Freeform has announced that newcomer Gigi Zumbado, Jessika Van (Seoul Searching) and Davi Santos (Tell Me a Story, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged) have joined the previously announced cast of Jordin Sparks, Matt Shively and Brooks Brantly in the highly anticipated new comedy series Besties (working title).

Zumbado will play Jesi; a free-spirited 23-year-old Cuban American, raised by two adoring gay dads, who is more than thrilled to find out she has a half-sister. Van will portray Luna; Becca's (Jordin Sparks) roommate and a brilliant med student who is number one in her class, but has no intention of being a doctor. Santos will portray Simon; the assistant to a high-powered agent, who is constantly at odds with Jesi.

Set in Los Angeles, the series will follow Becca (Jordin Sparks) and her newly discovered half-sister Jesi (Gigi Zumbado) as they're thrown into each other's lives by an online genetics test and have to figure out how to go from strangers to sisters. Ranada Shepard, Casey Johnson and David Windsor serve as creators and executive producers. Kenya Barris also serves as executive producer. Besties is produced by ABC Signature Studios. Cher, Anita Hill, Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project, The Office), Alyssa Milano (Who's the Boss?, Romantically Challenged), Samira Wiley (The Handmaid's Tale, Orange Is the New Black) and Elle King have been added to the blockbuster lineup of incredible women set to appear on VH1 Trailblazer Honors. King will perform Baby Outlaw from her latest studio album, Shake the Spirit. Cher will be presenting to previously announced honoree Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The other honorees include Academy Award nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay, The Handmaid’s Tale author Margaret Atwood, #MeToo founder Tarana Burke. Rita Ora will also perform. The one-hour VH1 Trailblazer Honors special event will air on International Women’s Day, Friday, March 8th at 9PM ET/PT, on VH1 and Logo.

Kicking off Women’s History Month, VH1 Trailblazer Honors will celebrate today’s most respected politicians, entertainers, artists, activists, allies and icons who have dedicated their time and steadfast commitments to the women’s movement and beyond. Centered around this year’s incredible breakthroughs in female empowerment and human rights, the annual event will feature the landmark achievements of its honorees. The special event will take place at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles, a National Historic Landmark and extension of the Ebell of Los Angeles, a 125-year-old organization founded by women for women.

There were tons of updates from the TCA Winter 2019 Press Tour from ABC and cable network Freeform yesterday. Currently in its 10th season, ABC announced today that it has picked up the Emmy(R) Award-winning series Modern Family for an 11th and final season. This wonderfully large and blended family will continue to delight audiences for the 2019-2020 fall schedule with its honest and often hilarious look into the warm and sometimes twisted embrace of the modern family. Produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television in association with Steven Levitan Productions and Picador Productions, the series airs Wednesdays at 9:00 p.m. EST on The ABC Television Network, streaming and on demand. ABC announced that it has renewed the hit drama The Good Doctor for a third season, A Million Little Things for a second season and Shark Tank for an 11th season. American Housewife will air two special music-themed episodes this spring. The American Idol episode, airing Tuesday, March 19 at 8:00 p.m. EDT, includes special appearances by music industry forces and the superstar judges of ABC's American Idol, Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, along with Emmy(R) Award-winning host and producer Ryan Seacrest. The season finale, "A Mom's Parade," will air Tuesday, May 21 at 8:00 p.m. EDT. The extraordinary musical episode includes four original songs by renowned composer Justin Paul (The Greatest Showman, Dear Evan Hansen) and Glenn Slater (Tangled, School of Rock-The Musical), as well as choreography from famed choreographer Ashley Wallen (La La Land, The Greatest Showman).

ABC will air a special first-look episode of Videos After Dark, a new comedy reality series hosted by comedian Bob Saget and featuring home videos with an edgier twist, Tuesday, March 12 at 10:00 p.m. EDT), following the epic conclusion to the two-night season finale of The Bachelor, on The ABC Television Network. Avoiding a sophomore slump, critically acclaimed series grown-ish has been picked up for a third season on Freeform. Starring Yara Shahidi, Trevor Jackson, Francia Raisa, Emily Arlook, Jordan Buhat, Chloe Bailey, Halle Bailey, Luka Sabbat and Deon Cole; the series is a contemporary take on the issues that students face in the world of higher education. Freeform announced that Jordin Sparks (Sparkle), Matt Shively (The Real O'Neals) and newcomer Brooks Brantly have been cast in the highly anticipated new comedy series Besties (working title). Sparks will play Becca; an ambitious overachiever from a hard-working, conservative African-American family, who learns that her birth mother is actually white. Critically acclaimed series Marvel's Cloak & Dagger returns Thursday, April 4 and is the story of Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) - two teenagers from very different backgrounds who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers, which are mysteriously linked to one another. The only constants in their lives are danger and each other. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to control the power of darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart. The latest headline from Scarlet Magazine - The Bold Type returns for season three on Tuesday, April 9, at 8:00 p.m. EST/PST. Picking up right after the heartbreak, romance and uncertainty from the season two finale in Paris, The Bold Type is back in New York City where Jane, Kat and Sutton are all dealing with the aftermath of some major decisions. Meanwhile, Scarlet Magazine is undergoing some changes, with new staffers brought on board who bound to ruffle some feathers. Freeform announced the premiere date of the highly anticipated spinoff series Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists. As Freeform's session came to end, the network lined up a group of women in iconic red trench coats to pay homage to the groundbreaking series that defined a generation. Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists will premiere on Wednesday, March 20 at 8:00 p.m. EST/PST. And finally, At today's Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, Freeform President Tom Ascheim surprised the cast members of Good Trouble with a season two pickup of the critically acclaimed series, which is currently airing on the network.

NOTES: Expanding to a six-night, Sunday-Friday schedule this fall, The CW will have 12 hours of original scripted series across the week in primetime this fall, more than ABC, NBC or Fox. Award-Winning Comedy Jane the Virgin returns in midseason for its final season, along with a new season of The 100 and the final season of iZombie. New series In the Dark and Roswell, New Mexico will debut in midseason. The CW will launch its 2018-19 season in October, with premiere dates to be announced later. The season will once again kick off with the exclusive two-night telecast of the IHeartRadio Music Festival; air dates will be announced at a later date.

Freeform President Tom Ascheim and Executive Vice President of Programming and Development Karey Burke unveiled the new and returning projects for The Walt Disney Company's young adult cable network, Freeform, at the combined Disney|ABC Television's presentation for the national advertising community at Lincoln Center's David Geffen Hall. Freeform continues to dominate the young adult landscape in cable with the No. 1 comedy (grown-ish) and the No. 1 new drama (Siren) with young adults and holds the No. 2 slot with women 18-34 and women 12-17. Also claiming the title of No. 1 most social cable network for the 7th year in a row and the No. 1 network in digital viewing, Freeform is delivering on its new tagline "A Little Forward."

New programming includes: Besties, a half-hour multi camera comedy from co-creators Kenya Barris and Ranada Shepard has been ordered to series by Freeform following the enormous success of Barris's breakout coming-of-age show, grown-ish, the No. 1 cable comedy season-to-date (women 18-34.) This multi-cam sitcom explores friendship, identity, race, and class as two lifelong best friends use each other to get through some of the toughest challenges that they will ever face - figuring out who they are and who they want to be. Kenya Barris and Ranada Shepard are executive producers; the series is produced by ABC Signature Studios.

I. Marlene King will expand the universe of Pretty Little Liars for Freeform with a 10-episode series order for Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, featuring returning fan favorites Sasha Pieterse as Alison and Janel Parrish as Mona and starring Sofia Carson (Disney's Descendants) as Ava. The drama also welcomes Sydney Park (The Walking Dead) as Caitlin, newcomer Eli Brown as Dylan, Graeme Thomas King (The Widow) as Jeremy, Kelly Rutherford (Gossip Girl) as Claire, and Hayley Erin (General Hospital) in an undisclosed role. In Beacon Heights, a seemingly perfect town, a group of three college friends struggle with the stress of being overachievers. In the aftermath of the town's first murder, each Perfectionist hides behind a secret, a lie and an alibi.
