Mazar). Armed with new confidence, she lands a job as an assistant to the temperamental Diana (Shor) and teams up with her new co-worker and 20-something Kelsey (Duff) to make it in the career of her dreams. Now she just has to make sure no one discovers her secret. View a preview of the series below:

Hand of God

Amazon announced two more original pilots will return to Prime Instant Video next year as full series. Dramatic thriller Hand of God, written by Ben Watkins (Burn Notice) and directed by Marc Forster (World War Z), along with Steven Soderbergh's (The Knick, Traffic) coming-of-age comedy Red Oaks, will become the next Amazon Original series following rave customer reviews of the pilot episodes. In Hand of God, created and written by Ben Watkins, and marking the television debut of renowned filmmaker Marc Forsterthe series stars Golden Globe winner Ron Perlman in his first lead television role since Sons of Anarchy as the honorable justice Pernell Harris. The show centers on Judge Harris, a hard-living, law-bending married man with a high-end call girl on the side, who suffers a mental breakdown and goes on a vigilante quest to find the rapist who tore his family apart. With no real evidence to go on, Pernell begins to rely on "visions" and "messages" he believes are being sent by God through Pernell's ventilator-bound son. Hand of God also stars Dana Delany (Body of Proof) as the Judge's protective wife Crystal Harris, Garret Dillahunt as KD, the born-again sociopath whose violent tendencies are exploited by Pernell, Andre Royo as the slick, smart, gregarious, and greedy mayor Robert 'Bobo' Boston, Alona Tal as Pernell's grieving daughter-in-law Jocelyn Harris, Julian Morris as the questionable preacher Paul Curtis, Elizabeth McLaughlin as the preacher's sultry girlfriend Alicia, and Emayatzy Corinealdi as Pernell's call girl and confidante Tessie.

Red Oaks

In the comedy Red Oaks, directed by Sundance award-winner David Gordon Green and executive produced by Academy Award winner Steven Soderbergh, the comedy stars Craig Roberts (Submarine) as David Myers, an assistant tennis pro at the Red Oaks Country Club in suburban New Jersey in 1985. David is both reeling from his father's heart attack and conflicted about what college major to declare in the fall; his father Sam Myers is played by Richard Kind (Luck). While there, David meets a colorful cast of misfit co-workers and wealthy club members including an alluring art student named Skye, played by Alexandra Socha, and her corporate raider father Getty played by Paul Reiser (Mad About You) and Ennis Esmer as Nash. A coming-of-age comedy set in the "go-go" 80s that is equal parts hijinks and heartfelt, Red Oaks is about enjoying a last hurrah before summer comes to an end - and the future begins. Red Oaks also stars Jennifer Grey (It's Like, You Know) as Judy Myers, Oliver Cooper (Californication) as Wheeler and Gage Golightly as Karen.
