SitcomsOnline Digest: VH1 Classic Celebrates SNL Anniversary with 19 Day Marathon; Dan Harmon Talks Season Six of Community; The Nanny Complete Series DVD News

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! This week, we've got news about a marathon that will be even longer than FXX's Every Simpsons Ever marathon, news about the new season of Community, and a few complete series announcements. Let's get going!

  • Saturday Night Live is 40 years old this year, and VH1 Classic is celebrating the series with a 19 day marathon (seven days longer than FXX's Every Simpsons Ever marathon) that will feature just over half of the episodes of the series. (Hollywood Reporter)
  • We reported earlier this week that the sixth season of Community would debut on Yahoo! Screen in March, and Dan Harmon has comments on what will be different (or not so different) about this new season. (Deadline)
  • It has been almost a year since NBC announced their NBC Playground, which is a contest for aspiring talents who wants to produce a NBC sitcom to get a chance to see their series on the air. Now, finalists have been announced. (Deadline)
  • Eva Longoria could be appearing on NBC next season, as the network has given a 13 episode order to a single-camera sitcom starring Longoria, called Telenovela. (Hollywood Reporter)

  • If you're a sitcom fan, Shout! Factory is most likely doing some damage to your budget each and every month with their complete series releases. April is no exception, as they prepare to release The Nanny - The Complete Series.
  • CBS will be releasing Frasier - The Complete Series on DVD for the very first time in a "complete series" form on April 7.
  • Also on April 7, CBS will issue a new release of The Brady Bunch - The Complete Series, although it will not include the bonus disc that was included in the original release.

Claim to Fame: With last week's release of The Facts of Life - The Complete Series and featuring of Mindy Cohn last week (and Lisa Whelchel in the past as well), it only seemed fitting to feature another star from the series this week. Kim Fields actually got her start on another sitcom, Baby, I'm Back, which starred Demond Wilson, Denise Nicholas, and Helen Martin. But it was The Facts of Life that she was best known for, where she played Tootie for the entire run. She was also fortunate enough to be a sitcom star as an adult in the series Living Single, where she remained for all five seasons of that series as well. These days, she occasionally continues to act, but has turned much of her talent into directing episodes of TV series.
