Week 10 (Nov. 21-27) Analysis: Week 10 saw the end of November sweep after Wednesday then the Thanksgiving holiday took over. The first four nights were not available yet due to the Thanksgiving holiday, so we only have final ratings for Monday and Tuesday. We can project the last three nights of sweep has ABC on top in all categories, followed by CBS, Fox and NBC way back in fourth. It's hard to predict what will happen for this week, but perhaps CBS could win the week in all categories as the NFL overrun is with then tonight. ABC should be second in all categories this week but there is a chance they could win the week as well. While, Fox should be third across the board and NBC in fourth in everything even with a an NFL game tonight that might be below normal with the Chiefs and Steelers. As for last week, week 9, CBS beat ABC in HH/viewers for first place. CBS nipped by ABC for first in 18-49 for the week as well. Fox was third in 18-49, while NBC was third in HH/viewers. So, Fox was fourth in HH/viewers and NBC was fourth in 18-49.

The final Monday of November sweep had CBS on top again in 18-49 and ABC on top in viewers. Starting with ABC, Dancing with the Stars won the total viewer race but it was only on from 8-9pm as the Finals did 19.61 million and a 3.5 18-49 rating, up from previous week, even though ABC was preempted in Boston/Kansas City for MNF simulcast. At 9pm the series premiere of game show You Deserve It did 8.55 million but only a 1.7 18-49 rating, possibly the preemptions killed some of its ratings, but not a good start. At 10pm, Castle did 10.85 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, off a tenth from its previous episode two week prior. For CBS, How I Met Your Mother started it off with 10.01 million and a 4.4 18-49 rating, down some from previous week, but it has certainly surprised this season. 2 Broke Girls followed with 11.33 million and a 4.6 18-49 rating, down some from previous week. This is still a big hit. At 9pm, a new Two and a Half Men, with new star Ashton Kutcher, did 15.82 million and a 5.2 18-49 rating, down some from previous week in the demo. All the series have gone down two tenths week-to-week this time. A new Mike & Molly followed the huge lead-in and did 13.05 million and a 4.2 18-49 rating, down two tenths from the previous week. An all-new Hawaii Five-0 was next doing 10.59 million and a 2.8 18-49 rating, down a half a point from from the previous week. Fox started with the expensive Terra Nova and it did 6.5 million and a series low 2.1 18-49 rating, down from previous week. Not too good. And at 9pm, House looks more and more like this will be its last season as it posted 7.46 million and a 2.5 18-49 rating, on par with previous week. NBC followed with another two-hour The Sing-Off doing only 4.27 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating, up a tenth from previous week. Season finale is tomorrow night. At 10pm, NBC aired a new episode of Rock Center with Brian Williams and it did an embarrassing 3.64 million and a 0.9 18-49 rating, a series low. The CW was new with Gossip Girl doing 1.35 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating, up a tenth week-to-week. At 9pm Hart of Dixie did 1.77 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating each, on par with previous week.

On Tuesday, ABC took the honors with the finale of Dancing. Bu first, CBS had the juggernaut NCIS opening the night off with 18.5 million and a 3.5 18-49 rating, down a lot from previous week. What happened? Then spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles was next and did 14.1 million and 3.0 18-49 rating, down from previous week. And a new Unforgettable did 10.42 million and a 2.2 18-49 rating, down from previous week and a series low. ABC started with new comedy Last Man Standing with Tim Allen leading the night off doing 9.29 million and a 2.7 18-49 rating, up some from the previous week. Solid and it will be new for the next three weeks still, too. Get on board! Week six of Man Up! was next and it did 6.66 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, up some from previous week and the first time it has gone up. Still needs to do better. Then Dancing with the Stars: The Results Grand Finale followed from 9-11pm with 19.56 million and a 4.1 18-49 rating, of course up big from the previous week, as we crowned J.R. Martinez the champion. Body of Proof was preempted and will be new this week. Fox preempted Glee and the comedies New Girl & Raising Hope for a two-hour The X Factor on a special night and did 9.43 million and a 3.2 18-49 rating, below normal. NBC was next with a two-hour The Biggest Loser doing 5.58 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, down some from the previous week. At 10pm, Parenthood did 4.57 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, down some week-to-week. The CW aired a new 90210 that did 1.26 million and a 0.6 18-49 rating, down a tenth week-to-week. Then the Sarah Michelle Gellar drama Ringer was preempted for a repeat of Hart of Dixie doing 959,000 viewers and a 0.4 18-49 rating.

Wednesday it was the last night of sweeps and it had lower ratings because it was Thanksgiving Eve but ABC was on top. We only have prelim ratings due to the Thanksgiving holiday. First, CBS started the night off with Survivor: South Pacific recap show at a prelim 7.85 million and a prelim 1.9 18-49 rating. Veteran drama Criminal Minds was a repeat and did a prelim 8.23 million and a prelim 1.8 18-49 rating. At 10pm, CSI was a repeat too and did a prelim 7.26 million and a prelim 1.6 18-49 rating. ABC was all-new with its Laugh On comedy block with a new The Middle doing a prelim 9.09 million and a prelim 2.5 18-49 rating, which was barely down in viewers from previous week. Not bad for Thanksgiving Eve. Suburgatory followed at 8:30pm with a solid prelim 8.32 million and a prelim 2.5 18-49 rating, and it was actually UP from previous week in viewers. The mega hit Modern Family was next at 9pm and it did a prelim 12.65 million and a prelim 4.5 18-49 rating, down only some in viewers from previous week. At 9:30pm the buzzworthy Happy Endings did a prelim 7.22 million and a prelim 2.7 18-49 rating, yes this was actually up in viewers from previous week, too. At 10pm the new drama Revenge did a prelim 7.24 million and a first place prelim 2.3 18-49 rating. Solid numbers, and only down some from previous week in viewers. Fox aired The X Factor from 8-9pm doing a prelim 8.51 million and a prelim 2.5 18-49 rating, down big from previous week when it was two-hours. The special Mobbed followed at 9pm and just a prelim 4.7 million and a prelim 1.6 18-49 rating. NBC opened the night with a new Up All Night at a prelim 4.33 million and a prelim 1.5 18-49 rating, only down some from previous week in viewers. At 8:30pm, a repeat followed and did just a prelim 2.99 million and a prelim 1.0 18-49 rating, down from previous week's repeat. At 9pm, Harry's Law and Law & Order: SVU were preempted for the special The Biggest Loser: Where Are They Now? that did only a prelim 3.69 million and a prelim 1.2 18-49 rating from 9-11pm. The CW had a repeat of Top Model leading the night off with a prelim 863,000 viewers and a prelim 0.3 18-49 rating, down some from previous week. Then America's Next Top Model clip show was next at 9pm with a prelim 992,000 viewers and a prelim 0.4 18-49 rating.

Thursday it was Thanksgiving and nothing really was normal and new for regular series. First, ABC opened the night with A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving doing a solid prelim 5.78 million and a prelim 1.8 18-49 rating. At 9pm, Grey's Anatomy was preempted as ABC aired a repeat of The Middle doing a prelim 4.25 million and a prelim 1.3 18-49 rating. Private Practice was also preempted as ABC aired the special A Very Gaga Thanksgiving from 9:30pm-11pm doing a prelim 5.51 million and a solid prelim 1.7 18-49 rating. CBS opened with a repeat of The Big Bang Theory at a prelim 11.24 million and a a prelim 3.6 18-49 rating, but keep in mind some of these ratings are NFL ratings in San Francisco. Then, a repeat of Rules of Engagement was next doing a prelim 7.88 million and a prelim 2.4 18-49 rating, also with some NFL in there, so expect the finals to go down. A repeat of Person of Interest followed with a prelim 7.97 million and a prelim 1.7 18-49 rating. A repeat of The Mentalist followed and did a prelim 7.76 million and a prelim 1.5 18-49 rating. Fox preempted The X Factor for the special Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas doing a prelim 6.18 million and a prelim 2.0 18-49 rating. From 8:30pm-9:30pm, Fox aired the special Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown that did a prelim 4.96 million and a prelim 1.6 18-49 rating, as Bones was preempted. NBC preempted its comedies Community, Parks and Recreation, The Office and Whitney for the movie Horton Hears a Who that did a prelim 3.69 million and a prelim 1.1 18-49 rating, but some NFL is in there from Baltimore, so possibly it will go down in finals. NBC's drama bust Prime Suspect was preempted for the special The 85th Anniversary of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade that did a prelim 3.69 million and a prelim 1.1 18-49 rating. The CW's big gun Vampire Diaries and new drama The Secret Circle were repeats that did a prelim 992,000 viewers/0.3 18-49 rating and a prelim 776,000 viewers/0.2 18-49 rating.

Now, final numbers for Friday and Saturday are not available, but Fox won Friday thanks to a Iron Man 2 airing from 8-10:30pm. Specials rules the night, but none did that we.
Saturday numbers had ABC Saturday Night Football on top by a wide margin, while CBS repeats were a distant second.

Tonight ABC Sunday is all-new with half of its normal line-up of AFV, Once Upon a Time, Desperate Housewives, and Pan Am, as the latter two are preempted for the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie. Look for Once to do great again. NBC will win the night with the NFL with the Chiefs and Steelers, but might be below normal. CBS has its normal line-up of 60 Minutes, Amazing Race, The Good Wife and CSI: Miami, but look for an NFL overrun boosting it. Fox has the animated comedies from 7-10pm, with The Cleveland Show at 7:30pm.

As for the week (week 10), it's a tough call. Either CBS or ABC will win it. I'm guessing CBS will be first in HH/viewers and maybe ABC is first in 18-49. Fox should be third across the board and battle NBC. As for the coming week (week 11), it's the beginning of repeats and holiday specials but there are still some new showings, so be aware!

Thursday Sitcoms

  • Community (NBC) - preempted.

  • How I Met Your Mother (CBS) 2 airings - A prelim 2.8 million and a prelim 0.8 18-49 rating at 8, followed by a repeat at 8:30 that did a prelim 2.43 million and a prelim 0.8 18-49 rating.

Airing tonight (Sunday) are Fox's animated comedies from 7-10pm, including new ones from 7:30-10.

Summing it up. Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, 2 Broke Girls, How I Met Your Mother, Mike & Molly, The Middle, Suburgatory, Happy Endings were impressive for the week. Everything else was OK (such as Rules of Engagement, Up All Night) or just plain old terrible (such as Week 9 Allen Gregory).
