Chris Rock Live Comedy Special Set for Netflix; Hulu Renews This Fool for Season 2
Netflix announced that legendary comedian, writer, director and actor Chris Rock will be the first artist to perform live on Netflix for the company's first-ever live, global streaming event. The comedy special is set to stream in early 2023. Additional details will be announced at a later date. This is Rock's second Netflix stand-up special. His first, Chris Rock: Tamborine, debuted in February 2018. The live event builds on Netflix's legacy of leadership in live comedy. Netflix is a Joke: The Festival was the biggest live, in-person event in Netflix history, taking place in Spring 2022. The unprecedented event sold more than 260,000 tickets, featuring more than 330 comedians performing 295 shows across more than 35 venues in Los Angeles. The festival also featured the first-ever stand-up show at Dodger Stadium.
Hulu Original comedy series This Fool, which hails from ABC Signature, has been renewed for a second season with ten episodes. The first season premiered on August 12 and all ten episodes are now streaming on Hulu. This Fool is written and executive produced by Chris Estrada, Pat Bishop, Jake Weisman and Matt Ingebretson. Jonathan Groff and Fred Armisen also serve as executive producers on the series. This Fool is an irreverent, cinematic half-hour comedy set in working class South Central Los Angeles. The show centers around Julio Lopez, a 30-year-old who still lives at home, has been dating his girlfriend on and off since high school, and finds any excuse to avoid dealing with his own problems. Julio works at Hugs Not Thugs, a gang rehabilitation non-profit, where he butts heads with his older cousin Luis, an ex-gang member who just got out of prison and moved in with Julio and his family.
Season One Cast: Chris Estrada ("Julio"), Frankie Quiñones ("Luis"), Laura Patalano ("Esperanza"), Michelle Ortiz ("Maggie"), Julia Vera ("Maria") and Michael Imperioli ("Minister Payne").
