SitcomsOnline Digest: Roseanne Reboot Casts David and Darlene's Daughter; The CW Developing New Series Based Upon Sabrina Character

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! This weekend, as we're preparing for one of biggest weeks of fall debuts, we're hearing about casting news for the new Roseanne reboot, a new CW series based upon Sabrina, the Teenage Witch (that would be nothing like the sitcom that ABC/The WB aired over a decade ago), and more. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
  • The role of David and Darlene's daughter for the Roseanne reboot has been cast, and it's sort of a surprising pick, as it is somebody who has experience playing a regular role as daughter in a far more dysfunctional family: Emma Kenney, who plays Debbie, on the Showtime series Shameless. (Deadline)
  • We're not quite sure we can call this one a reboot, but a series based upon the character Sabrina (the teenage witch, of course) is in development at The CW, but even though it'll be based upon the same character that the popular sitcom that starred Melissa Joan Hart was based upon, it will be a much different series that is a dark drama. (Variety)
  • Saturday Night Live has set the first few hosts of the new season, and Kumail Nanjiani is among them. (Variety)
  • The ratings for the Emmy Awards were even worse this year than last year. (CNN)
  • Jimmy Kimmel has been making headlines in the past week by doing something that is completely unexpected and out of the ordinary for his late night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and that is taking a stance on a political issue… and he is hitting harder than any of the other ones. (Variety
  • Not only is Will & Grace coming back on NBC, you can also catch up on the original series now on Hulu. (SitcomsOnline

  • Warner Archive is going full steam ahead with The Jamie Foxx Show, with The Jamie Foxx Show - The Complete Fourth Season, set for an October 24 release.

TUESDAY (SEPTEMBER 26) HOME MEDIA RELEASES

Who to Follow: Iain Armitage (Twitter), "IAIN LOVES THEATRE and loves to talk about it. Played Ziggy in Big Little Lies and is Young Sheldon. All tweets written by adult."
Claim to Fame: We're used to Jim Parsons playing the character of Sheldon on the CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory, but this fall, we'll have to get used to another Sheldon, as Iain Armitage will play the younger version of Parsons' character on Young Sheldon. Jim Parsons, of course, will continue his role as Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory, and he'll even be narrating this series. As for Armitage, he is not quite 10 and his best known role so far came from playing Ziggy on the series Big Little Lies, but if this series becomes a hit, he'll probably be known for playing Sheldon.
