Our Cartoon President Returns for 2nd Season; Netflix Film from Fresh off the Boat Producer Coming in 2019
The Showtime animated comedy series Our Cartoon President will return with seven new episodes starting on Sunday, July 15 at 10:30 p.m ET/PT. Executive produced by multiple Emmy(R) winner Stephen Colbert, showrunner R.J. Fried and Late Show executive producer Chris Licht, Our Cartoon President follows the tru-ish misadventures of the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, and his merry band of advisors and family members. The first season has already introduced audiences to Trump's attempts at "winning" the State of the Union address, comforting disaster victims and rolling back President Obama's accomplishments, as well as his co-dependent relationship with the media. The series averaged over two million weekly viewers in its first 10-episode run.
A new Netflix comedy movie from director Nahnatchka Khan, who produces Fresh off the Boat and also produced Apartment 23, is coming in 2019. Netflix's Always Be My Maybe started filming this week in Vancouver, Canada. Ali Wong (Baby Cobra, American Housewife), Randall Park (Fresh off the Boat), Keanu Reeves (The Matrix), Michelle Buteau (Broad City), Vivian Bang, Karan Soni (Deadpool 2, Miracle Workers), Charlyne Yi (Paper Heart, Second Act), Daniel Dae Kim (Hellboy, Hawaii Five-0, Lost), James Saito, Lyrics Born, and Susan Park (Vice Principals, Fargo, Snowpiercer) star. Ashley Liao and Miya Cech will play Sasha at a younger age; Jackson Geach and Emerson Yin will play Marcus at a younger age; Anaiyah Juliette Bernier and Sasha Zoey Rojen will play Veronica at a younger age.
In the film, childhood sweethearts have a falling out and don't speak for 15 years. They reconnect as adults when Sasha, now a celebrity chef opening a restaurant in San Francisco, runs into Marcus, a happily struggling musician still living at home working for his dad. The old sparks are still there but can they adapt to each other's world? Netflix will release the film in 2019. Ali Wong's breakout Netflix stand-up special, Baby Cobra, launched on the service in 2016 and her most recent special Hard Knock Wife debuted this past Mother's Day, both to wide acclaim from critics and fans. Wong will voice the lead character of 'Bertie' and serve as executive producer of the series, for the upcoming Netflix animated comedy series Tuca & Bertie.
