Adults 18-49: #1. CBS 1.81/5.04 (rating/share); #2. ABC 1.56/4.33; #3. NBC 1.35/3.75; #4. Fox 0.85/2.33; #5. The CW 0.41/1.14

Week 15 (Dec. 31-Jan. 6) Analysis: 2013 has begun and some shows have started back already, including The Big Bang Theory, which reached a new series high opposite many repeats. As with the past few weeks, we have ratings in two decimal points as of Dec. 17, so we can further see how shows do. We hope to bring this to you every week! Through the final first four night averages CBS has the lead in HH/total viewers and adults 18-49 thanks to the huge Bang episode. ABC is a few tenths behind for second place in 18-49, and is a distant second in HH/viewers. NBC is in third  behind ABC, but Fox is way back in fourth again. When the week is done, NBC will come back and take the week in both HH/viewers and 18-49 since they had the NFL playoffs in primetime last night (Saturday). This could be NBC's last win of the season as they don't have NFL anymore and The Voice is back in late March but that alone won't be enough for weekly NBC wins again. More on that later. As for last week, week 14, NBC took home first in adults 18-49 after coming back big with a huge Sunday Night Football game (that did 30.28 million and a 10.50 18-49 rating), and beating second place Fox by a lot. Then CBS and ABC were well back. Among total viewers, NBC took that crown as well thanks to the game, while CBS had to settle for second. ABC was a distant third and Fox was right behind in fourth.

Monday saw ABC win the last night of 2012, as usual with the best New Year's show in the business. Starting with ABC, the two-hour tribute special New Year's Rockin' Eve Celebrates Dick Clark from 8-10pm did 9.44 million and a 2.58 18-49 rating, which is very solid and shows we all miss Dick Clark. At 10pm, Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest did 13.33 million and a 4.15 18-49 rating, skewing very young and the best number for the primetime version in 12 years. Wow. Look for the 11:30pm version ratings this week. Castle was preempted and will return tomorrow night with all-new episodes!  The rest of the networks were very low rated and under 1 in 18-49. For NBC, they had the movie Enchanted from 8-10pm and did 3.1 million and a 0.74 18-49 rating, down eight tenths from previous week's movie It's a Wonderful Life, which aired from 8-11pm. At 10pm, the primetime version of New Year's Eve with Carson Daly couldn't compete with ABC and did 3.78 million and a 1.15 18-49 rating.  CBS started with repeats of its comedies, as a repeat of How I Met Your Mother did 3.47 million and a 0.86 18-49 rating,  about on par with previous week in 18-49. A second repeat at 8:30pm did 3.05 million and a 0.79 18-49 rating, down about two tenths in 18-49 week-to-week.  A repeat of 2 Broke Girls followed with 4.08 million and a 0.91 18-49 rating, down about three tenths in 18-49 from previous week. Next, a repeat of Mike & Molly did 4.19 million and a 0.84 18-49 rating, which built from its lead-in in total viewers, but down four tenths or so in 18-49 from previous week. A repeat of drama Hawaii Five-0 at 10pm did 4.63 million and a 0.75 18-49 rating, down little more than two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. Fox aired a repeat of Bones at 8 and did 3.49 million and a 0.63 18-49 rating, while a new episode of dud The Mob Doctor did 2.38 million and a 0.42 18-49 rating, losing numbers from its lead-in, which was a repeat...ouch. The CW preempted 90210 and Gossip Girl as a repeat of the special iHeartRadio Music Festival aired from 8-10pm and did 1.36 million and a 0.50 18-49 rating, which is not that bad.

On Tuesday, 2013 started but with low ratings as NBC took the night thanks to a new Parenthood. First for CBS, which took the total viewer crown, a repeat of NCIS aired at 8 and did 10.63 million and a 1.34 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Next a repeat of NCIS: Los Angeles at 9 did 9.39 million and a 1.37 18-49 rating, which built slightly in 18-49 over its lead-in again but down about a tenth in 18-49 week-to-week. And finally at 10pm, a repeat of freshman Vegas did 5.98 million and only a 0.87 18-49 rating, down two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. Onto ABC, at 8pm a repeat of Shark Tank did a solid 5.22 million and a 1.53 18-49 rating, winning its hour. A repeat of Happy Endings did 2.18 million and a 0.76 18-49 rating, which could be better but still beat the Fox comedy repeat. At 9:30pm, a repeat of Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 didn't repeat well with just 1.5 million and a 0.47 18-49 rating. Private Practice was preempted for a repeat of Nashville that did only 1.92 million and a 0.48 18-49 rating. NBC aired repeats of Betty White's Off Their Rockers from 8-10pm. They built as the night went along, so that was good. At 8pm it did 4.96 million and a 1.25 18-49 rating. At 8:30pm a repeat did 5.08 million and a 1.45 18-49 rating. At 9pm, it jumped to 5.61 million and a 1.64 18-49 rating and 9:30pm was even higher with 5.72 million and a 1.79 18-49 rating. At 10pm, a new episode of Parenthood did 5.37 million and a 1.75 18-49 rating, which is OK but not bad for New Year's Day. Fox preempted half of its comedy block as Raising Hope was preempted for two repeats of Ben and Kate which did only 1.72 million and a 0.67 18-49 rating at 8 and even worse with 1.36 million and a 0.51 18-49 rating at 8:30pm. Two repeats of New Girl followed as The Mindy Project was preempted. At 9pm, the repeat did 1.61 million and a 0.71 18-49 rating, and a second repeat at 9:30pm did 1.7 million and jumped a bit to a 0.75 18-49 rating. The CW aired a repeat of Hart of Dixie at 8 and did 1.06 million and a 0.34 18-49 rating, up over a tenth in 18-49 from previous week, while a new episode of new series Emily Owens MD at 9 did 1.3 million and only a 0.36 18-49 rating, which could be better.

Wednesday had a rare NBC win in 18-49 on a very slow night. CBS started the night off with a repeat of Mike & Molly at a special night and time of 8pm doing 6.29 million and a 1.29 18-49 rating and a second repeat followed with 6.71 million and a 1.56 18-49 rating, both off from previous week's Criminal Minds encore in the hour. At 9, a repeat of Criminal Minds did 6.65 million and a 1.64 18-49 rating.  CSI was also a repeat at 10 and did 6.19 million and a 1.33 18-49 rating. ABC kicked off the night with a repeat of The Middle doing 6.61 million and a 1.78 18-49 rating, up about eight tenths in 18-49 from previous week and beat the competing NBC comedy in total viewers and tied it in 18-49, which was new. At 8:30pm a repeat of The Neighbors did 4.83 million and a 1.32 18-49 rating, up about three tenths in 18-49 week-to-week. At 9pm, a repeat of Modern Family did the best of the block with 6.56 million and a 2.10 18-49 rating, which is decent for a repeat and up four tenths in 18-49 from previous week.  Suburgatory followed at 9:30pm with 4.18 million and a 1.31 18-49 rating, which was up around two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. At 10pm, Nashville was a clip show special and did 3.97 million and a 1.16 18-49 rating. New episodes return for ABC Wednesday this coming Wednesday! On Fox, a burn-off episodes of Mobbed didn't do much.  At 8pm, it did 3.06 million and a 1.01 18-49 rating. At 9pm, it did 2.75 million and a 1.11 18-49 rating. Not good. Onto NBC a new Whitney started it off at 8pm with 4.96 million and a 1.78 18-49 rating, for a season high but it still couldn't surpass the ABC comedy, which was a repeat. At 8:30pm, a new Guys with Kids did 4.39 million and a 1.74 18-49 rating, which is also above average, since it aired against repeats.  Law & Order: SVU followed at 9pm with a new episode as well that did 7.73 million and a 2.18 18-49 rating, which is OK but could have been better opposite repeats. At 10pm, a new Chicago Fire did 8.54 million and a 2.43 18-49 rating, which is pretty good, but once again it is doing it against  no competition. In a few weeks it should be back down to mid-1s, meaning this show might work on another slower night like Friday. The CW aired a repeat of its new hit Arrow and did 1.96 million and a 0.44 18-49 rating, which is good for this network for a repeat and on par in 18-49 with previous week. At 9pm, a repeat of Supernatural did 1.31 million and a 0.44 18-49 rating, also solid for a repeat on this network and up slightly in 18-49 from previous week.

On Thursday, CBS easily took the night in both 18-49 and total viewers with new episodes opposite repeats on other networks. Starting with ABC, a special encore airing of the pilot of Nashville did 3.23 million and a 0.68 18-49 rating. At 9pm, Grey's Anatomy was preempted for repeats of the surging Scandal, as 9pm did 2.92 million and a 0.71 18-49 rating and 10pm was better with 3.64 million and a 0.93 18-49 rating. The return this Thursday is amazing, as I have seen the screener! CBS had a night of new episodes against repeats (and Fox burn-offs). They opened with a new The Big Bang Theory doing 19.25 million and a 6.12 18-49 rating, which is amazing and series high in total viewers and tied it in 18-49. Even against all repeats this is great, but it can't keep it up against new episodes, I think. A new Two and a Half Men was up next and benefited with 15.41 million and a 4.53 18-49 rating, a season high. At 9pm, a new Person of Interest followed with 16.23 million and a 3.35 18-49 rating, which is still old skewing but also a season high as it had no competition. At 10pm, a new airing of freshman Elementary closed the night with 11.44 million and a 2.55 18-49 rating, its best numbers in weeks. It might be back to second place this coming Thursday against Scandal. Fox had two more all-new burn-off episodes of Mobbed. The 8pm airing did 2.72 million and a 1.06 18-49 rating, a very distant second place to CBS. At 9pm, a new episode did 3.14 million and a 1.24 18-49 rating, its best ratings of the four airings this week. NBC aired repeats of its comedies, as a repeat of 30 Rock did just 2.47 million and a 0.75 18-49 rating, which was nearly up a full tenth in 18-49 from previous week. At 8:30pm, a repeat of Up All Night did 1.97 million and a 0.77 18-49 rating, nearly the same 18-49 as previous week. At 9, The Office had a repeat that did 2.17 million and a 0.91 18-49 rating, which was up some in 18-49 from previous week. A repeat of Parks & Recreation followed at 9:30pm doing 1.73 million and a 0.73 18-49 rating, on par really in  18-49 from previous week. Still awful. And it got worse at 10pm with a repeat (why, oh why?) of Rock Center with Brian Williams doing just 3.46 million and a 0.78 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. The CW's big gun Vampire Diaries was a repeat and did 1.08 million and a 0.44 18-49 rating, up very slightly in 18-49 from previous week. New series Beauty and the Beast also was a repeat and did 0.9 million and a 0.30 18-49 rating, down very slightly in 18-49 from previous week.

Now, final numbers for Friday and Saturday are not available, but Fox took home first in 18-49 with the Cotton Bowl. New episodes of Last Man Standing and Malibu Country did solid but down some from usual as was CBS' Undercover Boss. ABC was second at 9pm behind Fox's coverage of the Cotton Bowl with a new Shark Tank. From 9-11pm Dateline did solid on NBC, growing big at 10pm.  CBS had lackluster performances for new episodes of CSI: NY and Blue Bloods and ABC 20/20 was below normal.  Fringe was preempted on Fox.
Saturday obviously had NBC take the night in 18-49 thanks to the NFL Playoffs. Fox was highlighted by Cops. CBS did OK with 2-hours of 48 Hours. ABC went with an Once Upon a Time marathon from 8-11pm and was fourth place. Fox didn't do much with Mob Doctor burn-off at 9.

Tonight ABC Sunday is back with all-new episodes except AFV returns next week, but  Once Upon a Time, Revenge and now Happy Endings/Apt. 23 at 10, are all-new. Look for a second place finish behind NFL driven network Fox. NBC doesn't have NFL and will likely struggle with Dateline from 7-9pm and The Biggest Loser season premiere will likely be third or fourth place. I'm guessing NBC overall will be fourth. CBS is in new with 60 Minutes then a repeat of Person of Interest, followed by new episodes of The Good Wife & The Mentatlist for likely a third place finish but NBC could beat them. Fox's animation block is all-new from 8-10pm following an NFL playoff overrun that will hand them the night.

As for the week (week 15), NBC will take first in 18-49 thanks to the playoff  game last night, with Fox likely coming in second place after tonight's overrun over CBS and ABC.  For total viewers, it should be NBC on top here as well thanks to the game last night, then likely CBS, and Fox and ABC. As for the coming week (week 16), more new episodes return and some series premieres like Deception on NBC.We personally can't wait for new episodes of ABC Comedy Wednesday!

Week 15 How the Sitcoms Did

Last Sunday Sitcoms (counts for Week 14 -- Dec. 24-30)
  • The Simpsons (Fox) - A repeat at 8 did 6.69 million and a 2.73 18-49 rating following NFL action, which was about four tenths better in 18-49 than previous week.
  • The Cleveland Show (Fox) - preempted.
  • Bob's Burgers (Fox) - A 8:30 repeat only did 3.69 million and 1.55 18-49 rating as viewers fled.
  • Family Guy (Fox) - A repeat at 9 did 3.88 million and a 1.75 18-49 rating, which is below normal for this series, but then again this whole season has been for this series.
  • American Dad! (Fox) - A 9:30pm repeat did 3.18 million and a 1.49 18-49 rating, which is not that great but OK I guess for the week between Xmas and New Year's.
Monday Sitcoms
  • How I Met Your Mother (CBS) 2 airings - A repeat at 8 did 3.47 million and a 0.86 18-49 rating, just about on par with previous week in 18-49. A second repeat at 8:30pm did 3.05 million and a 0.79 18-49 rating, but that was down nearly two tenths in 18-49 from previous week.
  • 2 Broke Girls (CBS) - A repeat at 9 did 4.08 million and a 0.91 18-49 rating, which was down three tenths in 18-49 from previous week. New Year's Eve, but that seems low still.
  • Mike & Molly (CBS) - A repeat at 9:30pm did 4.19 million and a 0.84 18-49 rating, which built from its lead-in in total viewers but lost around four tenths in 18-49 from previous week.
Tuesday Sitcoms
  • Raising Hope (Fox) - preempted.
  • Ben and Kate (Fox) 2 airings - A special 8pm repeat did 1.72 million and a 0.67 18-49 rating, but the normal 8:30pm airing did worse with 1.36 million and a 0.51 18-49 rating.
  • New Girl (Fox) 2 airings - A New Year's Day repeat at 9 did just 1.61 million and a 0.71 18-49 rating, losing to the competing ABC comedy repeat. A second repeat at 9:30pm did 1.7 million and a 0.75 18-49 rating, building a bit from the lead-in.
  • Go On (NBC) - preempted.
  • Happy Endings (ABC) - A repeat at 9pm beat the competing Fox comedy repeat with 2.18 million and a 0.76 18-49 rating.
  • The Mindy Project (Fox) - preempted.
  • The New Normal (NBC) - preempted.
  • Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 (ABC) - A repeat at 9:30pm didn't do much with just 1.5 million and a 0.47 18-49 rating.
Wednesday Sitcoms
  • The Middle (ABC) - A repeat at 8 did 6.61 million and a 1.78 18-49 rating, which is up around eight tenths in 18-49 from previous week.Very good for a repeat and tied NBC's comedy in 18-49 and that was ALL-NEW. Wow.
  • Whitney (NBC) - A new episode at 8 did 4.96 million and a 1.78 18-49 rating, which is a season high but it played with fool's gold since there was no new competition.
  • Mike & Molly (CBS) 2 airings - A special night and time repeat at 8 did OK doing 6.29 million and a 1.29 18-49 rating. A second repeat at 8:30pm did a little better with 6.71 million and a 1.56 18-49 rating.
  • The Neighbors (ABC) - A repeat of this new comedy did 4.83 million and a 1.32 18-49 rating, which was up around three tenths in 18-49 from previous week. Not bad. New episodes return this Wednesday.
  • Guys with Kids (NBC) - At 8:30pm, a new episode of this series did 4.39 million and a 1.74 18-49 rating, which is above average like its lead-in. I expect it go down this Wednesday as new episodes of other series start to return. Fool's gold!
  • Modern Family (ABC) - A repeat at 9 did 6.56 million and a 2.10 18-49 rating. Not bad for a repeat and up four tenths in 18-49 from previous week. New episode will be back into the 5's this week.
  • Suburgatory (ABC) - A repeat at 9:30pm did 4.18 million and a 1.31 18-49 rating up nearly two full tenths in 18-49 from previous week. Could be better, but not bad for a repeat these days.
Thursday Sitcoms
  • The Big Bang Theory (CBS) - At 8pm, a new episode did 19.25 million and a 6.12 18-49 rating, wow. That is a series high in total viewers and tied for a series best in 18-49. Amazing.  But do note that it aired against all repeats, so likely it will go down this week.
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS) - A new episode took advantage of the higher lead-in and did 15.41 million and a 4.53 18-49 rating, for a season high.
  • 30 Rock (NBC) - A repeat at 8 only mustered 2.47 million and a 0.75 18-49 rating, but that was up about a tenth in 18-49 from previous week.
  • Up All Night (NBC) - A repeat of this dud did only 1.97 million but jumped up a bit from its lead-in in 18-49 with a 0.77 18-49 rating, almost exactly the same as the previous week in 18-49.
  • The Office (NBC) - A repeat did 2.17 million and a 0.91 18-49 rating, not good but up about a tenth in 18-49 week-to-week.
  • Parks & Recreation (NBC) - A repeat did 1.73 million and a 0.73 18-49 rating, just about the same 18-49 as previous week.
Friday Sitcoms
  • Last Man Standing (ABC) - A new episode did a prelim 6.61 million and a prelim 1.4 18-49 rating, slightly below normal.
  • Malibu Country (ABC) - A new episode of this new comedy dud a prelim 6.02 million and a prelim 1.2 18-49 rating, also a bit below normal.
  • Go On (NBC) 2 airings -  2 repeats didn't do much with a prelim 2.27 million and a prelim 0.6 18-49 rating, down some from previous week's prelim ratings. A second repeat did a prelim 1.88 million and a prelim 0.6 18-49 rating, down about three tenths in 18-49 from previous week's prelim ratings.
Saturday Sitcoms
  • None
Airing tonight (Sunday) are new episodes of Fox Animation Domination comedies from 8-10pm following NFL Playoff action. And Happy Endings and Don't Trust the B--- in Apartment 23 are new at 10 on ABC.

Summing it up. The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, Modern Family, The Middle were impressive for the week. Everything else was OK (such as Whitney, Guys with Kids) or just plain terrible (such as New Girl, Ben & Kate, Apartment 23, Parks & Recreation).
