Mini-DVD Review: Baywatch Syndicated Season 3 (Feb. 6)
Baywatch: Syndicated Season 3 (First Look, $34.99 each) brings the first third season from the syndication years on DVD on a five-disc set. And like on the previous two seasons, they put the next two episodes of the NBC season as extras. Eventually we will have all the NBC episodes. You just will have to buy the syndicated seasons to get them. But anyway, join Mitch (David Hasselhoff), C.J. (Pamela Anderson), Summer (Nicole Eggert), Matt (David Charvet) and the rest of the sexy gang save lives and get themselves in danger. Packaging is similar to the last set. A nice colorful box with five slim cases, each holding its own disc. On the cover this time are Eggert and Hasselhoff.
Each episode from syndicated season three is on this set. Each syndicated episode on the set runs approx. 43 minutes or more (except "Blindside" which runs 42:41), and has the "Next on Baywatch" episode preview for each episode. The content is unedited I believe, but again some of the music is missing according to the box. And you don't need the box to tell you that the opening theme has again been replaced. Like I mentioned on my last review, a theme called "All My Life" or something like that is the theme instead. Some good episodes include "Race Against Time, Parts 1 and 2," "Lover's Cove," "Tentacles Parts 1 and 2," "Coronado Del Sol, Parts 1 and 2," "Mirror, Mirror," and "Rescue Bay." The menu screen has Episodes & Set Up, with the replacement theme song in the background. We are greeted with a wave before the main menu starts and also when we select an option a wave transition is in effect. Four chapters are on each episode, and there are also scene selections. The video and audio are both very good. The extras are decent and are on disc five, like we had on the previous sets. Extras are: a Baywatch Through the Years photo gallery, two NBC network episodes: "Second Wave" (46:13) & "Message in a bottle" (47:47), and featurette called "Picking Up the Pieces" in which the creators (Michael Berk, Doug Schwartz, and Greg Bonann) again talk about the show with each other. Syndicated seasons 2 and 3 are my favorite, maybe because Eggert is in it, but the stories in this season (and the previous season too), are wonderful. Like I mentioned last time, I am not sure if I can recommend this set for diehards. Diehards will be upset about the music replacement and the wonderful original theme that is missing. If you are a new or casual fan, then I do highly recommend to pick up this set. So, after you make your decision and if you want to buy it, you can buy it from us at a discount price below.
