HBO Max Orders Animated Comedies; Peacock Reunites The Best Man Franchise Into Limited Series

HBO Max announced series orders for three new adult animated comedy series including a two-season order for Clone High, a modern refresh of the hit series from Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Bill Lawrence that was set at a high school for clones of historical figures: a ten-episode series order for Warner Bros. Animation's Velma, a new comedic origin story starring the unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang, Velma Dinkley, voiced by executive producer Mindy Kaling; Fired on Mars, an existential workplace comedy set five minutes in the future, voiced by Pete Davidson (Saturday Night Live); plus a season two and three pick-up for JG Quintel's adult-animated comedy Close Enough, from Cartoon Network Studios. Season two of Close Enough premieres Thursday, February 25. Additionally, the streamer has confirmed it is producing presentations for a slate of animated originals currently in development. These new adult animated series join an impressive slate of upcoming adult animated series including Harley Quinn, The Prince, Santa Inc., 10 Year Old Tom, and The Boondocks.
Peacock has ordered 10 episodes of the limited dramedy series The Best Man: Final Chapters from Universal Television, written and executive produced by Malcolm D. Lee and Dayna Lynne North. The star-studded original cast from the hit films are set to return including Morris Chestnut, Melissa De Sousa, Taye Diggs, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long and Harold Perrineau. Based upon the eponymous Universal film franchise written and directed by Malcolm D. Lee, the series will catch up with Harper, Robyn, Jordan, Lance, Quentin, Shelby, Candace, and Murch as relationships evolve and past grievances resurface in the unpredictable stages of midlife crisis meets midlife renaissance.
