Apple TV+ Comedy The Afterparty Returns July 12; Abbott Elementary Season 2 Dominated Across All Platforms

Apple TV+ unveiled the trailer for the upcoming second season of its broadly acclaimed and global hit murder mystery comedy series, The Afterparty, from Academy Award-winning creators Chris Miller and Phil Lord. Premiering globally on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, the 10-episode second season of The Afterparty will introduce a new mystery, new characters and new episodes told through popular film genres. The Afterparty season two will make its global debut with the first two episodes, followed by one new episode every Wednesday through September 6, 2023.
Created by Miller, each episode of The Afterparty is a genre-bending comedy that explores a different character's account of one fateful evening, all told through the lens of popular film genres and unique visuals to match the storyteller's perspective. Stars Tiffany Haddish, Sam Richardson and Zoë Chao reprise their roles for season two, which will introduce a new case and an expanded cast of characters played by John Cho, Paul Walter Hauser, Ken Jeong, Anna Konkle, Poppy Liu, Elizabeth Perkins, Jack Whitehall, Zach Woods and Vivian Wu. In season two, a wedding is ruined when the groom is murdered and every guest is a suspect. Detective Danner (Haddish) returns to help Aniq (Richardson) and Zoë (Chao) solve whodunnit by questioning family members, star-crossed lovers and business partners, and hearing each suspect's retelling of the weekend, each with their own unique perspective and visual style.

After 35 days of viewing across linear and digital platforms, the second season of ABC's Abbott Elementary delivered 9.1 million Total Viewers and hit a 3.57 rating in Adults 18-49, marking the strongest season average for an ABC comedy since the 2019-2020 season. In its second season, Abbott Elementary jumped over its debut season by 12% in Total Viewers (9.1 million vs. 8.1 million) and by 30% among Adults 18-49 (3.57 rating vs. 2.74 rating). Abbott Elementary ranks as ABC's No. 1 multiplatform series this season among Adults 18-49 (3.57 rating). The sophomore ABC sitcom shot up more than 7 times over its initial Live+Same Day rating in Adults 18-49 (+614%) after 35 days of multiplatform viewing (0.50 rating to 3.57 rating) and picked up a massive +6.3 million Total Viewers (2.8 million to 9.1 million).

TCA Winter 2023 Press Tour: Apple TV+; HBO's Rain Dogs Premieres March 6

Yesterday at the 2023 Winter Television Critics Association press tour, Apple TV+ showcased a first look at the highly anticipated, second season of Schmigadoon!, the Emmy and AFI Award winning, hit musical comedy series from co-creator Cinco Paul. Schmigadoon! will return for season two with all new original songs and guest stars on Friday, April 7, with the first two episodes of its six episode second season, followed by new episodes every Friday through May 5, 2023. Having found true love in the town of Schmigadoon, season two of Schmigadoon! will find Josh (Keegan-Michael Key) and Melissa (Cecily Strong) in Schmicago, the reimagined world of '60s and '70s musicals. The second season of Apple's broadly acclaimed comedy will include new original musical numbers from co-creator and executive producer Cinco Paul, as well as returning stars Cecily Strong, Keegan-Michael Key, Ariana DeBose, Martin Short, Dove Cameron, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski, and Aaron Tveit are set to return, with Tituss Burgess and Patrick Page joining the cast for season two.

Apple TV+ announced that its comedy sensation Ted Lasso will return for its highly anticipated third season this spring 2023 and unveiled a first-look at the new season providing a taste of what's in-store for AFC Richmond. The eight-episode HBO original comedy series Rain Dogs, from BBC One and Sid Gentle Films Ltd, debuts Monday, March 6 (10:00-10:30 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max. From the brilliant new voice of Cash Carraway, Rain Dogs is an unconventional love story between a working class single mum, her 10-year-old daughter, and a privileged gay man. The dark comedy stars Daisy May Cooper, Jack Farthing, Ronke Adekoluejo, Adrian Edmondson and Fleur Tashjian in her debut role, as a dysfunctional family on the fringes of society attempting to go straight in a crooked world.

iCarly Returns April 8 on Paramount+; Apple TV+ Renews The Afterparty for Season 2

Paramount+ released the official trailer for season two of its hit original series iCarly. The season will premiere with two all-new episodes, beginning on Friday, April 8, exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, Australia and the Nordics. Produced by Nickelodeon Studios and based on the original hit sitcom, iCarly follows Carly Shay, the original influencer, and her friends as they navigate work, love and family in their 20s. Following the two-episode season premiere, new episodes will drop weekly on Fridays. The 10-episode second season of Paramount+'s iCarly picks up right after the first season ended, with Carly refocusing her attention on her friends and family following her romantic complications, all while working to boost her revived web channel. Spencer and Harper must also navigate new personal and career developments, while Freddie balances raising Millicent with a new app and a new girlfriend. The series stars Miranda Cosgrove as Carly, Jerry Trainor as Spencer, Nathan Kress as Freddie, Laci Mosley as Harper and Jaidyn Triplett as Millicent.

In this Friday’s season finale episode, Maggie, an unexpected witness, will emerge to help Detective Danner piece together the true story behind Xavier's demise. In addition to directing, Miller serves as showrunner and is executive producing alongside Lord through the pair's production banner, Lord Miller. Tony and Emmy-nominated writer, producer and performer Anthony King (Search Party, Dead to Me) also executive produces the series. Lord Miller’s SVP of Television Aubrey Lee is a producer on the series, which is produced for Apple by TriStar TV and Sony Pictures Television as part of Lord and Miller’s expansive five-year overall television deal.'

Apple TV+ Announces The Afterparty Premiere Date; SNL Closes Out 2021 with 2 New December Episodes

Apple TV+ announced the highly anticipated murder-mystery comedy series, The Afterparty, will debut on Friday, January 28, 2022. From Academy Award, BAFTA and Golden Globe Award winners Chris Miller and Phil Lord (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street), the eight-episode first season will launch with three episodes, followed by one new episode weekly, every Friday. Seven-time Grammy Award winner Billie Eilish will pull double duty for her Saturday Night Live hosting debut and second appearance as musical guest on Dec. 11 on NBC. Eilish's sophomore album, "Happier Than Ever," launched at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Paul Rudd will host SNL for the fifth time on Dec. 18. Rudd stars in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, in theaters now, and Apple TV+'s The Shrink Next Door. Charli XCX will perform as musical guest for the second time. Her highly anticipated new album, "Crash," will be released March 18, 2022. SNL latest episode aired live this past Saturday, Nov. 20, with host Simu Liu and musical guest Saweetie.
