SitcomsOnline Digest: CBS to Air Second Season of Yellowstone; Showtime Getting Out of Sports Business

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! It's a bit of a slow week (and the SAG-AFTRA strike is on, but there are no developments in resolving it this week), but we're here with news about what CBS is doing to fill those gaps created by the strike, news of a late night talk show that is already on hiatus (for non-strike related reasons), and more. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB

  • Airing the first season of Yellowstone was such a success for CBS that they'll be airing the second season now as well. (Deadline)
  • Just as soon as everybody was getting all excited about all of the late night talk shows returning to TV, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is already on hiatus due to Colbert testing positive for COVID. (Deadline)
  • When premium cable channels debuted in the 1980s, boxing was a huge draw for them, but now that aspect is coming to an end as Showtime has announced that they're getting out of the boxing business, just as HBO did a few years ago. (Deadline)
  • Bally Sports, the group of regional sports channels that used to be known as Fox Sports, has recently shutdown one channel and the entire group is on the verge of collapsing, so what would happen to the sports they air if that does happen? (Cord Cutters News)
  • Apple TV+ has cancelled The Problem with Jon Stewart, and a lot of it has to do with some controversial topics that he wanted to address, particularly regarding artificial intelligence. (The Verge)
  • Actress Suzanne Somers has died. (SitcomsOnline)

WEEKLY PLANNER (OCTOBER 21 - OCTOBER 27)

  • Catchy Comedy is having a binge of The Three Stooges this weekend.
  • South Park: Joining the Panderverse comes to Paramount+ on Friday.
  • If you're in the holiday movie mood already, Hallmark and GAC Family are already in full swing.
  • There's a new Nickelodeon 90s Kids channel available on Pluto TV, with all of the 90s favorites.
