GMC Rebrands, Changes Name to UP Starting June 1; Sitcom Stars on Talk Shows (Week of April 8, 2013)

Up Logo

Cable networks are starting their annual upfront presentations lately and we have some news on GMC that is interesting because we have another network name change. GMC TV, America's leading television destination for "Uplifting Entertainment," unveiled its most ambitious upfront original programming slate in the network's eight-year history. GMC TV, the fastest-growing entertainment network in ad-supported cable, up 80% among W25-54, is presenting dynamic 2013-2014 opportunities to advertisers during the upfront, across a slate of 66 originals, including GMC World Premiere Movies, GMC World Premiere Series and GMC World Premiere Stage Plays. In addition, the network said it is accelerating the timetable for its recently announced name change to UP, the latest stage in the channel's evolution as America's leading television destination for "Uplifting Entertainment." The changeover will occur on June 1, 2013 instead of September 1, 2013 because of overwhelmingly enthusiastic response by advertisers, distributors and the general viewing public. The fresh, new brand initiative is designed to communicate a clear sense of the network's unique brand position, which has always been, and will continue to be, "Uplifting Entertainment."

Among the new movies will be a TV movie starring Candace Cameron Bure, titled Finding Normal premiering in May. A new Christmas movie starring Drew Lachey titled Guess Who's Coming to Christmas will premiere in November. As for TV series, the fourth season of Heartland returns to GMC in June when the network rebrands to UP. 16 episodes have been ordered. No word yet on what will be changed or added in terms of off-network programming. Currently, GMC is heavy on the dramas on weekdays and in late nights they have sitcoms 227, Sister Sister and Family Ties. On Saturdays, there are blocks of Smart Guy, Sister Sister and Moesha. We will let you know if any more series will be added of course when the network rebrand as UP. So for now, stay tuned...
