2014 SITCOMS ON DVD PREVIEW
Shout! Factory released the Complete Series (read our review) back on October 25, 2011. They are now continuing with the individual season releases. The 3-disc set runs contains 23 episodes and runs approximately 555 minutes. It has a SRP of $24.97. Season four featured the final regular episodes of Abe Vigoda until he returned for one episode in the seventh season.
Airing on ABC primetime from 1974-1982 and seen by millions, Barney Miller is a situation comedy television series set in a NYC police station in Greenwich Village. Captain Barney Miller (Hal Linden) is the kind of cop we'd all like to meet. He somehow manages to maintain order over a group of inner-city detectives who gamble for a hobby, get hit on by anything in skirts, go to renaissance philosophy conventions for fun, and would really prefer to be writing. These colorful characters worked together to make one of the funniest sitcoms ever and is cemented in classic TV status.
The Warner Archive Collection releases the third and final season as a manufactured-on-demand (MOD) release. The set has a SRP of $34.95. It contains the final 23 episodes of the series and has a running time of approximately 586 minutes.
The third and final season of the beloved TV classic brings with it some new faces (comedy greats Anne Meara and Jerry Stiller in a series of roles), new fears (Summer camp! Karate! Fetching Soviets!) and new foes (Eight is Enough's Willie Aames taking up the "best frenemy" role previously enjoyed by Jodie Foster). But the show still delivers its sitcom-changing mix of maturity, tenderness and laughs thanks to the evident bond enjoyed by series stars Bill Bixby and Brandon Cruz and the comedic support from series creator James Komack and series regular Kristina Holland as Norman Tinker and Tina Rickles.
Adding to the razzmatazz is one very special guest-star, Sammy Davis Jr. as Ronnie Rivers Jr. a phobia-filled insurance adjuster. Other guests include Carol Lawrence (the aforementioned sexy Soviet), All in the Family's Sally Struthers, Alice's Vic Tayback, Columbo's Bruce Kirby and One Day at a Time's Pat Harrington Jr.
Shout! Factory releases the Fifth and Final Season of Hazel. The 4-disc set contains the final 29 episodes of the season and runs approximately 720 minutes. it has a SRP of $34.93. The final season saw a change in format. Don DeFore and Whitney Blake left the series. Ray Fulmer, Lynn Borden and Julia Benjamin joined the cast.
Oscar®- and Emmy® Award-winner Shirley Booth is back and ready to whip a whole new family into shape in the fifth and final season of the classic sitcom.
After George is transferred to the Middle East and takes Dorothy along, Hazel and Harold move in with George's brother, his wife Barbara and their daughter Susie. It’s not long before Barbara and Hazel butt heads after Hazel demonstrates her ability to take over the household as an efficient maid.
The incomparable Shirley Booth stars as TV’s original wisecracking maid, with Ray Fulmer (The Rogues), Lynn Borden (Frogs), Bobby Buntrock (The Virginian) and Julia Benjamin (The Rockford Files) as the family in her care.
Shout! Factory released the Complete Series (read our review) on July 2, 2013. Season Two will arrive individually on a 5-disc set that contains 36 episodes and runs approximately 865 minutes. It has a SRP of $29.93.
Our heroes Dobie Gillis (Dwayne Hickman) and Maynard G. Krebs (Bob Denver) are drafted into the army upon graduating from high school! But that doesn't stop Dobie from pursuing the girl of his dreams - in fact, ANY girl. Any girl, that is, except the nagging, pestering Zelda (Sheila James), who continues to go to any length to prove that she and Dobie are meant for each other, including helping him write a song to win another teen's heart!
Meanwhile, Dobie's new rich and snobby rival, Chatsworth Osborne, Jr. (Steve Franken) constantly interferes with Dobie's conquests by luring the young ladies away with money and expensive gifts. Guest stars include John Banner, Norman Fell, Jo Anne Worley, and Yvonne Craig.
Mill Creek re-releases the first and second seasons of Bewitched. The episodes are "proudly presented classic black & white" - their original format. The 3-disc sets have a SRP of $14.98. Seasons 1 and 2 will also be sold together as a bundle.

This magical 6 DVD collection includes the Emmy Award-winning first & second seasons in their entirety. These were the first 74 episodes that introduced one of the funniest ensemble casts in TV History and enchanted viewers with a hysterically look at the lifestyles of the witch and famous!

Seasons 1 and 2 will also be sold together as a bundle.
When the Huxtables hit the airwaves for the first time in 1984, they created an instant sensation that rejuvenated and changed prime-time television forever. From their brownstone in Brooklyn, Cliff and Clair Huxtable watched over their family with style, wit and wisdom, not to mention a whole lot of laughs. The values they represented clearly struck a nerve with the public as the show was an instant success - never out of the top 20 in the ratings, and one of only two shows to hold TV's #1 spot for five years in a row.
Mill Creek re-releases the first and second seasons of Good Times. The sets have a SRP of $9.98. Seasons One and Two will also be sold together as a bundle.
The Good Times are back! Relive the '70s sitcom smash from producer Norman Lear and executive producer Bud Yorkin. A spin-off of Maude, which was itself a spin-off of All In The Family, Good Times first aired in February 1974 and viewers of all races and ages instantly connected with the Evans family.
Money was scarce, but laughs and love were abundant for Florida (Esther Rolle), her hardworking husband James (John Amos), and their three kids living in the projects of South Side Chicago. From the outrageous antics of budding artist J.J., to the romantic dramas of sister Thelma and pint-sized Michael's activist causes, these parents had their hands full.
Adding to the fun was next-door neighbor, sassy divorcee Willona, who would later in the series adopt a young daughter, Penny, played by superstar Janet Jackson! Tackling topical, sometimes even controversial, subject matter with wit and sensitivity, Good Times was a breakthrough series in many ways. Now you can revive your inner jive with this "Dyn-O-Mite" 3 DVD collection!
The Warner Archive Collection releases the 1971-72 series. The set has a SRP of $29.95. It contains all 24 episodes and has a running time of approximately 606 minutes.

Jim and wife Martha are busy raising an eight-year-old, as is their twenty-nine-year-old first born, Peter (James Daly) and his wife, Wendy (Ellen Geer). And "Uncle Teddy" (Dennis Larson) is sure to demand "the proper respect" from his five-day-older nephew, Jake (Kirby Furlong). Mayberry R.F.D. is a spin-off and direct continuation of The Andy Griffith Show under a new title, for the same sponsor, General Foods. When Andy Griffith decided to leave his series, most of the supporting characters returned for the new program, which ran for three seasons (78 episodes) on the CBS Television Network from 1968–1971. During the final season of The Andy Griffith Show, widower farmer Sam Jones (Ken Berry) and his young son Mike (Buddy Foster) are introduced and gradually become the show's focus. Sheriff Andy Taylor takes a backseat in the storylines, establishing the sequel series. The show's first episode, "Andy and Helen's Wedding," had the highest ratings in recorded television history (up to premiere date in 1968). Sheriff Taylor and newlywed wife Helen make guest appearances on RFD until late 1969, and then relocate with Opie. Mayberry RFD was popular throughout its entire run!

2014 Wish List:
This is my wish list for 2014. Some of them probably have slim to no chance of ever being available, but I still have hope for them someday. None of these titles have been officially announced.
According to Jim - Seasons 3-5 were released in 2011. Could we see the final 3 seasons released in 2014? It has been stalled it seems.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet - A fundraising project by Sam Nelson to get the show restored and complete on DVD raised over $32,000.
Alice - The third and fourth seasons were released in 2013. Hopefully there is more to come in 2014.
Archie Bunker's Place - A complete series boxed set would be nice to go along with All in the Family - The Complete Series.
Baby Daddy - This series is still not out on DVD. It is very popular on ABC Family and hopefully we get its first season in 2014.
Becker - The fifth season was released in July. Only one season is left to finish the series.
Benson - Season Two was in 2012. Hopefully more seasons will be available in the future.
Blossom - I'm surprised that it hasn't been available as a Shout! Factory Select title like Mr. Belvedere. Seasons 1-2 were released way back in January 2009. Mill Creek released a "best of" set in October 2010.
The Bob Newhart Show - We are still patiently waiting for the fifth and sixth seasons to be released. There have been many talks in the past, but nothing has been announced yet. RIP Marcia Wallace.
Brooklyn Bridge - There were rumors of a release in 2010 by the show's creator Gary David Goldberg (RIP), but it never materialized.
California Dreams - Only Season 5 remains to be released.
Coach - Season 4 was released in March 2011. Maybe we will see another season this year.
Dave's World - Only Seson 4 is left to complete the series.
Diff'rent Strokes - Shout! Factory released the third and fourth seasons in 2012. Hopefully they will release more seasons at some point. RIP Conrad Bain.
8 Simple Rules - We are still waiting for the third and final season.
Eight Is Enough - The third and four seasons were released in 2013. Only the fifth season is left to complete the series.
The Facts of Life - Mill Creek is re-releasing the first season. No ne seasons have been released since 2010.
Fish - Shout! Factory included the first season in the Barney Miller - The Complete Series release. It would be great to see the second season as well.
George Lopez - The third season was released in July. More seasons are needed. Sheow!
Growing Pains - The third season was released in May. One season a year would be fine.
Happy Days - It has been a long wait for the fifth season. Laverne & Shirley has continued to be released. Even Joanie Loves Chachi is getting a release, but where is Happy Days?
The Hogan Family - Music clearance issues seem to be the reason for no DVD releases at this point.
Hope & Faith - Season 1 was released several years ago, but we are still waiting on Seasons 2-3 from Lionsgate.
I'm Dickens...He's Fenster - We're still waiting for the second volume of this lost gem.
It's Your Move - It would make an ideal 3-disc set from Shout! Factory. A cult classic that would be a popular release.
Last Man Standing - We're into season three and still no DVD releases for this show at all. Very strange.
Laverne & Shirley - Only the eighth season is left to be released. If the recent release pattern holds, it will be available in 2015.
Less Than Perfect - Season 1 was released in September 2010. Hopefully this underrated series will have more seasons available at some point.
Mad About You - Seasons 6-7 are still needed to complete the series.
Mr. Belvedere - We're just waiting on Seasons 5-6 to complete the series.
Mister Ed - Season 5 was released as a Shout! Select title in 2011. Only Season 6 remains to complete the series.
Mork & Mindy - Mork calling CBS DVD... come in CBS DVD... We only need the fourth season to complete the series. RIP Jonathan Winters.
My Three Sons - Only Seasons 1-2 have been released. Unfortunately, many CBS DVD/Paramount series have been stalled for years.
My Two Dads - Only the third season remains to be released to complete the series.
My Wife and Kids - Only Seasons 1-2 have been released.
Out of This World - Volume 1 was released in Germany in November 2011. Will we see a U.S. release at some point?
Parker Lewis Can't Lose - Seasons 1 and 2 have been released. We're just waiting on the third season to complete the series.
Perfect Strangers - We're still waiting for the third season. We desperately need more Balki!
The Phil Silvers Show/Sgt. Bilko - It's another stalled CBS DVD/Paramount series.
Please Don't Eat the Daisies - As we reported in October 2012, Warner Archive hopes to bring it to DVD once some music issues are cleared and the episodes are remastered.
Rhoda - There were three seasons released in 2010. It's frustrating to be missing only one season to complete the series.
Silver Spoons - It would make a great Shout! Factory Select title.
Small Wonder - Seasons 1-2 have been released. Seasons 3-4 are still needed to complete the series.
Welcome Back, Kotter - It has been a long wait to see more of the Sweathogs.
Webster - Only the fifth and sixth seasons are left to complete the series. RIP Henry Polic II.
The Wonder Years - The first season had only six episodes. It could be given a trial run. Music licensing rights are a major issue, but hopefully a company like Shout! Factory could work on this set. It has been the #1 most requested unreleased show at TVShowsonDVD.com by a wide margin for many years.

The I LOVE LUCY CHRISTMAS SPECIAL features “The Christmas Episode” and the newly colorized “Lucy Gets in Pictures.” Both were colorized with a vintage look, a nod to the 1950s period in which the shows were filmed. The main titles and end credits of the two episodes are seamlessly combined into one set at the beginning and end of the hour, with no interruption between the episodes.
“The Christmas Episode” finds the Ricardos and Mertzes decorating Lucy and Ricky’s Christmas tree and reminiscing about how their lives have changed since the arrival of the Ricardos’ son, Little Ricky (Keith Thibodeaux). Flashbacks recall the night Lucy tells Ricky she is pregnant, the time Lucy shows up unexpectedly as part of a barbershop quartet and the day Ricky and the Mertzes rehearse taking Lucy to the maternity ward.
“The Christmas Episode” was first broadcast on CBS in December 1956. The episode was not included in the series’ long history of rebroadcasts, first on CBS Daytime and later in syndication. Thought to be lost, CBS rediscovered the episode in 1989.
In the newly colorized “Lucy Gets in Pictures,” Lucy’s lifelong dream of appearing in a motion picture seems to have come true when Ricky arranges for her to play a showgirl in a new musical. Unfortunately, the enormous feathered headdress she is expected to wear as she descends a staircase proves to be too cumbersome. After numerous mishaps on the stairs, the musical’s frustrated director (Lou Krugman) decides to make a change.
“Lucy Gets in Pictures” was originally broadcast Feb. 21, 1955, and was an immediate favorite not only of viewers, but of Lucille Ball herself. She restaged the famous headdress scene, again with Krugman, in the 1962 CBS special, “Opening Night,” and in 1965 in a slightly modified form, this time with actor Danny Thomas, in her second CBS series, “The Lucy Show.”
