SitcomsOnline Digest: Reboot News for S.W.A.T. and L.A. Law; Spinoff for The Goldbergs Gets Pilot Pickup
HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
- The original series may have only lasted two seasons, but CBS has picked up a pilot for a reboot of the 1970s Aaron Spelling series S.W.A.T. (Variety)
- Meanwhile, things are not going quite so well for the L.A. Law reboot that has been proposed, so it is being retooled. (Yahoo! TV)
- The rumored spinoff for The Goldbergs has made it all the way up to pilot pickup status at ABC. (Hollywood Reporter)
- NBCUniversal has been slowly backing away from some of their less successful cable operations, and this week, that continued with the somewhat abrupt shutdown of Cloo, the network that aired several crime dramas and occasionally some sitcoms. (IndieWire)
- The third season of The Odd Couple just wrapped up on CBS, and given the somewhat disappointing ratings, it isn't really known if it'll be back for a fourth. (Deadline)
- Meanwhile, the news is a little better over at NBC for The Good Place, as it was renewed for a second season. (Deadline)
- Days of Our Lives fans will likely be pleased to know that series received somewhat of a reprieve this week, as it was announced that Megyn Kelly's new NBC show will replace an hour of Today instead of the declining soap opera, but with that announcement came the exit of Tamron Hall. (Deadline)
- getTV continues their tradition of airing classic series that have been somewhat lost, as they add The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams to their lineup starting with a marathon tomorrow. (SitcomsOnline)
TUESDAY (FEBRUARY 7) HOME MEDIA RELEASES
- 227 - The Complete First Season (DVD, $14.98): With the previous Sony release from a decade ago long out of print, Mill Creek brings the ladies of 227 back to DVD for this release, though it doesn't appear that there will be any further seasons for the time being.
- Dynasty - The First Season (DVD, $22.98): While it hasn't exactly become hard to find, the original 2005 release of the first season of this classic series has been out of print for quite some time, as it was released by Fox just before CBS acquired the rights to release the remainder of the series. Now, CBS remedies this by re-releasing this season on their own.
- Quantum Leap - The Complete Series (DVD, $69.98; Blu-ray, $99.98): The classic time traveling series returns to DVD and debuts on Blu-ray for the first time in this release from Mill Creek, and word is that, unlike the original Universal releases, a significant portion of the original music featured in the series has made it into this re-release.
- Sabrina, the Teenage Witch - Sabrina Down Under (DVD, $14.98): While the remainder of the series has been released on DVD, along with the other TV movie Sabrina Goes to Rome, this previously unreleased movie that aired on ABC during the original run of the series finally arrives on DVD in this release.
