Writer, director and producer Gary Menteer, who worked on Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Punky Brewster and Family Matters, has died. He died on January 18 at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, California. Mr. Menteer was 76.

Menteer directed episodes of Laverne & Shirley, Punky Brewster, She's the Sheriff, Family Matters and Malcolm & Eddie. He worked as a choreographer on two episodes of Blansky's Beauties and the "Be My Valentine" episode of Happy Days.

His sitcom writing credits included Joanie Loves Chachi, Second Chance, Punky Brewster, On Our Own, Built to Last, Family Matters, Malcolm & Eddie and Eve.

He served as an executive producer for Family Matters from 1990 to 1998. His other producing credits included Blansky's Beauties, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Joanie Loves Chachi, Second Chance, Punky Brewster, On Our Own, and Malcolm & Eddie.

He shared two Emmy nominations for Punky Brewster for Outstanding Children's Program in 1985 and 1986. He was interviewed for the E! True Hollywood Story on Punky Brewster in 2006.

Menteer worked as an actor in his earlier days. He appeared in musical films such as Bye Bye Birdie, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, Mary Poppins, Inside Daisy Clover, Finian's Rainbow, Hello, Dolly and Funny Lady. He performed in many musical variety shows such as The Judy Garland Show, The Danny Kaye Show, The Dean Martin Show and The Julie Andrews Hour.

Survivors include his husband, Joe Cvar, and his nephews and nieces David, Lisa, Diana, Lauri and Tara.

Mr. Menteer was a frequent collaborator of Garry Marshall. We thank him for the entertainment he brought us over the years. He will be greatly missed.

After Brett and Michelle nearly reached their breaking points, the season one finale of Togetherness saw Michelle kissing David while Brett was driving to Sacramento to declare his commitment to her. Season two reveals how the evening played out. Meanwhile, Michelle pushes ahead with her charter school plans as Brett looks for artistic inspiration. Following his big acting break, Alex returns from New Orleans reinvigorated. Tina presses herself to figure out what her life should look like. Through it all, this makeshift family continues to face the hilarity and anxieties of everyday life, while proving that they're truly at their best when they're together.

Created by Jay Duplass & Mark Duplass & Steve Zissis, the eight-episode sophomore season of comedy Togetherness debuts Sunday, Feb. 21 from 10:30-11:00 p.m. ET/PT, exclusively on HBO. Blending laughter and pathos, the comedy series follows four adults nearing 40, trying to balance both their relationships and their individual dreams. In addition to writer, director and producer Mark Duplass (The League), who stars as Brett Pierson, the cast of Togetherness includes Melanie Lynskey (Two and a Half Men) as Michelle Pierson, Amanda Peet (Sleeping with Other People) as Tina Morris, Steve Zissis (Baghead) as Alex Pappas and Abby Ryder Fortson (Transparent) as Sophie. Character actor Abe Vigoda, who was best known for his role as Detective Phil Fish in Barney Miller and its spinoff Fish, has died. He died on January 26 in his sleep at his daughter's home in Woodland Park, New Jersey. Mr. Vigoda was 94.

Vigoda landed the role of Detective Phil Fish in Barney Miller in 1975. Fish was the senior detective on the squad of the 12th Precinct station. He was crotchety, near retirement and always suffering through some physical ailment, such as bladder problems and hemorrhoids. Fish was frequently on the phone dealing with a minor marital crisis with his wife, Bernice (Florence Stanley).

Vigoda was a regular on the show for the first three seasons. He retired from the police force in the second episode of the fourth season, though he returned for two guest appearances later in season four and season seven. Vigoda received Emmy nominations for "Outstanding Continuing Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series" in 1976-1977 and "Outstanding Single Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Comedy or Drama Series" in 1978.

Fish was such a popular character that he got his own spinoff series in 1977. Fish aired on ABC for two seasons from 1977-1978. It presented the domestic side of Fish's life, as he and his wife served as foster parents for a number of troubled children who were PINS (Persons in Need of Supervision). The series starred Florence Stanley, Lenny Bari, Todd Bridges, John Cassisi, Denise Miller, Sarah Nataolio and Barry Gordon.

Some of his other television guest appearances included Dark Shadows, Mannix, The Rookies, Toma, Hawaii Five-0, Kojak, Cannon, The Bionic Woman, Vega$, The Rockford Files, Fantasy Island, B.J. and the Bear, Superboy, Santa Barbara, MacGyver, Murder, She Wrote, Diagnosis Murder and Law & Order. His sitcom guest appearances included Love, American Style, The Love Boat, Harper Valley, P.T.A., Weird Science, Wings, Mad About You and Norm.

His best-known film role was that of elder mobster Salvatore Tessio in Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather in 1972. He also appeared briefly in The Godfather Part II in a flashback sequence at the end of the film. Some of his other film credits included Newman's Law, The Cheap Detective, Cannonball Run II, Keaton's Cop, Look Who's Talking, Prancer, Joe Versus the Volcano, Sugar Hill, Jury Duty, Good Burger and Witness to the Mob.

Survivors include his daughter, Carol Vigoda Fuchs, three grandchildren, and a great-grandson.

Mr. Vigoda was a fine character actor. Fish was such a funny and memorable character. He lived a long, good life. He will be deeply missed.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will present the Life Achievement Award to comedic trailblazer, actor, singer, dancer, producer and author Carol Burnett live at the 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards(R). Burnett accepting SAG-AFTRA's highest accolade from Fey and Poehler will be a highlight of the annual SAG Awards ceremony, which will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016 at 8pm ET/5pm PT. Given annually to an actor who fosters the "finest ideals of the acting profession," including career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment, the Life Achievement Award will join Burnett's exceptional catalog of preeminent industry and public honors, which includes multiple Emmys(R), a special Tony(R), the Presidential Medal of Freedom and both a Kennedy Center Honor and its Mark Twain Prize for Humor.

Burnett becomes the 52nd recipient of the Life Achievement Award. These days the power of celebrity is often measured by their social media strength, and E! takes a unique, hilarious look at that reality with the network's first scripted digital comedy series Hashtaggers. Starring Kimberley Crossman, Peet Guercio, Patty Guggenheim and Carl Tart, the series features a completely dysfunctional group of people who work together at a social media agency geared to celebrity clientele - but their actions consistently wreak havoc on the stars involved. On Tuesday, February 8, E! News will sneak peek an episode of Hashtaggers, and then all nine episodes will be available on E! online and across E!'s social media platforms and distribution partners.

Where does Ian Ziering go when he needs to step up his digital game? Who does Snooki alert when two million Twitter followers go missing? When William Shatner needs an epic Twitter Rant who does he request? They call the Hashtaggers. The agency is run by Nikki Hart, an intense, yet often completely unprofessional leader, whose lust for her brainless assistant causes its own problems. Her team consists of: Kal Johnson (Tart), a trendy hipster who has made pop culture his life; Colin Greenberg (Guerico), an ex-child star who is still trying to make it as a grown-up; and Molly Scharf (Guggenheim), a sarcastic, free-spirit who has an odd sexual tension with Colin, no matter how much she can't stand him. This team will do anything to make their clients happy, but their techniques are far from professional. Other "clients" this season include: Will Sasso, Kevin Smith, Johnny Weir, Heidi Montag, Stassi Schroeder and Zuri Hall.

NBC has announced the premiere dates of three new midseason scripted series, plus the anticipated return of its summer hit comedy, The Carmichael Show. The launch strategy includes previews in proximity to The Voice for The Carmichael Show, Crowded, Heartbeat and Little Big Shots, the previously announced reality series about extraordinary kids hosted by Steve Harvey, who executive produces with Ellen DeGeneres. First up, sitcom The Carmichael Show, will have a preview episode Tuesday, March 8, 10:30pm before making its regular night & time premiere on Sunday, March 13, at 9pm with back-to-back episodes for week one. The March 8 preview episode of The Carmichael Show at 10:30pm will immediately follow a half-hour preview of Little Big Shots, which will be preceded by a two-hour episode of The Voice. The Steve Harvey series will air Sundays at 8pm into The Carmichael Show beginning March 13. The Carmichael Show will also have a Bill Cosby-themed episode this season that will likely be talked about everywhere after it airs.

Then two preview episodes of new sitcom Crowded will air Tuesday, March 15 from 10-11pm following The Voice, before moving to its regular night and time on Sunday, March 20 at 9:30pm following The Carmichael Show. From the executive producers of Hot in Cleveland and Grimm comes this very timely comedy that proves life is crazy with a full house, especially the second time around. After 20 years of parenting, empty nesters Mike (Patrick Warburton, Seinfeld) and Martina (Carrie Preston, True Blood) are finally reclaiming their wild side. But when both of their two grown daughters (Miranda Cosgrove, iCarly and Mia Serafino, Shameless) unexpectedly move back in and Mike's parents (Stacy Keach, NCIS: New Orleans and Carlease Burke, Switched at Birth) scratch their plans to spend their golden years in Florida, their roost is full again.

Next up, new drama Heartbeat will have a preview episode on Tuesday, March 22 at 9pm following The Voice, before moving to its regular night and time starting the next night on Wednesday, March 23 at 8pm. The drama is a character-driven medical series that follows the professional and personal life of world-renowned heart transplant surgeon Dr. Alex Panttiere (Melissa George, The Slap). There is nothing conventional about Dr. Panttiere, who is as cutting edge and unorthodox in the OR as she is with the two men in her life. Her approach to medicine is without boundaries, as is her approach to everything else in her world. Between Dr. Panttiere's hectic hospital life where she is caught between two brilliant but stubborn surgeons (Dave Annable and Don Hany) and her household of two kids and a gay rock star ex-husband (Joshua Leonard), Alex is constantly striving to overcome numerous daily obstacles and be the best mother and doctor possible. Jamie Kennedy, D.L. Hughley, Shelley Con, Maya Erskine, Joshua Leonard and JLouis Mills also star.

And finally, new drama Game of Silence will launch on Thursday, April 7 at 10pm following The Blacklist after the season of Shades of Blue ends. Jackson Brooks (David Lyons, Revolution) is a successful attorney who seems to have it all. AMC announced that David Schwimmer (American Crime Story, Band of Brothers, Friends) and Jim Sturgess (21, Across the Universe, Cloud Atlas) will star in the network's upcoming original series Feed the Beast. A co-production between AMC Studios and Lionsgate, based on the Danish series Bankerot, the series will be adapted by writer/showrunner Clyde Phillips (Dexter, Nurse Jackie), who also serves as executive producer. Feed the Beast is a drama about two best friends, Tommy Moran (Schwimmer), and Dion Patras (Sturgess) who take one last shot at their dream of opening a restaurant. Production will begin in New York City in February 2016 and the 10 one-hour episodes are set to premiere in May 2016. The drama tells the story of Tommy (Schwimmer) and Dion (Sturgess) who are like brothers. With all the love - and all the complications - that comes with it. Dion can't stay out of trouble. Tommy can't move past it. For two friends on the brink of losing everything, a dusty pipe dream of opening up an upscale restaurant in their hometown of the Bronx is all they have left to turn their lives around. They push each other to follow through on their dreams, welcome love into their lives, and overcome their demons. They also betray, backstab, manipulate and coerce each other into the most dangerous situations imaginable. For Tommy, a successful haute Hellenic restaurant is his means to give his son a life he never had. For Dion, this venture is a perfect opportunity to secretly repay his debt to the Mob. Together, they take on the insanity of the New York restaurant world, and navigate its underbelly of petty criminals, corrupt officials and violent mobsters.
