SitcomsOnline Digest: Remembering Betty White; Lost in Space a Hit for Netflix
Happy New Year and welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! Unfortunately, we are starting off the new year with remembering a true TV legend, as Betty White died yesterday (just a few weeks short of her 100th birthday), but we're here with the little bit of news that we do have. Let's get going!
HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
- This is one that we hate to see and really didn't expect to see happening, especially 17 days before what would've been her 100th birthday: Betty White has died. (CNN)
- Ratings news for streaming services is a bit rare (though becoming more common now that it's actually being measured), but for anybody wondering, Netflix's Lost in Space seems to be doing well in the streaming world. (Deadline)
- A season premiere date for a new season of Atlanta has been announced. (The Wrap)
- Deadline has a look at season (or mid-season) premiere dates for your favorite shows. (Deadline)
- Here is a look at all of the sitcom stars that we've lost in 2021, which is a pretty long list (and the cast of The Mary Tyler Moore Show was hit fairly hard). (SitcomsOnline)
WEEKLY PLANNER (JANUARY 1 - JANUARY 7)
- We're sure there will be more marathons and tributes, but so far, CMT has a Golden Girls marathon planned for Monday, and there is a Hot in Cleveland marathon going on right now on the Pluto TV Channel TV Land Sitcoms.
- The Decades binge of The Twilight Zone continues this weekend, but if one marathon isn't enough, there are actually two other marathons of the show going on, with one on Syfy (ending today) and another on Pluto TV.
- Kenan returns for a third season on NBC on Tuesday night.
- Tuesday brings a new season of black-ish and the regular time slot premiere of Abbott Elementary to ABC.
- American Auto and Grand Crew have their regular timeslot premieres on Tuesday on NBC.
- FXX has a Family Guy marathon 185 hour marathon that lasts until New Years, and includes (we think) every episode from the first 19 seasons.
- There are a lot more New Year marathons that you can read about here.
