It's time for another edition of Fri-Yay! That means we will take a look back on some sitcom happenings in recent days or weeks or other fun sitcomy stuff. It's a sitcom lover's paradise! Happy Fri-Yay!

This fall has seen the triumphant return of many sitcoms after being put on hiatus for COVID-19 related reasons. Nearly every network has its sitcom slot back, at least partially, and it should be cause for celebration that networks can air original programming again. Yet, most sitcoms are returning with ratings down sharply from where they were a year ago. Even reliable hits like The Conners and Young Sheldon are struggling to crack a 1.0 in the demo (live+same day). Broadcast ratings overall are down once again this season (after a brief surge during lockdown in the spring), but sitcoms seem to be hit especially hard. Is there any hope for a breakout sitcom to come along and buck the trend?

It's always possible, of course - but as of now, it just simply seems like reality TV and select drama series are leading the way for broad hits capable of scoring big numbers. Shows like This Is Us, Grey's Anatomy, The Masked Singer, and NBC's Chicago series still pull in healthy numbers. And while the bigger sitcom hits like Young Sheldon and The Conners aren't doing badly, either - they just aren't quite living up to the biggest hits on network TV. It seems that many sitcom audiences are simply finding their content elsewhere, whether it be the shows on streaming service or different sitcoms on those same streaming services. Hopefully, a show can break through like The Conners did a few years ago and become a substantial hit. But for now, we might just have to accept that sitcom audiences are more splintered than ever.

BET will spotlight CBS' upcoming Monday night line-up prior to their new season premieres. The special presentation of select encore episodes of CBS' popular series The Neighborhood, Bob ♥ Abishola and All Rise will air on BET and BET HER, Friday, Nov. 13 beginning at 8:00 PM, ET/PT. All three series return with original episodes for their 2020-2021 season premieres on Monday, Nov. 16 on CBS.

Television's treasured game show host, Alex Trebek will be remembered by BUZZR network with an extra special tribute featuring his game show appearances from the last 40 years. Though best known as the host of Jeopardy!, Trebek once-upon-a-time appeared as a contestant on Card Sharks (1980s) as well as hosted episodes of Classic Concentration and To Tell The Truth in the late 80s and early 90s. BUZZR network shines a special light on Trebek's unforgettable career and celebrates his breadth of work with these iconic appearances on Saturday, November 14, 2020 from 12:30pm – 2:00am EST. BUZZR's afternoon of tribute programming will begin with episodes of Card Sharks in which viewers see Trebek in the rare role of contestant competing in a charity tournament on behalf of the Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect. Trebek famously vies against other well-known, historical masters of ceremonies such as Bill Cullen, Gene Rayburn and Tom Kennedy.

Additionally, BUZZR has lined-up back to back episodes of Classic Concentration, in which Trebek appeared as an adored host taking a very genuine interest in those around him. Interspersed within Classic Concentration programming, BUZZR will also air a rare 1990's episode in which Trebek hosted a revival of To Tell The Truth starring panelists Ron Masak, Mother Love, Frank Runyeon and Kitty Carlisle. In addition to this this special programming tribute, BUZZR TV in conjunction with Fremantle, will be making a donation to the Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Network (PanCAN) in honor of Alex Trebek and Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month (November). March Madness starts today and BUZZR wants in the game! The network is home to the most iconic game show hosts in history, and to celebrate March Madness they will be holding their own tournament of champions – BUZZR Brackets. Highlighting the most recognizable and cherished game show hosts throughout history, BUZZR talent has the uncanny ability to make deals, wrangle unruly celebrities and create catch phrases that become part of the American lexicon – "Survey Says!" Beginning Tuesday, March 22, viewers will have the opportunity to cheer on the top 16 BUZZR game show hosts as they go head-to-head in the BUZZR Brackets tournament. Who's got better game? Can Joe Garagiola's contagious laugh triumph over Monty Hall's matchmaking? Viewers can head to BUZZR's website to download their very own BUZZR Bracket and set their picks.

The tournament tips off at 8:00pm ET on Tuesday, March 22 with continued coverage each weeknight. The competition wraps up when the two final hosts battle it out on Sunday, April 3 at 8:00pm ET. Leading up to the finals, BUZZR will host a 14-hour marathon beginning at 6:00am ET on Sunday, April 3, recapping the various match-ups throughout the week. Which host will make it to the championship, and who will witness an upset? Tune in to find out!

Dating a murderous psychopath and figuring out what to wear to your best friend's suicide are typical teen problems for Veronica Sawyer. With a pilot script order for Heathers, TV Land is digging into the pitch-black comedy for their first anthology series, based on the cult classic film. Set in the present day, our heroine will be dealing with a very different but equally vicious group of Heathers. The script is written by Jason Micallef (Butter), and Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi will executive produce for Lakeshore Entertainment. The pilot script order for Heathers comes on the heels of several development announcements TV Land made at their upfront presentation on March 3, including an untitled put pilot based on the life of Kyle Richards (The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) with Emmy®-winning executive producers John Wells (ER, The West Wing) and John Riggi (30 Rock, Will & Grace), and a pilot order for an adaptation of hit film The First Wives Club, to be written by Rebecca Addelman (New Girl) and executive produced by Jenny Bicks (Sex and the City). The network also renewed Teachers for a 20-episode second season and struck an overall development deal with Darren Star, the creator of the critically-acclaimed show Younger, which has its second season finale on Wednesday, March 23 at 10pm ET/PT. And of course Lopez starring George Lopez premieres on March 30.

BUZZR will be throwing a pre-game party you won't want to miss. Beginning at 1:00 PM ET/10:00 AM PT on Super Bowl Sunday (February 7), BUZZR will kick-off Super Bowl Sunday with the ultimate tailgate. Be sure to get your nachos, chicken wings and iced brewskies ready early, as BUZZR unlocks the vault on vintage Family Feud episodes from the 80's featuring the renowned Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders taking on the Dallas Cowboy football players, as well as the AFC quarterbacks going head-to-head with the NFC quarterbacks. While the episodes were originally created as a charity benefit for the Boys/Girls Club of America and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, there definitely were some flags thrown. "Holding" - Watch as Richard Dawson attempts invite the most famous cheerleaders in the NFL back to his place. "Interception" - Needless to say, he doesn't necessarily impress when learning how to catch and throw a football. Immediately following the initial broadcast, the BUZZR Bowl will repeat at 6:00 PM ET/3:00 PM PT during the big game.

FremantleMedia North America's digital multicast network, BUZZR, will be celebrating two birthday events. First up, a mini-marathon of To Tell the Truth to honor the late Mark Goodson's birthday, which was his favorite show, will air tonight (Thursday, Jan. 14) starting at 8pm ET and will feature Goodson himself in the episodes. Mr. Goodson would have been 101. Then on Sunday, January 17, Betty White is turning 94! And she is still active as ever, but BUZZR will air a marathon of game shows featuring Betty White from 8pm-2am. Happy Birthday to Betty White and the late Mark Goodson!

BUZZR, which launched on June 1, 2015 and is continually adding new episodes from its vault of content, is a time capsule – an unending celebration where viewers can play along to some of FremantleMedia North America's vast portfolio of more than 40,000 iconic game show episodes, which are shown around the clock. Featured titles include Family Feud, where you won't want to miss the outrageously fun Richard Dawson kissing every female contestant; What's My Line, featuring cultural icons becoming time-stamped contestants/panelists like a 29 year-old whip-smart Betty White, and a young Muhammad Ali; as well as famed titles To Tell the Truth, Match Game, Password, Beat the Clock, Blockbusters and Card Sharks.

After a hugely successful trip to the West Coast last year, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is heading back to Los Angeles from Feb. 15-19. The Tonight Show will once again be telecast from Stage One at Universal Studios with a huge array of A-list celebrity guests, including Will Ferrell, Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera and Zach Galifianakis. Others will be announced at a later date. There will also be games, musical highlights and plenty of surprises. In addition, Fallon will be going primetime with The Tonight Show Valentine's Day Anniversary Special, set for Sunday, Feb. 14 from 9-11 p.m. The special will celebrate the show's second anniversary with a compilation of some of Fallon's best Tonight Show moments, including celebrity interviews, musical impressions and comedy sketches.

There is a special episode of Home & Family airing today (Tuesday, June 30) at 10am on the Hallmark Channel that reunited some of the stars of the hit sitcoms Soap and Benson. The tribute to living legend Robert Guillaume (Benson, Soap) features guests Katherine Helmond (Soap), Robert Mandan (Soap), Jay Johnson (with puppet Bob!) (Soap), Rene Auberjonois (Benson) and Missy Gold (Benson). But that's not all! There was a video from Billy Crystal (Soap) and he congratulated Robert on his surprise award from the Hollywood Appreciation Society. FremantleMedia North America's new digital multicast network, BUZZR, is set to celebrate Independence Day with a lineup of some of America's favorite game shows, but this time with a special twist! Airing in primetime at 8:00 PM ET/5:00 PM PT with a re-airing at 11:00 PM ET/8:00 PM PT, viewers will be pulled into the game show time capsule with 4th of July episodes from decades past. The patriotic celebration will kick off with the memorable July 4, 1985 episode of Body Language, featuring host, Tom Kennedy and some familiar celebrity faces, including Lisa Bonet (The Cosby Show) and Jason Bateman (It's Your Move). The festivities will continue with episodes of Match Game, Press Your Luck, Card Sharks, Super Password and Password Plus, making this special television event the perfect post-fireworks party!

Netflix has announced that new comedy Grace and Frankie has been picked up for a second season! In this irreverent and touching series, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin star as Grace and Frankie, a pair of frenemies whose lives are turned upside down - and permanently intertwined - when their husbands leave them for each other. Together, they must face starting over in their 70s in a 21st century world. The series also stars Martin Sheen, Sam Waterston, Brooklyn Decker, Ethan Embry, June Diane Raphael and Baron Vaughn. Created by Marta Kauffman (Friends) and Howard J. Morris (Home Improvement). The first season went live on Netflix on May 8 with 13 episodes. No word yet on how many episodes will be produced for a second season, but stay tuned for the second season in 2016!

• It has seemed for several years that there was no hope for any future seasons of King of the Hill on DVD, but that changed late last year. Now, Olive Films is moving ahead with more of the series on April 7, with King of the Hill - The Complete Ninth Season and King of the Hill - The Complete Tenth Season.
• Mill Creek is moving ahead with their re-releases of Bewitched on DVD with their upcoming release of Bewitched - Seasons 5 and 6. Claim to Fame: We're still having Facts of Life fever (so to speak) this week, and this week, we're featuring one of the cast members who wasn't exactly a regular, but appeared in many episodes,  Geri Jewell, best known for playing Blair's cousin Geri on the series. Jewell was born with cerebral palsy, and even though TV had been around for three decades by the time Facts of Life debuted, she was the first actress with cerebral palsy to be featured on a TV series. While she had some difficulty finding roles following the end of the series, she did appear in a few guest roles, as well as a role in the HBO series Deadwood. Much of her work these days is that of a motivational speaker these days, and she maintains a positive attitude about life by having a sense of humor about her challenges that she deals with.

And another mutlicast network is joining the field! We gave you news on Decades and LAFF, but now it's time for some games! Fox Television Stations has acquired rights to BUZZR TV from FremantleMedia North America (FMNA) and Debmar-Mercury. BUZZR TV will showcase FremantleMedia's extensive library of game show content in all 17 Fox O&O markets, including nine out of the top 10, and 14 out of the top 20 DMAs. Thom Beers, the CEO of FremantleMedia North America, has made launching this channel a top priority for the business. "FremantleMedia has consistently been the leader in the game show space, with long-running and more-popular-than-ever titles such as Family Feud and The Price is Right," said Thom Beers.
