ABC Family's Return of Melissa & Joey and Premiere of State of Georgia Off to Solid Start; Sitcom Stars on Talk Shows (Week of July 4, 2011)

ABC Family's new Comedy Wednesday line-up premiered to decent ratings on Wednesday. Melissa & Joey returned with all-new episodes and surged over last fall's finale in all demos. It was Wednesday's number one primetime cable telecast in Females 12-34 and ranked number one across all cable at 8:00pm in target categories. And the series premiere of new comedy State of Georgia is ABC Family's number two comedy launch ever in Adults 18-49. It ranked as cable's number one program in the half-hour in target 18-34, 18-49 and 12-34 demos.
Melissa & Joey aired opposite NBC's finale of The Voice, but the summer premiere delivered the series' number two telecast of all time in Teens 12-17 (310,000 viewers), ranked as Wednesday's No. 1 telecast in Prime in Females 12-34 (639,000 viewers), and was the No. 1 cable telecast in its time period in Adults 18-34 (518,000 viewers), Women 18-34 (391,000 viewers), Women 18-49 (593,000 viewers) and Females 12-34. It placed among Wednesday's Top 5 prime cable telecasts in Women 18-34 (No. 3), Women 18-49 (No. 4) and Viewers 12-34 (No. 5). And The summer premiere outperformed its fall finale (10/26/10) across the board, including by 18% in Adults 18-34 (518,000 vs. 439,000 viewers), by 29% in Women 18-34 (391,000 vs. 304,000 viewers), by 18% in Women 18-49 (593,000 vs. 504,000 viewers), by 23% in Viewers 12-34 (829,000 vs. 672,000 viewers) and by 44% in Females 12-34 (639,000 vs. 445,000 viewers). And it outperformed its episodes to date (8/7-10/26/10) average by double-digit percent margins in Women 18-34 (+15% - 391,000 vs. 341,000 viewers), Viewers 12-34 (+17% - 829,000 vs. 708,000 viewers) and Females 12-34 (+29% - 639,000 vs. 496,000 viewers). The summer premiere averaged 1.54 million total viewers.
Meanwhile, the series premiere of State of Georgia followed and also against an extremely competitive landscape that included the finale of NBC's The Voice," ABC Family's newest original series debuted as the network's No. 2 comedy launch of all time in Adults 18-49 (737,000 viewers), behind only last summer's launch of Melissa & Joey, and easily ranked No. 1 across all cable in the half hour in Adults 18-34 (458,000 viewers), Women 18-34 (345,000 viewers), Women 18-49 (553,000 viewers), Viewers 12-34 (720,000 viewers) and Females 12-34 (571,000 viewers). The Raven Symone comedy ranked among Wednesday's Top 5 cable programs in Females 12-34 (No. 4) and Women 18-34 (No. 5). The series premiere averaged 1.32 million total viewers, holding a good chuck of its lead-in ratings.

Leonard tries to keep Sheldon from overreacting when a past mistake comes to light, but Sheldon punishes Leonard by making him walk a mile in his shoes. Meanwhile, Penny confronts Raj’s ex-girlfriend, Lucy.

The Big Bang Theory - "The Scavenger Vortex" (CBS, 8:30PM T/PT) (Repeat)
When the entire gang competes in a scavenger hunt designed by Raj, it brings out the best – and worst – in everyone.

The Crazy Ones - "The Monster" / "The Lighthouse" (CBS, 9:00PM ET/PT) (Season Finale)
"The Monster" - Simon and the team try an out-of-the-box idea in order to save a library from being shut down, and Gordon literally becomes the unwilling poster boy for the campaign. Brad Garrett returns as Gordon Lewis, Gayle King guest stars as herself and Melody Thomas Scott guest stars as Flora, the librarian.

"The Lighthouse" - When a corporation wants to buy out Lewis, Roberts+Roberts, Gordon calls in the board to vote, and Simon’s ex-wife and Sydney’s mom has the final say. Brad Garrett returns as Gordon Lewis and Marilu Henner guest stars as Simon’s ex-wife and Sydney’s mother.

Surviving Jack - "Rhythm Is a Dancer" (Fox, 9:30PM ET/PT)
It's homecoming night, but Frankie is bummed that his crush, Heather (guest star Lili Reinhart), is promised to another date and Rachel is protesting the school's "No Grinding" policy. Community - "Basic Sandwich" (NBC, 8:00PM ET/PT) (Season Finale)
The group learns the history of Greendale’s first Dean, Russell Borchert (guest star Chris Elliott, “Eagleheart”), a reclusive, wealthy genius who disappeared amid a personal scandal in the 1970s. Once Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) and Hickey (Jonathan Banks) locate the school’s blueprints, Annie (Alison Brie) and Abed (Danny Pudi) lead the search for Borchert’s old computer lab, which was sealed off years ago. Subway returns to Greendale with plans to take over the campus for a Subway University and they enlist Chang (Ken Jeong) to secretly keep tabs on the study group. Meanwhile, Jeff (Joel McHale) and Britta (Gillian Jacobs) make a grown-up decision about their futures.

Parks and Recreation - "One in 8,000" (NBC, 8:30PM ET/PT)
Leslie (Amy Poehler) and Ben (Adam Scott) run a charity auction to raise funds for the unity concert. April (Aubrey Plaza) steps in to manage Andy’s (Chris Pratt) schedule, while Donna (Retta) asks Ron (Nick Offerman) for help with her ex-boyfriend (Special Guest Star KEEGAN MICHAEL-KEY).

David takes Emily out driving, but his "coaching" makes her nervous, and he insists Emily's not ready for the responsibility. Later, Janie discovers Dr. Monkey Chunks was run over in the driveway, and now everyone is a suspect.
