Rare Gems on getTV for Black History Month; Showtime Comedy Pilot Brings Out the Stars
This month, getTV is commemorating Black History Month with a salute the 20th Century's pioneers who triumphantly overcame societal barriers and paved the way for today's generation of artists and entertainers in the areas of drama, comedy and music. On Sunday, February 18 at 7:30PM ET/6:30 C, getTV will air the first two episodes of Palmerstown, USA, a 17-episode family drama series from 2017 Kennedy Center honoree, producer Norman Lear (All in the Family, Sanford and Son, Good Times), and Roots' author Alex Haley that has not been shown on television in decades. Among the cast members of this Depression-era tale, set in the South, is a pre-Family Ties Michael J. Fox and guest stars include Academy Award winners Morgan Freeman, Louis Gossett, Jr. (who received an Emmy nomination for Best Lead Actor in a Dramatic Series for Palmerstown, USA), Danny Glover, David Caruso and Academy Award nominees Beah Richards and Alfre Woodard. Following its special primetime preview on February 18, getTV will broadcast Palmerstown, U.S.A every Sunday at 12:30PM ET/11:30AM C, starting on February 25.
For night owls, this month getTV has devoted its 'Get Lost in TV' late night block to these legends every Sunday beginning at midnight with a mix of variety specials and notable sitcom episodes. Sunday, February 11 was devoted to shows featuring groundbreaking comedians such as Redd Foxx, Paul Mooney, Moms Mabley and Dick Gregory. getTV's February 18 lineup features programs with trailblazing musical entertainers Sammy Davis Jr. and Lena Horne, along with Lola Falana, Dionne Warwick and Whitney Houston. On February 25, getTV celebrates Motown with specials starring the Jackson 5, Diana Ross & the Supremes, Smokey Robinson, Temptations and Stevie Wonder.
Regina Hall (Girls Trip) and Paul Scheer (The Disaster Artist, The League) are set to join the cast of the Showtime half-hour comedy pilot Ball Street. Starring Emmy(R) nominated and Golden Globe-winning actor Don Cheadle (Avengers: Infinity War) and two-time Tony Award nominee and Grammy(R) winner Andrew Rannells (Girls, The Intern), Ball Street is directed and executive produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The pilot, which has also added Kurt Braunohler (The Big Sick) and Eugene Cordero (Kong: Skull Island), is created by David Caspe (Happy Endings) and Jordan Cahan (My Best Friend's Girl), who also serve as executive producers and showrunners. Casey Wilson (Happy Endings) will guest star as Tiff, Blair's (Rannells) girlfriend who appreciates the finer things in life that Blair's new job may not provide. Reuniting with Happy Endings and Marry Me producers Caspe and Cahan, Wilson will recur if the show goes to series. Production is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles this week. The pilot is a co-production of Showtime and Sony Pictures Television Studios.
Ball Street takes us back to October 19, 1987 - aka Black Monday - one of the worst stock market crashes in the history of Wall Street. To this day, no one knows who or what caused it. Ball Street is the story of how a bunch of fearless underdogs took on the blue-blood, old-boys club of Wall Street. Among the intrepid traders who make up the group led by Cheadle's character are Dawn (Hall), the no-nonsense head of trading and the only woman on the team, along with Keith (Scheer) and Ronnie (Cordero). Braunohler appears as Ty Daverman, a vice president at Morgan Stanley.
