Survival of the Thickest Gets 2nd Season; Roma Downey and Ted McGinley Set to Star on Prime Video

Michelle Buteau announced on TODAY Show that Survival of the Thickest will be returning to Netflix for Season 2! She also announced that she will be debuting her second comedy special with Netflix, following her previous special, Michelle Buteau: Welcome to Buteaupia. It's a Michelle takeover! Survival of the Thickest's first season debuted on Netflix on July 13, 2023 and has since been nominated for 7 NAACP Awards including 4 nominations for Michelle Buteau as Executive Producer (Outstanding Comedy Series), Star (Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series) and Writer (Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series) as well as Outstanding Breakthrough Creative (Television). The comedy centers on Mavis Beaumont (Michelle Buteau). Black, plus-size and newly single (not by her choice!), Mavis unexpectedly finds herself having to rebuild her life as a struggling stylist. She's determined to not only survive but thrive with the support of her chosen family, a body positive attitude, and a cute v-neck with some lip gloss. The scripted comedy is based on Buteau's acclaimed book of essays.

Prime Video announced that the family drama series The Baxters will premiere on the streaming service March 28 in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The announcement was made in conjunction with the unveiling of an exclusive clip and teaser art. The series stars and is executive produced by actress, producer, and New York Times best-selling author Roma Downey (Touched by an Angel) as the family matriarch, Elizabeth Baxter. Also starring is Ted McGinley (Shrinking, Married... with Children, Happy Days, Hope & Faith) as John Baxter. Season One of the series consists of ten episodes.
Based on the worldwide #1 New York Times Best-selling book series by Karen Kingsbury, The Baxters is a riveting family drama that follows Elizabeth (Downey) and John Baxter (McGinley) and their five adult children. Season One of The Baxters centers on Elizabeth and John's daughter, Kari (Ali Cobrin), who learns the shocking truth that her professor husband, Tim (Brandon Hirsch), has been secretly having an affair with one of his college students. As her relationship is tested, Kari must seek comfort in her faith and family to discover if love is truly a choice and if her marriage can be redeemed. In this deeply moving faith-based journey, The Baxters must come together as a family to work through the challenges of life.
