SitcomsOnline Digest: Game of Thrones Leads Emmy Nominations; New Beverly Hillbillies DVDs Coming in October
- The full list of Emmy nominees is out, and of course, Game of Thrones leads it yet again, while Modern Family is finding itself shut out from the major awards (though it did get some minor nominations) for the first time ever. (NPR)
- With HBO leading the nominations for Emmys, as well as streaming services such as Netflix in the game now too, some are left to wonder if broadcast dramas will ever get their Emmy recognition again. (Deadline)
- The week just wouldn't be right without more Roseanne news, and this week, we learned that the series scored two Emmy nominations (although neither were for the star herself). (CNN)
- The Mad About You reboot idea that was being thrown around a few weeks ago "probably won't happen" according to star Paul Reiser. (Vulture)
- The FCC is considering putting an end to the requirement for broadcast networks to air educational/informational programming. (Broadcasting & Cable)
- Netflix has ordered a new comedy starring Christina Applegate. (SitcomsOnline)
HOME MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS
- It's been one of the longest and drawn out paths for any sitcom to arrive on DVD, but CBS is moving forward with The Beverly Hillbillies finally, as The Beverly Hillbillies - The Official Fifth Season is set to arrive on DVD on October 2.
HOME MEDIA RELEASES (JULY 17)
- Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life - The Complete Series (DVD, $29.95): This very short-lived series that aired on Fox in the 2016-2017 season arrives on DVD with this MOD release.
- The Good Place - The Complete Second Season (DVD, $19.97): Shout! Factory brings the second season of the NBC series to DVD in this release.
- Son of Zorn - The Complete Series (DVD, $29.95): Another short-lived (though slightly more memorable) series that aired on Fox arrives in this MOD release.
WEEKLY PLANNER (JULY 14 - JULY 20)
- Trial & Error returns to NBC on Thursday night with the new season, Trial & Error: Lady Killer.
- A new Antenna TV lineup starts on Monday, with new additions including What's Happening Now!! and Archie Bunker's Place.
- Antenna TV will also be airing a special marathon on Sunday of episodes of sitcoms that included musical guest star.
- Decades will be airing Greatest American Hero all weekend long.
