NBC Schedules Two Series for Early Fall; Unaired black-ish Episode Now on Hulu

Transplant, the hit Canadian drama set to make its mark with U.S. audiences, will premiere Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC following a live telecast of America's Got Talent. The 13-episode series will run through Dec. 8 and centers on Dr. Bashir "Bash" Hamed, a Syrian doctor with battle-tested skills in emergency medicine who fled his country with his younger sister, Amira. Together they struggle to build a new life in Canada as Bash strives to rebuild his career in medicine. This means New Amsterdam will not return in the Fall, due to production issues related to COVID-19 pandemic. It is expected to return in early 2021. Transplant stars Hamza Haq (Quantico), Laurence Leboeuf (The Disappearance), John Hannah (Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Jim Watson (Mary Kills People) and Ayisha Issa (Polar).

Elsewhere, Season 12 of NBC's athletic competition series American Ninja Warrior will finally premiere Monday, Sept. 7 with a two-hour episode beginning at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Production for the eight-episode series took place in St. Louis at the Dome at America's Center. American Ninja Warrior is the first NBC series to have completed a full season of episodes during the current pandemic. The series is slated to air through Oct. 12 and could air on multiple nights in late September/early October. This also means The Voice will not start in the Fall until at least October 19 when Ninja Warrior wraps. With scripted series likely delayed, NBC could bulk up on alternative series in the fall with series such as Ellen's Game of Games and Ninja Warrior until scripted series return. No word on the status of other NBC scripted staples like Manifest, Blacklist, Law & Order: SVU, Superstore and This Is Us, but they will likely be delayed until mid-October at the earliest.

A controversial black-ish episode that was going to air in 2018 but was pulled, is now finally available to watch. The episode titled "Please, Baby, Please," description is as follows: Dre is on baby duty for the night during a storm, and the household is wide awake. He decides to read a crying Devante a bedtime story, but when that doesn't do the trick, Dre tosses it aside and begins to tell a story of his own about the current state of the country in a way Devante will understand, on a special episode. It never aired on ABC, but now ABC Studios has put it up on Hulu to view. View the message from creator Kenya Barris on this episode.
