SitcomsOnline Digest: ABC Orders Script for Designing Women Reboot; James Marsden and Ed Asner Cast in Netflix Series
- The Designing Women reboot is one step closer to reality this week, with ABC giving a script commitment (and original creator Linda Bloodworth Thomason will be writing it). (Hollywood Reporter)
- The Murphy Brown reboot will debut very soon, and it will take on a lot of issues in the Trump administration, including immigration policy. (Deadline)
- The Netflix series Dead to Me, which was already announced to star Christina Applegate, has added James Marsden and Ed Asner to the cast this week. (Variety)
- A recasting has been made for The Conners, with Maya Lynne Robinson being cast as DJ's wife. (Variety)
- In one of the biggest non-surprise developments over the past few months, Les Moonves is gone from CBS, and Julie Chen returned to the network to host Big Brother this week, and got everybody's attention when she signed off as Julie Chen Moonves. (Variety)
- COZI TV is bringing The Office to their lineup in January. (SitcomsOnline)
HOME MEDIA RELEASES (SEPTEMBER 18)

- Magnum P.I. - The Complete Series (DVD, $99.98): While it isn't the first time that it has been released, the classic Tom Selleck series comes to DVD in a complete series once again, just in time for the debut of the reboot.
- WGN America has a weekend marathon of Married... with Children that runs most of the weekend (with a break overnight), leading up to the addition of the series to the regular lineup next week.
- You can catch 84 episodes of Get Smart this weekend on The Binge on Decades.
- The 2018 Emmy Awards will air Monday (not Sunday) on NBC, with hosts Michael Che and Colin Jost.
