SitcomsOnline Digest: Network Development Season Means Lots of Remakes; Guest Hosts for The Late Late Show Post-Craig Ferguson

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! We have a bit of a slow news week this week since it was only a three (if not two) day work week for many out there. But nonetheless, we're here with our weekly feature, with an update on the network development season, plans for The Late Late Show post-Craig Ferguson, and more. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
  • As the network development season marches on, it should come as no surprise that the big thing that the networks are banking on next season is remakes of movies and series from the past. (Deadline)
  • Fox is looking into making a single camera sitcom based upon the comic strip Jump Start. (Deadline)
  • CBS is taking a somewhat unusual approach for The Late Late Show to fill the gap after current host Craig Ferguson leaves and incoming host James Corden arrives, and it involves having the series hosted by guests, including Drew Carey, Kunal Nayyar, Will Arnett, Sean Hayes, and (very oddly) John Mayer, as well as special "after dark" versions of the daytime series The Talk.   • While the name won't sound familiar to many in the United States, Mexican comedian Chespirito died over the weekend; it should be noted that the Simpsons character Bumblebee Man was based upon him. (The Guardian)
  • Selfie and Manhattan Love Story may be history, but that doesn't mean that you can't watch the remaining episodes, as ABC has plans to allow you to do just that (though not on the actual network). (SitcomsOnline)

  • Sony's release of Maude - The Complete First Season is now out-of-print, but for those who still want it, Mill Creek will be re-releasing it on February 3 (it isn't available to pre-order just yet).

    • Happy Days - The Sixth Season (DVD, $39.98): Richie, The Fonz, and the rest of the gang return for this release of the classic show on DVD.
    • The Simpsons - The Complete Seventeenth Season (DVD, $49.98; Blu-ray, $59.99): Sideshow Bob graces the cover of the latest release of The Simpsons on home media, which brings fans the 2005-2006 season along with plenty of special features.

    Who to Follow: Erin Murphy (Twitter) "Actress/ Television Host/ Writer/ Wife/ Mother of 6/ Autism Advocate/ Alpaca Rancher but BEST known for playing Tabitha on Bewitched!"
    Claim to Fame: Murphy's own description of herself on Twitter is very apt, as she has done a lot of things in her life... but to most of us, she was Tabitha on Bewitched. Along with her twin sister Diane, she shared the role on the series almost from the time she was born, but it wasn't long before Erin took on the role by herself. Since that time, she has appeared in TV commercials (not as much lately), game shows, reality shows, become an advocate for causes such as autism and the NOH8 campaign, and become a mom to six children. But most of all, as one of the youngest cast members on Bewitched (which also means that she is one of only a few cast members of the series still alive), she is the one person who will allow the legacy of Bewitched to be "immortal" and continue to live on for decades to come and also has a great friendship with other child (and sometimes older) stars of TV series of the past... and is even hoping to be part of an potential future sitcom!

    Graduation Day is quickly approaching, and Erica cannot wait to get out of the house, until it dawns on her how much Beverly’s love means to her. She attempts to delay her graduating so she can stay home. Later, Barry has plans for him and Lainey, but they turn to dust. Meanwhile, Dana makes a surprise visit just as Adam and Jackie officially become a couple.

    Speechless - "C-A-- CAMP" (ABC, 8:30PM ET/PT) (Repeat)
    As the family readies for their flight to JJ’s camp, Maya gets a surprise at the airport. Ray sees the summer as an opportunity to reinvent himself while Jimmy and Dylan turn the trip to camp into a father/daughter bonding moment.

    Modern Family - "The Graduates" (ABC, 9:00PM ET/PT) (Repeat)
    Manny’s father, Javier (guest-star Benjamin Bratt), shows up for his graduation and takes him out on a wild night of celebration, and then Jay steps in to pick-up the pieces. Meanwhile, the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker clan is getting ready for Luke and Manny’s big day and dealing with the emotions that come with seeing your kids grow up and leave the nest.

    American Housewife - "Can't Hide It Anymore" (ABC, 9:30PM ET/PT) (Repeat)
    Katie has been avoiding the mandatory volunteer hours at her kids’ schools all year. But when the other moms pressure her, she hits on a genius excuse after wearing a fake pregnancy “empathy” bump leads everyone to think she is pregnant. But things soon get out of hand after her former frenemies plan a baby shower for her.

    Swedish Dicks - (Pop, 8:00PM ET/PT)
    Ingmar and Axel get asked to find the breeding ram, Russel Crowe, but before they can start, Ingmar gets picked up by the FBI. Axel calls Sarah to ask her help Ingmar, while he himself continues to look for the missing animal. The situation looks grim for Ingmar, but the FBI seems to be willing to offer him a dangerous deal.

    Swedish Dicks - (Pop, 8:30PM ET/PT)
    A number of incidents convince Ingmar that he has to move back to Sweden. Sun is quick to take his place in the agency, but before Ingmar has time to leave, they get a case where his own daughter seems to be in danger. When it hits the fan, they all get dragged into the mess - in their most dangerous case to date - leading them towards Ingmar's mysterious past.

    You're the Worst - "This Is Just Marketing" (FXX, 10:00PM ET/PT)
    Jimmy learns that his literary novel is being marketed as erotica. While doing Vernon's podcast, Gretchen realizes she's been letting Jimmy off easy. When Edgar and Lindsay babysit Tallulah, Lindsay learns for the first time that she's capable of love and Edgar tries a new technique to pick up women.
