Netflix Announces God's Favorite Idiot Release Date; TV Stars Join Freeform's Cruel Summer Season 2

God's Favorite Idiot, a new Netflix comedy series, from creator Ben Falcone now has a premiere date! The 8 episode series premieres Wednesday, June 15, 2022. Clark Thompson (Ben Falcone) is a mid-level tech support employee, who takes saunas with his dad, Gene (Kevin Dunn), pines after his co-worker Amily (Melissa McCarthy), and loves his cats. When he starts to glow, he begins to realize this isn't an average day at the office and God has bigger plans for him. Clark can't save mankind by himself, he must gather his flock of mismatched co-workers, his longtime crush Amily and angelic allies to outwit Satan herself (Leslie Bibb). Together, they're just a bunch of average humans coming together for the greater good because, after all, you can't save the world alone. The series stars Ben Falcone, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Bibb, Kevin Dunn, Usman Ally, Steve Mallory, Chris Sandiford, Ana Scotney, and Yanic Truesdale.

Freeform's Cruel Summer returns as an anthology with a fresh mystery and cast (including three stars from Private Practice and a Goldbergs star) when its highly anticipated second season premieres later this year. Executive produced by Emmy(R) Award nominee Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple (The Sinner, Candy) through Iron Ocean Productions and from studio eOne, the first season of Cruel Summer, starring Oliva Holt and Chiara Aurelia, was a critical and ratings smash, making it Freeform's most-watched series in network history. Set in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest, the next chapter of Cruel Summer follows the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship. Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan, Isabella and Megan's best friend Luke, the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward.

Sadie Stanley (The Goldbergs) will star as Megan Landry, a computer coder and honor student from a blue-collar family. Once Megan meets Isabella, she begins to live in the moment and embrace her true self. When events take a tragic turn, her long-held dreams are dashed, and she is left wondering who she can trust. Eloise Payet portrays the alluring and enigmatic Isabella, the daughter of foreign diplomats, who is spending a year as an exchange student with the Landry family. She quickly shakes up life in this small town, but her charm can't hide the truth about her past or the real reason she came to live with the Landrys forever.

Griffin Gluck (Locke & Key, Private Practice) plays Luke Chambers, Megan's lifelong best friend from a prominent family. Over time, Luke finds himself at a crossroads as he tries to establish his own place in the world, separate from the expectations of his powerful father. KaDee Strickland (Private Practice) stars as Debbie, Megan's hardworking single mom who thinks hosting Isabella will open Megan's eyes to a bigger world than their small town. Lisa Yamada (Little Fires Everywhere) is Parker, a popular musician who becomes more cynical as the world takes a dark turn around her. Sean Blakemore (Greenleaf) will play Sheriff Myer, an old-fashioned law-and-order type, under pressure to solve the first major crime in Chatham. Paul Adelstein (True Story) will recur as Steve Chambers, Luke's high-profile dad, whose influence in town is far-reaching.

HBO Max Acquires Exclusive SVOD Streaming Rights to The Middle; Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone Get Netflix Sitcom

HBO Max has secured exclusive U.S. SVOD streaming rights to all nine seasons of the acclaimed family comedy The Middle, with a total of 215 episodes available to stream now. Two-time Emmy® winner Patricia Heaton stars in this warm and witty single-camera comedy about raising a family and lowering your expectations. Middle-aged, middle class, and living in the middle of the country in Orson, Indiana, Frankie Heck (Heaton) is a harried wife and mother of three who uses her wry wit and sense of humor to get her family through each day intact. Frankie works as a dental assistant, and her unflappable husband Mike is manager at the local quarry and her sardonic partner in the daily grind that is raising their average — yes, most definitely average — family. Between juggling shifts and picking up fast food to be eaten in front of the TV, Frankie and Mike raise their kids — popular slacker Axl; optimistic, awkward Sue; odd, eccentric Brick — with love, humor and solid midwestern pragmatism. Year after year, their struggles continue, but through all the madness shines a loving family — and together, the Hecks put The Middle on the map.

Debuting in 2009 on ABC, the series won the esteemed HUMANITAS Prize in 2016 and was also nominated for multiple Critics Choice Awards throughout its run.

Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone will star in God's Favorite Idiot, a Netflix comedy series about Clark Thompson (Falcone), a mid-level tech support employee who finds love with co-worker Amily Luck (McCarthy) at exactly the same time he becomes the unwitting messenger of God. The series is created by Falcone, who will also EP alongside McCarthy. Netflix has ordered 16 episodes of this comedy, with a premiere date to be announced.
