Final Summer Week Sitcom Ratings; Our 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Picks

Summer officially ends after tonight! We will be back with our normal weekly ratings report with the first four nights numbers and analysis next Sunday, so today is our last summer report of how the sitcoms did in summer:

Last Sunday Sitcoms (counts for Summer Week 15, week of Sept. 5-11)
  • American Dad! (Fox) - preempted.
  • Bob's Burgers (Fox) - preempted.
  • The Simpsons (Fox) - A repeat did 5.3 million and a 2.4 18-49 rating, which was was higher than previous week thanks to the NFL lead-in.
  • The Cleveland Show (Fox) - preempted.
  • Family Guy (Fox) - A one-hour repeat from 8:30-9:38pm did 4.04 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, which was up from the previous week.

Summer Week 16 (Sept. 12-18)

Monday Sitcoms
  • How I Met Your Mother (CBS) 2 airings - 3.3 million and a 1.1 18-49 rating for a repeat at 8:39pm, thanks to a US Open overrun, was down a lick from the previous week. A second repeat followed at 9:09pm and delivered 3.7 million and a 1.2 18-49 rating, also off a bit from previous week.
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS) - 4.4 million and a 1.2 18-49 rating for a repeat at 9:39pm is down week-to-week.
  • Mike & Molly (CBS) - 4.09 million and a 1.1 18-49 rating for a repeat at 10:10pm was also down from the previous week. Looks like the U.S. Open overrun really messed things up.
Tuesday Sitcoms
  • Raising Hope (Fox) 2 airings - A repeat at 9pm did just 1.83 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating, down some from previous week. A repeat at 9:30pm did 1.92 million and a 0.8 18-49 rating, on par with previous week.
Wednesday Sitcoms
  • The Middle (ABC) 2 airings - A repeat at 8pm did 4.31 million and a 1.2 18-49 rating, on par really with the previous week. A second repeat followed with 4.38 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, off a bit week-to-week.
  • Modern Family (ABC) 2 airings - A repeat at 9pm did 4.9 million and a 1.8 18-49 rating, off some from the previous week but still a good summer showing for sitcoms. A repeat at 9:30pm followed and did 4.65 million and a 1.8 18-49 rating, on par with previous week
  • Up All Night (NBC) - The series premiere following the season finale of America's Got Talent was certainly sampled with 10.95 million and a 3.7 18-49 rating at 10pm. It will be interesting how much of that it can hang on to this week in its normal timeslot of 8pm. I'm guessing a 2.0, as the reception to the pilot wasn't too good.
  • Free Agents (NBC) - The series premiere of this comedy followed and it lost a good chunk of the lead-in's ratings, which is a terrible sign for this series. The premiere did 6.12 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, which in any other week would be pretty low. Not good for a premiere.
Thursday Sitcoms
  • The Big Bang Theory (CBS) 2 airings - A repeat did 8.22 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, which was way up from the previous week. A second repeat followed and did better with 8.78 million anda 2.6 18-49 rating. The season premiere is this week and should do well.
  • Community (NBC) - Just 2.05 million and a 0.6 18-49 rating for a repeat.
  • Up All Night (NBC) - A repeat of the previous night's premiere did 2.51 million and a 1.0 18-49 rating. More sampling.
  • The Office (NBC) - A repeat did 3.11 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating, its best numbers in months.
  • Free Agents (NBC) - 2.38 million and a 1.1 18-49 rating for a repeat of the premiere from the previous night. Could be better, but just sampling.

Friday Sitcoms

  • None.
Saturday Sitcoms
  • American Dad! (Fox) - prelim ratings show only 1.59 million and a prelim 0.8 18-49 rating, which is on par week-to-week.
  • The Cleveland Show (Fox) - prelim ratings for this show were even lower with a prelim 1.68 million and a prelim 0.7 18-49 rating, also on par week-to-week.
  • Up All Night (NBC) - Yet another airing of the premiere did a prelim 2.32 million and a prelim 0.6 18-49 rating. More sampling, but NBC will be airing second runs of the series for the next few Fridays. That could hamper its Wednesday airings a bit.
  • Free Agents (NBC) - A third run of the premiere did only a prelim 1.76 million and a prelim 0.4 18-49 rating. This series won't be encoring anymore.
Tonight the Fox animated comedies are preempted for the Emmy's.

Summing it up. Repeats of The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, last week's The Simpsons and Family Guy, and the premiere of Up All Night were impressive for the week. Everything else was OK (such as a repeat of The Office and the premiere of Free Agents) or just plain old terrible (such as repeats of Raising Hope and Community).

OUR PICK: Modern Family. It is clearly the best comedy and should win for the second consecutive season. Glee is not a half-hour comedy.

OUR PICK: Ty Burrell, Modern Family. Someone from Modern Family will win and I feel Ty deserves it the most. Ed O'Neill could win too, after not being nominated last year.

OUR PICK: Sofia Vergara, Modern Family. Vergara stepped it up big time in season two. She is most deserving. Betty White is a wild card here, she is great but I don't think she should win. Lynch and Bowen are deserving, too, especially Bowen.

After a fight in an escape room, Krusty's aunt fixes Homer's relationship with Patty and Selma.

Krapopolis - "Ice Week!" (Fox, 8:30PM ET/PT) (Repeat)
Ty struggles to keep his cool when he gets the hots for a visiting reporter; Shlub is paid a visit by an old friend; Hippocampus and Stupendous risk missing the festivities altogether.

Animal Control - "Giraffes, Gorillas and Penguins" (Fox, 9:00PM ET/PT) (Repeat)
The crew must contain a freak zoo break; Frank realizes that he needs to break up with Yasmin; Emily finds an unexpected benefactor in a celebrity businesswoman.

Going Dutch - "Pilot" (Fox, 9:30PM ET/PT) (Repeat)
The colonel is reassigned to take emergency command of USAG Stroopsdorf in the Netherlands; Sgt. Conway provides the colonel and Shah with a tour of the things Stroopsdorf is known for... cheese, laundry and bowling.
