SitcomsOnline Digest: Young Sheldon Coming to an End After Seven Seasons; The CW International Sitcom Approach Not Going So Well

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! This week, we're learning about the end of one of the very last successful broadcast network sitcoms, the cancellation of some sitcoms at The CW that nobody expected to succeed anyway, and news about a reboot of Home Improvement that probably isn't happening. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB

  • Young Sheldon is coming to an end after the upcoming seventh season, which is sort of a natural end for the series as a prequel eventually runs out of time between the prequel and the original series itself. (Deadline)
  • It seems that The CW's strategy of evolving from Warner Bros superhero shows to Canadian and British sitcoms that nobody in the US has even heard of isn't working out, as Run the Burbs and Everyone Else Burns have both been pulled from the schedule. (Deadline)
  • It isn't the first time we've heard this (the first time was before Last Man Standing debuted), but Tim Allen is now saying he wants a reboot of Home Improvement... we're not exactly expecting to give any further updates on something that probably isn't going to happen, though. (Entertainment Weekly)
  • We're equally as skeptical on this chatter of a potential Dukes of Hazzard reboot as well. (Entertainment Weekly)
  • Here's one that might have an ounce of truth: a reboot of The Office is NOT happening, but a spinoff that is in the vein of the original series could be in the works. (The Wrap)
  • The Price is Right: The Barker Era channel on Pluto TV is going a little deeper in the archives finally, and adding some episodes from the 70s. (Cord Cutters News)
  • Dick Van Dyke is about to turn 98, and CBS is here to celebrate. (SitcomsOnline)

WEEKLY PLANNER (NOVEMBER 18 - NOVEMBER 24)

  • Last weekend, Catchy Comedy had a binge of All the Family and Sanford & Son; this weekend, All in the Family is back but it is being paired with Good Times this time.
  • Catchy Comedy is having a Dean Martin "Thanksgiving Roast" with comedy roast specials on Thanksgiving Day.
  • Antenna TV isn't going full-blown marathon this year for Thanksgiving weekend, but they do have Black and White Friday coming up on Friday, with a marathon of black and white episodes of TV shows.
  • Meanwhile, Rewind TV will have a Family Ties marathon on Thanksgiving Day.

SitcomsOnline Digest: TV Land Removes The Dukes of Hazzard; Melrose Place to Become Unauthorized Story; New Growing Pains and King of the Hill DVD Releases

Happy Independence Day and welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! Plus, we have less controversial news about new Growing Pains and King of the Hill DVDs. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
  • There has been some controversy regarding The Dukes of Hazzard in the past few weeks, and TV Land also removed the series this week (there is speculation that it is due to the use of the Confederate flag in the series, though it is important to note that TV Land is known for abrupt schedule changes for virtually any reason), but in the midst of all of this, the series has been topping the DVD sales on amazon.com, to the point where the first season will set you back about $100 and is only available from third party sellers. (New York Post)
  • The Unauthorized Stories franchise at Lifetime will never end. This week, yet another one was announced: Melrose Place. (Jezebel)
  • The Miss USA Pageant has been in limbo since NBC and Univision decided to not air it following lots and lots of controversial news regarding Donald Trump that we won't even get into here, but Reelz has jumped in to rescue it. (Variety)
  • Sesame Street has had an unusual amount of stability when it comes to the the actors who appear in the show, but this week, it was announced that Sonia Manzano, who has played Maria for the past 45 years has retiring and will not be back for next season.. (NPR
  • The famous 30 Rock building in New York, which (of course) had an entire sitcom named after it, is now The Comcast Building. (Vanity Fair)
  • What would the Fourth of July be without marathons everywhere? We've got your entire list. (SitcomsOnline)

Claim to Fame: Pamela Adlon may not be a name that resonates with everybody immediately, but her name before her marriage (and subsequent divorce), Pamela Segall, might be more familiar. One of her first roles ever was on The Facts of Life playing Kelly, a mostly forgotten character who was actually a regular character (and received a billing in the opening credits) during the fifth season. After that, she did a lot of guest work on series, until she found one of her true callings in voice work in 1996 (usually voicing the characters of young boys), starting in Bobby's World. Her biggest role as a voice actor was as Bobby Hill on King of the Hill. These days, though, she isn't limiting her work to voice acting, as she is an executive producer and recurring character on the series Louie.

Nurse Jackie

After six award-winning and critically-acclaimed seasons, Nurse Jackie, the Showtime hit comedy starring the extraordinary Edie Falco, will begin production this week on its seventh and final season. PBS to Air 4th Season of Pioneers of Television in April; CMT Celebrates 35th Anniversary of Dukes of Hazzard

Pioneers of Television

Standup comedians who landed sitcoms, TV doctors and nurses, standout comedy actors, and the people who broke the color barrier on television, are the subjects explored when Pioneers of Television returns to PBS this April, offering inside stories from some of America's most beloved television stars. The fourth season of the Emmy-nominated series reveals intriguing behind-the-scenes stories and fascinating facts about television's most well-known and influential celebrities. On January 21 at the semi-annual Television Critics Association conference, Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond), Bob Newhart (The Bob Newhart Show, Newhart), Jimmie Walker (Good Times), Leslie Uggams (The Leslie Uggams Show) and George Takei (Star Trek) introduced television critics to the exciting upcoming season with a panel discussion and an inside look at season four. New interviews with legendary stars, including Robin Williams, Roseanne Barr and Dick Van Dyke, and never-before-seen images mix with timeless footage that continues to entertain TV viewers decades later. Pioneers of Television's first-hand look at the medium is guided by the stories of television icons who appear in memorable footage and reminisce about the iconic genres they helped popularize.

The genres highlighted in this season of four one-hour Pioneers of Television episodes include:

STANDUP TO SITCOM
This star-packed episode features fresh interviews with Jerry Seinfeld, Roseanne Barr, Tim Allen, Ray Romano, and Bob Newhart. The program reveals how America's top standup comics made the transition to the sitcom form; and includes dozens of clips from Seinfeld, Home Improvement, Everybody Loves Raymond, Roseanne, and more.

DOCTORS AND NURSES
From George Clooney on ER to Richard Chamberlain on Dr. Kildare, television's long love affair with doctors and nurses shows no signs of letting up. Noah Wyle, Anthony Edwards, Gloria Reuben and Eriq LaSalle open up about the secrets of ER; Howie Mandel, Ed Begley Jr. and Christina Pickles revisit St. Elsewhere. The episode also features the final interview with Chad Everett of Medical Center before his recent death.

ACTING FUNNY
This episode peeks behind the curtain to reveal the backstage techniques of America's favorite comedic actors. The program features the manic improvisational style of Robin Williams, along with his comic predecessor Jonathan Winters. They're a fascinating contrast to Tina Fey, who explains her measured, highly prepared approach. The episode also highlights the all-time #1 Emmy winner for comedy acting: Cloris Leachman.

BREAKING BARRIERS
This episode traces the story of people of color on American television — including the mid-1960s breakthroughs of African Americans Diahann Carroll (Julia) and Bill Cosby (I Spy). Latino landmarks range from I Love Lucy with Desi Arnaz to Miami Vice with Edward James Olmos. Also featured are Asian Americans like George Takei (Star Trek), who details his youth spent in a Japanese American internment camp.

The Dukes of Hazzard

CMT will celebrate a milestone 35 years since The Dukes of Hazzard first launched with eight back-to-back hours of the most-loved episodes on Sunday, January 26 beginning at 2:00 pm, ET/PT. For a chance to see their name and favorite Dukes fact on television, fans are invited to be part of the fast-moving episodes by sharing Dukes facts on facebook.com/TheDukesRideAgain and on Twitter using #Dukes35. The series returned to CMT earlier this month, airing for the first time in high-definition. The iconic television series originally launched on January 26, 1979, and exploded as a pop culture phenomenon throughout its successful seven-year run. Bo, Luke and Daisy Duke, along with their Uncle Jesse, fought the corrupt political system of Hazzard County, and made short-shorts, fast cars and CB radios cool around the globe.

Coach Coming to VH1 Classic; The Dukes of Hazzard Returning to CMT

Coach

The classic Craig T. Nelson sitcom Coach is coming back to cable. Reruns of the sitcom will start airing on VH1 Classic beginning Saturday, January 4, 2014. The series will premiere with a mini-marathon from 2pm-5:30pm. Then starting the next night (Sunday, Jan. 5), Coach will air Sun-Thurs at 11:00pm & 11:30pm ET on VH1 Classic. Coach will be the only sitcom on the network now, as they have recently removed Married...with Children, Larry Sanders Show and Bullwinkle Show. But Coach will be paired with reruns of Saturday Night Live, which will air immediately following Coach at 12 Midnight. Coach will get some play on Saturdays from time to time in mini-blocks, like on Jan. 4 and also on Jan. 18 from 3-7pm.

Coach was last seen on the cable network ReelzChannel TV, but they removed the sitcom earlier in 2013. Coach aired for nine seasons on ABC from 1989 to 1997. The series starred Craig T. Nelson as Hayden Fox, head coach of the fictional Division I-A college football team the Minnesota State University Screaming Eagles. The sitcom also starred Jerry Van Dyke as Luther Van Dam and Bill Fagerbakke as Michael "Dauber" Dybinski, assistant coaches under Coach Fox. The role of Hayden's girlfriend (and later wife) Christine Armstrong, a television news anchor, was played by Shelley Fabares.

The Dukes of Hazzard

They're back! The Dukes of Hazzard will once again come to CMT! The series re-launches with a marathon event on Sunday, January 5, 2014 from 3pm-10pm. The classic '80s series will then air weekdays at 12 noon and 7pm beginning Monday, January 6, 2014. The Dukes of Hazzard will lead into movies or Extreme Makeover: Home Edition at 1pm. CMT will air Extreme Makeover: Home Edition at 4pm leading into its two-hour Reba block from 5-7pm, as now The Dukes of Hazzard airs at 7pm. The Dukes of Hazzard seems to come back to CMT quite a bit. It originally aired on the network from 2005-07 before returning in 2010. It then disappeared again a few years late and now it will be back starting Jan. 5, 2014!

The series originally aired on CBS from 1979 to 1985. The show followed the adventures of "The Duke Boys," cousins Bo (John Schneider) and Luke Duke (Tom Wopat), who live in a rural part of the fictional Hazzard County, Georgia with their attractive cousin Daisy (Catherine Bach) and their wise old Uncle Jesse (Denver Pyle), as they race around in their customized 1969 Dodge Charger stock car, christened (The) General Lee, evading crooked county commissioner Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke) and his inept county sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane (James Best), and always managing to get caught in the middle of the various escapades and incidents that often occur in the area.

Digital Digest: Charlie Brown's Christmas Tales DVD Review; The Dukes - The Complete Series DVD Review

Merry Christmas, everybody! We hope you are having a great one, and we hope to make it even better for you with this week's edition of Digital Digest! We have a light news week this week, but we have reviews of Charlie Brown's Christmas Tales and the animated The Dukes - The Complete Series. Plus, we have an edition of Digital Bargains this week, where we tell you about some great deals that you can find on DVDs. Let's get going!

DIGITAL NEWS

It's Christmas week so our news is very slow this week. But we do have two items of note, the first from MPI. We mentioned in the past that Here's Lucy - Season Four is forthcoming, but now, thanks to TVShowsOnDVD.com, we have a release date! Look for the fourth season of the series on DVD on March 29, if everything goes as planned.

Next, we go over to Warner Home Video. As we already know, they will be completing the series Dallas on DVD in just a few weeks with their release of Dallas - The Complete Final Season, but what about the Dallas movies? It turns out that Warner will be releasing those as well, at a later date. Look for Dallas - The Movie Collection on April 12. It will include Dallas: The Early Years, Dallas: J.R. Returns, Dallas: The War Of The Ewings, and Dallas Reunion: Return To Southfork.

Amazon.com has some new offerings available to watch on demand, including episodes of Growing Pains and Perfect Strangers! You can now watch season 2 and season 3 of Growing Pains, and a "best of" collection of episodes from Perfect Strangers! When you purchase these, you can view these in streaming form online, or you can download them to your PC. We will do your best to keep you updated on any new series that become available to view on demand.

UPCOMING WEEK PREVIEW

Tuesday (December 28) brings very little to DVD (as it is a holiday week), but there are two items of note, including Warner Home Video's A Charlie Brown Valentine, and Showtime's United States of Tara - The Second Season. We'll have a review of A Charlie Brown Valentine sometime in the upcoming weeks.

DIGITAL BARGAINS

Since it is a slow news week and because we know you are probably all dying to spend those gift cards that you will be receiving today, why not figure out where to get the best bang for your buck on your favorite series on DVD and Blu-ray? We have one big sale of note this week, but as always, we remind you that there is almost always something good going on at Big Lots! Big Lots still has at many stores nationwide a lot of CBS Home Entertainment titles of classic series, although they are now a little bit more, at $10.

We focus this week on one of the nation's leading big box general merchandise retailers, Target, as their ad for next week features many great deals on some more contemporary television hits. If you are headed for the "bulls eye store" next week, you'll find several TV series at great prices. The most expensive ones in tomorrow's ad (which is good all week) at $19.99 and include the latest seasons of Grey's Anatomy, Lost, and Modern Family, as well as the first season of True Blood. At $14.99, you can get most of the released seasons of hit series such as Castle, Glee, How I Met Your Mother, The Office, and True Blood - The Complete Second Season (kind of odd that season 2 is cheaper than season 1!). But the best deals are at $9.99, and include Entourage, Parenthood (cheapest I have ever seen this one), and Weeds! Check out a complete scan of the Target ad at DVD Talk. Of course, if you don't want to deal with the crowds, amazon.com usually price matches all of Target's prices, and in fact, as of now, they are already price matching many of the items.

BLOG FEATURE REVIEW

'Tis the season for the cheer and charm of the Peanuts kids - and this delight special offers five segments full of unforgettable moments. Snoopy works as a bell-ringer to raise money and tries making peace with the ferocious cat next door. Linus strives to strike the right tone in his letter to Santa - and his friendship with an indecisive girl at school. Sally's idea about gift giving and the identity of Santa may be unusual - but her strange notion about how to obtain a Christmas tree surprisingly does the job. Lucy tries awfully hard to be nice...and still coax everyone around her to buy her presents. Charlie Brown and Sally wait up for Santa (a surprisingly short man), who spreads Christmas gift cheer further than they had thought. Make merry! So, without further adieu read our DVD review of Charlie Brown's Christmas Tales.

DVD Review: Charlie Brown's Christmas Tales
by Pavan

Charlie Brown's Christmas Tales (Warner, $14.98) brings us the 2002 ABC produced special on DVD for the first time. We also get a classic bonus special, Is This Goodbye, Charlie Brown? that is available on DVD for the first time as well. That is the 24th special and it aired on CBS in 1983.

In Charlie Brown's Christmas Tales, we get five short vignettes that was produced by ABC so they can air it with the half-hour classic A Charlie Brown Christmas. Every year since 2002, ABC airs the classic special in its original unedited form, followed by this 2002 produced product with five holiday vignettes. The vignettes are titled: "Happy Holidays from Snoopy," "Yuletide Greetings from Linus," Season's Greetings from Sally," "Peace on Earth from Lucy" and "Merry Christmas from Charlie Brown." Watch and see what they are about! I hinted at it in the review preview. In Is This Goodbye, Charlie Brown?, we have Charlie Brown and his friends facing a possible departure of Linus and Lucy as they must move because their father gets transferred to a job in another town. What will happen?

Let's take a look at the runtimes and number of chapter stops for each special:

1. Charlie Brown's Christmas Tales (17:51, 5 chapters)
2. Is This Goodbye, Charlie Brown? (24:15, 4 chapters)

Let's now move on to the packaging. It's the same as all the previous sets like these. We get a very thin keep case, that is movie style. The cover art is a snow blue type color and has a artwork of Snoopy ice skating in the snow. The title of the set is on top. The bottom says, we have a bonus Peanuts TV special and a Snoopy Peanuts logo is present. To the back we go, we get a nice shot of Charlie Brown with Snoopy, Linus and Lucy. The back also has details on the two specials and a list of bonus features (which is the bonus special). When we open the case, there is no artwork inside, so it is just plain black, like usual. The disc is on the right panel with artwork of Snoopy and a snowman. Once again the background color is a snow blue type color.

The menu screen has options of Features, Trailers, and Languages. We get that snow blue background again along with the same artwork as the cover art, with the theme song playing in the background. For Languages, we just have an option for English. For subtitles we have English or French. The Features section have the two specials listed by title, we can also select Play All to play them consecutively. Finally, Trailers has previews of Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown and Peanuts '70s Collection. There are also auto-trailers before the main menu for other Peanuts holiday sets.

The video and audio is tremendous once again, as it should be since this was produced in 2002. It looks HD even if this isn't Blu-ray. All of these specials are all so good ever since they started the Remastered Collection sets. They have never looked better or sounded better ever. I am very impressed yet again; what more can I continue to say about these digitally remastered sets? Warner continues to do a great job on this remastering of all these classic specials. And the main thing is that all of the specials are unedited! These sets are must buys for the video quality alone, as it is a major improvement over the VHS versions or anything you taped from TV in the last two decades.

As for special features, we get nothing here besides the bonus special. That is a disappointment since we usually get at least one featurette on a set.

I once again highly do recommend this set for any Charlie Brown-Peanuts fan and classic animation in general. Continue your collection, because we get two more specials that we never had on DVD before and all are remastered again. This is worth it! Though, I think Charlie Brown's Christmas Tales should have been on the A Charlie Brown Christmas set. The shorts are less than 18 minutes, so it really doesn't need its own DVD, I think. Oh well, at least we get a classic 1983 special for the first time. I'm still waiting for the '80s Peanuts collection, though. I hope they get those out soon. There are about 14 of those so it might need 2 volumes. Warner continues to do a wonderful job with the remastering (well 2002 one probably didn't need it). I just wish we had a behind the scenes extra for this set, like we had on the others. Let's hope they continue to release more Peanuts specials and eventually we get them all remastered in our personal libraries! Enjoy these 5 holiday shorts and the rarely seen Is This Goodbye, Charlie Brown...but remember this is not going to be goodbye to Charlie Brown on DVD because I see more to come! Merry Christmas!

BLOG FEATURE REVIEW

In this fondly remembered animated series produced by Hanna-Barbera Studios, Bo, Luke and Daisy Duke take their high-wheelin' country cruisin' around the world in a race against Boss Hogg for the family farm. No joshin' - the Dukes speed through France, Italy, Austria, Greece, England – you name it, the General Lee made tracks there! En route, Boss Hogg pulls the nastiest tricks ever, like blinding the boys with a fog machine, having them kidnapped and tricking them into a jewel heist. Why, that Hogg's as crooked as a dog's hind leg! But that won't stop the Dukes from fighting a fair fight and teaching that cheat a few tricks along the way. Y'all need to catch this 4-Disc, 20-Episode Complete Animated Series Collection from the time the pedal hits the metal all the way to the finish line! Here is our review of The Dukes - The Complete Series.

DVD Review: The Dukes - The Complete Series
by Greg Brobeck

The Dukes - The Complete Series (Warner Archive, $29.95) includes all 20 episodes of the animated spin-off of The Dukes of Hazzard on four discs. The series spanned two seasons in 1983 (it premiered mid-season in February on CBS, but was canceled by the end of the year, even though a second season of episodes premiered that fall). Animation was done by Hanna-Barbera.

The show features the original cast of the primetime series providing the voices, including Denver Pyle (Uncle Jesse), Catherine Bach (Daisy), James Best (Roscoe P. Coltrane), and Sorrell Booke (Boss Hogg). This however proves to be a major drawback during the first season, as this was the year of Tom Wopat (Luke Duke) and John Schneider's (Bo Duke) contract dispute. The two were replaced by Byron Cherry and Christopher Mayer as Coy and Vance Duke, and provide the voices of those same characters during the first season of the animated series. Fans disliked the "replacement Dukes," ratings dropped, and eventually Wopat and Schneider were brought back, both in primetime and Saturday morning. The primetime show's ratings never recovered, and neither did the Saturday morning series, which was canceled after a brief second season.

The plot involves the Duke brothers (either set depending on which season) and Daisy competing in a race around the world to win enough money to keep Boss Hogg from foreclosing on the family farm. Boss Hogg also entered the race to both win the prize money himself, and keeps the Dukes from keeping the farm. Each episode featured the cast in a different exotic locale (Australia, India, Italy, Scotland, etc.) with the Dukes trying to win the race, while Boss Hogg and Roscoe schemed to keep them from doing so. Though, one episode ("A Dickens of a Christmas") broke from the norm, and featured the Dukes taking a break from the race and playing part in a Hazzard County version of A Christmas Carol with Boss Hogg as Scrooge. Uncle Jesse bookended each episode by reading letters from the Dukes.

In the handful of episodes I viewed before writing this review, I was actually surprised at the quality of the episodes. The storylines were probably slightly above average for cartoon series of that time, and were actually somewhat compelling. The show is far from being among the best of Hanna-Barbera's catalog, or even the best of the series they had on at the time, but if you want to spend a half-hour with an entertaining show that will allow your brain cells to relax, this is a good choice. Being from Warner Archive, this is a manufacture-on-demand (MOD) set on DVD-R's. Initially the first several sets sold were autographed by James Best, but those have sold out. The discs may not play in certain DVD players, or DVD drives, but work fine in all of mine.

The following is a list of the episodes which aired on CBS Saturday mornings. Episodes generally run slightly longer than 22 minutes, which was the average running time of a daytime or Saturday morning series of the time. The show has rarely been rerun, so I'm not sure if edited versions even exist:

Disc 1:
1. "Put Up Your Dukes" - February 5, 1983 (22:19)
2. "Jungle Jitters" - February 12, 1983 (22:15)
3. "The Dukes of Venice" - February 19, 1983 (22:10)
4. "Morocco Bound" - February 26, 1983 (22:15)
5. "The Secret Satellite" - March 5, 1983 (22:18)

Disc 2:
6. "The Dukes of London" - March 12, 1983 (22:19)
7. "The Greece Fleece" - March 19, 1983 (22:16)
8. "The Dukes in India" - March 26, 1983 (22:12)
9. "The Dukes in Uzbekistan" - April 2, 1983 (22:15)
10. "The Dukes in Hong Kong" - April 9, 1983 (22:21)

Disc 3:
11. "The Dukes of Scotland" - April 16, 1983 (22:15)
12. "The Dukes Do Paris" - April 23, 1983 (22:13)
13. "The Dukes in Switzerland" - April 30, 1983 (22:16)
14. "Boss O'Hogg and the Little People" - September 17, 1983 (22:17)
15. "Tales of the Vienna Hoods" - September 24, 1983 (22:11)

Disc 4:
16. "The Kid From Madrid" - October 1, 1983 (22:17)
17. "A Dickens of a Christmas" - October 8, 1983 (22:12)
18. "The Canadian Caper" - October 15, 1983 (22:18)
19. "The Dukes in Hollywood" - October 22, 1983 (22:31)
20. "A Hogg in a Foggy Bog" - October 29, 1983 (22:15)

Packaging is simple. As with all other multi-disc Warner Archive sets, this one comes in a clear multi-disc Amaray case with two moving pages that the discs are stored on. The outer packaging has a nice stock drawing from the series with the Dukes crossing the finish line in the General Lee with Boss Hogg and Roscoe not far behind. The show's logo is at the top in large orange letters, along with "Hanna-Barbera Classic Collection." Each disc has a drawing of the Dukes brothers and Daisy walking arm in arm, along with the show logo and a list of which episodes are on the disc. I don't know if this is indicative of Warner Archive's typical packaging techniques, but my review copy arrived in a bubble mailer, with the case cracked in several places and the case will not close.

Menus are very simple, as with other Archive releases, the Main Menu features a blue background with the words "Archive Collection" at the top. Your choices are Play All or Episode Selection. The latter choice lets you choose from a list of episodes displayed on your screen. Each is represented by a screen capture of that episode's title card. There are no options for audio or subtitles. Neither subtitles nor closed captions are on the set. Each episode includes one chapter mark, at about the halfway point. This is not very useful, and even if chapter marks at commercial breaks weren't possible, one every five minutes would be an improvement.

Video and audio are in good quality. Despite the fact that these are DVD-R's which have a smaller storage capacity than normal DVD's, colors are vibrant and the overall picture is clear. I have a small nitpick with the mono audio, however. Sound mixing seems to be a bit off--that is, in many episodes, the music and sound effect are louder than the dialogue and sometimes drown it out. I don't know if this is a problem with the original masters or with the DVD mastering. For closing logo enthusiasts, each episode maintains the H-B "swirling star" logo of the period, along with a period Warner Bros. logo.

There are no special features on this set of any kind. While I understand that MOD releases rarely have bonus features to keep costs down, perhaps interviews with the cast or animation crew members would have been a nice touch, perhaps even mentioning the major cast change between seasons. However, that topic was covered a great deal on the corresponding DVD sets of the primetime series, so maybe it wasn't necessary here.

Overall, I can recommend this series for fans of The Dukes of Hazzard and die-hard fans of Hanna-Barbera cartoons, but I really don't think I could recommend this set to casual animation fans, or those buying DVD sets for their kids. The series is a bit dated and a bit corny, but, for me at least, was fun to watch anyway. I can't help but feel that there are other shows in the Hanna-Barbera library that deserved release before this one, but it seems the folks at Warner Archive are trying to cash in on fans of The Dukes of Hazzard. Though I believe a release of the live-action spinoff Enos might have been a better route to go with that.

Green Acres, Dallas Marathons on CMT; ABC Family Giveaway; 2011 WGA Awards Nominees

Ahleevah! Hotscakes! Shoost. We have some exciting news for you today. CMT will be airing marathons of the classic '60s sitcom Green Acres and the long-running primetime soap Dallas to start off 2011! That is vanderful, as Lisa Douglas would probably say! The two series will air part of a New Year's Weekend stunt, with The Dukes of Hazzard kicking it off on the last day of 2010 (Friday, Dec. 31, 2010) from 2pm-3am. Then Dallas airs 10 episodes on the first day of the year (Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011) from 2pm-12am, with encores of the first three episodes from 12am-3am. And the weekend ends with some Green Acres on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011 from 2pm-7pm and again from 7pm-12am with the first ten episodes of the rural sitcom. More Dukes of Hazzard will air after the Green Acres marathon from 12am-3am.
Green Acres was last seen on cable on TV Land, as it ran until end of August 2009. Dallas was last seen on cable on SOAPnet, as that ran until September 2008. As of now, these two series are just for these marathons on CMT. They are not going to join the regular CMT schedule like The Dukes of Hazzard, but if they decide later on to add one or both of these, we will be the first to let you know! Just be glad they are airing these shows, because it really surprised us when we found out! Especially Green Acres. On Green Acres, successful New York lawyer Oliver Wendell Douglas gives up the rat race to fulfill his dream: living the life of the traditional American farmer. Fighting the move to rural life is his glamorous, boa-wearing, city-loving wife, Lisa. Starring Eddie Albert, Eva Gabor, Tom Lester. And on Dallas, arguably the best television series ever produced, Dallas had it all. Beautiful women, expensive cars, and men playing Monopoly with real buildings. It had the best trans-season cliffhanger in history that had the whole world asking "Who shot J.R.?"
View episode information for both the Dallas marathon and the Green Acres marathon on CMT. CMT is the place to be this New Year's! Can't wait for Green Acres on Jan. 2? Watch every episode on Hulu right now!

New Digital Station Antenna TV Coming in January 2011; CMT Fall 2010, Hallmark Channel Update

I think we have the news of the year folks! A new digital broadcast station is coming soon from Tribune Broadcasting and will feature classic TV shows and movies! Tribune Broadcasting has announced the launch of Antenna TV, a classic television and general entertainment movie network to air as a digital multicast on Tribune's broadcast stations beginning January 3, 2011. Tribune markets include New York's WPIX, Los Angeles' KTLA and Chicago's local WGN. The Chicago affiliate for Antenna TV will be WGN-DT 9.2. Antenna TV will also be offered for national distribution to non-Tribune stations. Stay with us in the coming months for an official list of stations.
Antenna TV will offer a combination of movies and classic television shows including: Three's Company, All in the Family, Sanford and Son, Good Times, Too Close for Comfort, Benny Hill, Maude, The Partridge Family, The Nanny, and Married...with Children. And even more cool stuff like Three's Company's short-lived spin-offs The Ropers and Three's a Crowd will air within Three's Company itself! That sounds very cool and unique! More to come on this in the coming months. Black & white classic television series will air in the overnight and includes classics like Father Knows Best, Dennis the Menace, The Donna Reed Show, and on weekends The Three Stooges. As you may have noticed, the series are mostly from Sony Pictures Television and a few from Don Taffner's DLT Entertainment. More shows will be announced soon, so stay tuned.
A schedule isn't ready for release yet but there will be movies in the daytime and sitcoms starting at 5pm and going through the overnight hours. NO paid programming will be on this digital multicast at all, as it is 24/7 entertainment! There will be a lot of themed events, including holiday marathons. This is going to be a delight for sitcom and classic TV fans! Many of these series have not aired on local syndication in years, so this will be fun to watch in a new way on digital television! This station comes from the same people who run the cable network WGN America and the digital station THIS TV, so you bet Antenna TV will be good. Stay with us for further updates and we will be the first to let you know the launch schedule when ready! And special thanks as always to Sean Compton, president of programming for Tribune Broadcasting, for his help and information!

Moving back to our look at the fall 2010 cable schedules, today we will give you details on CMT. We normally only cover CMT when they air a television series or sitcom. After three years, The Dukes of Hazzard is returning to CMT! The series returns in style with a 3-day marathon starting Friday, Sept. 10! The marathon airs that Friday from 8pm-3am and that Saturday & Sunday both from 2pm-3am. The series will then join the regular schedule on Monday, Sept. 13 and air weeknights at 7pm & 11pm. In other series updates, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition will air air 2-4pm and 1-3am weeknights with primetime airings on Tuesday nights. Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? airs weeknights at 6:30pm and 12-1am. Trading Spouses usually airs once a week sometime in the daytime. That's about it for CMT, as the rest of the schedule is filled with music, originals and movies.

And finally, we have an update for you to the Hallmark Channel Fall 2010 schedule we relayed the other day. Weeknights at 8pm starting Tuesday, Sept. 7 will now be Little House on the Prairie, rather than Touched by an Angel. This means Touched is off the schedule for now. Little House will now be exclusive to Hallmark as it won't share the series with TV Land anymore, since TV Land's contract expired yesterday. Now Hallmark can air the series anytime and not just 6am-6pm. As a result, Hallmark will air a marathon of Little House on the Prairie on Saturday, Sept. 4 from 6am-4am. The Cheers marathon originally slated for this day is no longer scheduled, but Who's the Boss? and I Love Lucy remain on Sept. 5-6.
View the updated Hallmark Channel Fall 2010 schedule. And stay with us for further updates, as usual.

CMT Schedule News; Spike Schedule Note; Fresh Prince Week on Nick at Nite

It's back to the basics, schedules galore for us! Today we have schedule updates from CMT, Spike and Nick at Nite!

CMT will be ending its run of The Dukes of Hazzard later this summer. We don't exactly know when yet, but through the end of June it is on the schedule still. "After a fantastic two-year run, it's time to give the Dukes a proper CMT farewell with a summer primetime block," says Mary Beth Cunin, vice president of programming strategy, CMT. "We want fans to be able to watch the series from the beginning and relive their favorite Dukes moments before the General Lee rides off into the sunset."
The show will now air weeknights at 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. starting May 28. CMT will also do a CMT's Top Twenty Countdown on the DukesFest which will air on June 7 from 4-7pm. CMT will also air the reunion movie at 10pm that night along with the Hollywood movie at midnight. On June 10, there will be a special block from 6pm-12am with two episodes and the two movies.
In other CMT news, they will create an afternoon block starting Monday, June 11 with four-year (2001-05 series) court show Texas Justice airing back-to-back from 1-2pm and two episodes of the sitcom Mama's Family weekdays from 2-3pm! We knew they couldn't just keep Mama as a special block! Now we get to see it regularly and it will still be a regular on ION Television in primetime!

Fans of The Three Stooges or Seven Days will be happy because they will return to Spike TV in July. The problem is you will never know when they are on. Spike TV has scheduled them for 3am or 3:30am slots a few times a week. So be on the look out! Spike also has relegated Star Trek: Deep Space 9 to sometimes in the overnights, usually 2am...ouch. They have released schedules through September, and you guessed it, the Labor Day marathon (Sept. 3) is CSI from 9am-9pm. No other changes.

Yes, Nick at Nite will have another Fresh Prince of Bel-Air week all this week from 9:30pm-5am Mon-Thurs, Sun and 10:30pm-5am on Fri-Sat. Aren't you all just so excited? This show, Roseanne, and Cosby Show are the only ones ever getting week-long marathons these days from Nick at Nite.
