Close Out 2008 and Ring in 2009 with New Year's TV Marathons!

It is the last day of 2008 and it is time to close out 2008 and open 2009 with some TV marathons! We told you about many of them already, too! Let's start with New Year's Eve, which is today. If you don't want to watch any of the College Football Bowl games, you're in luck because we have many TV marathons, including sitcoms! WGN America has a Honeymooners marathon, as we mentioned previously, starting at 8pm running until 3:30am ET before starting up again on New Year's Day at 10am through 10pm. WPIX in New York will also have its annual Honeymooners marathon as well of course starting at midnight to 5am tonight and then again tomorrow from 9am-8pm. And we mentioned yesterday that Me-Too in Chicago will have a Three Stooges marathon today from 9am-3am and a movie marathon on New Year's Day. TV Land closes out 2008 with an I Love Lucy marathon, and also the show ends its run on TV Land, as the show moves to Hallmark Channel this weekend. Oxygen has a morning block of Roseanne from 9am-3pm. Not in the mood for comedy? Sci Fi has a Twilight Zone marathon starting today at 8am and running all the way until Friday at 6am...wow! Then Sci Fi has an all-day marathon of Stargate Atlantis on Friday. GSN has a block of the Dick Clark game show $100,000 Pyramid. Who said that the ball drop is all that Dick Clark can be seen in on New Year's Eve? TV One has a marathon block of Divorce Court today from 11am-5pm. You know TBS has a 24-hour marathon of A Christmas Story? Well now USA will start their own tradition and have a 24-hour marathon of Elf starting at 6am. Versus will have another Rocky movie marathon from 11am-10pm, with the first five films. Other notable marathons today include CSI on Spike TV, Drake & Josh on Nick, Project Runway on Bravo and Keeping Up With the Kardashians on E! The Spiderman animated series marathon will be for two straight days on Toon Disney.

On New Year's Day, we mentioned a lot already, too. But we didn't mention The Andy Griffith Show marathon in Los Angeles on KDOC starting at 10am! Me-TV in Chicago we mentioned will also have an Andy Griffith Show marathon, as that show launches on that station with a marathon from 9am-11pm. We won't repeat the continuation marathons from above that start on New Year's Eve and go into New Year's Day, since we mentioned that above. But the other New Year's Day marathons we mentioned were the launch of The Jeffersons on TV One from 10am-6am. Sanford & Son launches the next night with a 24-hour marathon. TV Land says welcome to "Jan" 1st with a Jan Brady centric marathon of The Brady Bunch from 12pm-6pm! The N welcomes its newest sitcom, What I Like About You, with a big marathon celebration that will last for over a week! SOAPnet will repurpose all of the season two episodes so far of the ABC hit Private Practice from 9am-7pm, as you get ready for all-new episodes on its new night--Thursdays, the following week on ABC. Spike goes with a CSI: NY marathon on New Year's Day, while TNT goes digging for some Bones, USA goes crime watching with Monk, and Bravo welcomes the new year with a resolution for Americans trying to lose weight with a block of The Biggest Loser. Other notables include a Looney Tunes marathon on Cartoon Network (wow, they are airing classic stuff for one day?), South Park on Comedy Central, Iron Chef on Food Network, and American Idol on Fox Reality. And if you missed the Rocky movies on Versus on New Year's Eve, catch them on A&E on Thursday and Friday starting 3pm on Thursday.

Close out 2008 in style! Don't forget to tune in at least for the last few minutes of 2008 as the ball drops in Times Squares. Dick Clark is the way to go on ABC for that. What's your New Year's Resolution? Start thinking!

The PJs will then will move to Saturday nights at 12 midnight starting January 3. And I know I will get asked this, so I will say it...yes, The PJs will remain on TV One and King of the Hill will NOT remain on FX but will remain on local stations. Both deals for Adult Swim are not exclusive, but King of the Hill is exclusive for cable. King of the Hill's last airing on FX is Wednesday at 4:30pm.
King of the Hill will lead-into episodes of Family Guy five nights a week at 11pm. Now all Adult Swim needs to acquire is The Simpsons! He appeared in the 1966 big screen movie The Man Called Flintstone as well, voicing various characters. Then in 1967 he signed on with CBS for The Carol Burnett Show. Korman's claim to fame was playing the perfect straight man to the outrageous slapstick comedy of the other actors in the cast, but mainly Burnett and fellow cast member Tim Conway. They, and the fourth member of the variety show's core ensemble, Vicki Lawrence, spoofed a number of iconic films and television series throughout the show's run. During the show, in 1976 Harvey appeared on the very first Love Boat movie in 1976. Guest stars included Florence Henderson, Tom Boslet, Don Adams, Hal Linden, Gabe Kaplan, Dick Van Patten and Cloris Leachman. After Carol Burnett ended, he had his own show called The Harvey Korman Show in 1978 on ABC opposite Christine Lahti. It didn't last long. In 1951, he announced the pilot episode of the television show that would become I Love Lucy. Mr. LeMond retired from show business in 1971, and in 1972 he moved to Bonsall, where he became involved in real estate. I love when he says "Leave it to Beaver" then reads the cast names. Mr. Martin died of respiratory complications at a hospital in Santa Monica. Laugh-In became an instant hit for NBC in 1968 with its anarchic energy, vaudevillian schtick and eccentric performances. Laugh-In forever changed the variety show format and heavily influenced later programs such as Saturday Night Live. The show lasted through 1973. After Laugh-In, he went on to become one of television's busiest directors after splitting with Dan Rowan in the late 1970s. He still acted on series before and after Laugh-In though...he guest starred on series such as The Lucy Show, Fantasy Island, The Love Boat, Coach, Blossom, Baywatch, Diagnosis Murder and Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place. Dave Powers Dave Powers - Dave Powers passed away on July 3, 2008, in Rancho Mirage, CA, after a hard fought battle with skin cancer. He began his career in television in 1951, when he was employed by CBS as an usher at KNXT, working on the Dinah Shore Show. In 1956, while working in the cue card department on The Bob Crosby Show at CBS Television City, he was promoted to Stage Manager and joined the Director's Guild of America, where he would be a Guild member for the next fifty-seven years. Dave got his biggest break when he became the director of The Carol Burnett Show in 1968. It wasn't officially released until July 16. Chris heard from Joyce DeWitt (Janet on Three's Company) who heard from Priscilla Barnes (Terri on Three's Company). Chris had some very nice things to say about Dave that I must share with you all, "He was a good man, very beloved and enormously talented. Not only is he responsible for so much of Three's Company's under-appreciated signature slapstick style, he was rightly hailed in the industry for his work with Carol Burnett and company. He was always a gentleman during his Three's Company book and DVD interviews, and he clearly loved the Three's Company "kids" -- John Ritter especially -- as much as they loved him." Chris also said, "In his home office he displayed autographed photos of Carol Burnett, Vicki Lawrence and Suzanne Somers in a classic Chrissy pose. "Those are my three ladies," he told me proudly. Also, John Ritter, Joyce DeWitt, Richard Kline, Don Knotts, Norman Fell, Audra Lindley et al always sang his praises. He will be deeply missed." Dave also directed many episodes of both of the Three's Company spin-off shows, The Ropers and Three's a Crowd. After Mama's Family and a Carol Burnett Reunion Show, Dave retired from the business in the late '80s/early '90s. After retirement Dave and his wife Georgette made a fun and rewarding hobby of owning and restoring antique and classic wooden boats which they housed and used at their Big Bear Lake home. Blog DVD Review: Kyle XY - The Complete Second Season - Revelations (Dec. 30)

Welcome to another edition of blog DVD reviews. This week we take a look at ABC Studios/Buena Vista Home Entertainment's Kyle XY: The Complete Second Season - Revelations. Kyle XY is the hit original ABC Family series about a teenage boy with extraordinary abilities that appears out of nowhere and later stays with a family. See my blog DVD review of Kyle XY: The Complete Second Season - Revelations:

Kyle XY: The Complete Second Season - Revelations (Buena Vista, $39.99) brings all 23 episodes from the second season of the hit original ABC Family Channel series! He is not alone. Prepare for twice the excitement with the mysterious arrival of Jessi XX in the captivating sci-fi drama's jaw-dropping Season 2. What is Jessi's connection to Kyle, and might she carry the answer to the ultimate question: Who is Kyle XY? Breakout star Matt Dallas reprises his role as Kyle, the phenomenal young man with an enigmatic past. Unlock coveted secrets from season one and delve into a new level of thrills in Kyle XY: Season 2 -- Revelations. Experience 23 episodes on six discs, a twisting, turning drama that will have you hooked from the very first episode!
The season is divided into two halves. The first batch aired as 13 episodes in summer 2007. Then a few months late the show returned in winter 2008 for the final batch of 10 episodes. Originally both halves were going to be released separately on DVD, and you can clearly tell that while watching this set. The first three discs contain the first 13 episodes and all the extras revolving around them. The final three discs have the last ten episodes and also have extras revolving around those ten episodes. The menus for both halves is a bit different, too, so you know the original plan was these to be released separately. I don't mind though...it is better to have the full season on one set!
All 23 episodes are very good, but the ones that stand out are the "Pilot," "Diving In," and "End Game." Each episode runs approx. between 43-45 minutes (highest being 44:06 and lowest being 42:31...with most near 44 minutes), so it seems it is a bit longer than shows on broadcast television. There are about 8 or 9 chapter stops per episode. 9 stops for the first 13 episodes and 8 stops for the final 10 episodes...another difference. The video and audio is superb, as it should be since it is a current series. The video is in widescreen and for those who watched it on ABC Family, will like it even more this way, if you don't get ABC Family HD! I have HD, but my cable service doesn't have ABC Family HD, so I have to watch in full-frame, so it is nice watching it in widescreen format on this DVD!
Packaging has a nice outer box with Kyle showing he has no belly-button and also an image of Jessi doing the same on the front cover...the back cover has tons of information on the series & set and a list of special features and some screenshots, along with a nice shot of Kyle's head from the side. Inside the box is the case, with the same artwork as the outer box--I hate that. All six discs are inside in three little holders, one disc on each side...so no overlapping this time, good! On the left side, we get a holder for some inserts: Blu-ray DVD catalog and other DVDs catalog such as other ABC Family hits Greek & The Secret Life of the American Teenager. When we remove those inserts, on the packaging itself, we get a nice disc-by-disc breakdown of episodes plus two screenshots. In the middle we get those holders with the discs that you can turn like a page on a book. Then on the right panel we get more images and a list of special features. Disc artwork is in blue and black basically with Kyle on every disc (Kyle with Jessi, Kyle with the Tragers, Kyle with Amanda, Kyle himself, Kyle about to kiss Amanda, and a headshot of Kyle). Each disc holds four episodes, but disc two holds five and disc six holds two.
The menu screen has Play All, Episode Selection, Bonus Features, Sneak Peeks, and Set Up. Sneak Peeks is only on disc one and Bonus Features is not on disc four but on the rest. Everything else is on each disc. Set Up gives us the option to register your DVD and to turn on subtitles in English, French or Espanol. Episodes menu has a screenshot in a square with episode number and title. The main menu has moving images with formulas all over the place in the background, kind of like how it is on the opening title credits. The first three discs it is in blue-gray color while the last three discs the menus are in red-black color. Background music from the series is playing in the background on the main menu and also on sub-menus. Auto previews are playing before the menu comes on disc one such as for the Greek and Scrubs DVDs.
Moving on to the extras. Discs one to three were designed to be released on their own. Disc one has two audio commentaries and four deleted scenes. First the audio commentaries..."The Prophet" has commentaries from Julie Plec (supervising producer) and Eric Tuchman (executive producer). "The Homecoming" has commentaries from producers Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux. Then we have four deleted scenes with optional audio commentary by supervising producer Julie Plec. Find out why these scenes were edited out, most are very good but had to be cut for time. The deleted scenes run approx. 1-2 min. each.
On disc two we have an audio commentary and six more deleted scenes. The audio commentary is on the episode "Ghost in the Machine," from Matt Dallas (Kyle), Julie Plec (supervising producer), and Chris Hollier & Rudy Gaborno (writers). Then we have six more deleted scenes with optional commentary by Julie Plec, with the scenes ranging from 0:43 to 2:05.
Disc three we have a lot of extras, since this was supposed to be the last disc for the first half of season two. First, we have two audio commentaries. One on "House of Cards" from producers Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux. They wrote that episode, too. Then we have commentary on the midseason finale "Leap of Faith," from Matt Dallas (Kyle), Julie Plec (supervising producer), and Eric Tuchman (executive producer). We have two more deleted scenes, with optional commentary by Plec, at 1:02 and 0:51. Then we have a very interesting featurette called "Livin with the X's." It runs 11:55 and it is a day in the life of Jaimie Alexander and Matt Dallas. Find out when they wake-up, how they go on set, what they do on set, when they leave, and more. It is interesting. Then we have a featurette called "Facing the Future" running 7:27. This basically previews what is to come on the second half of season two, called "2.1". So it is previewing discs four to six on this set. See another instance from the original plan of having season 2.0 and 2.1 released separately. Interviewed are Matt Dallas, Eric Tuchman, Bruce Thomas (Stephen Trager), April Matson (Lori Trager), Julie Plec, Kristen Prout (Amanda Bloom), Chris Olivero (Declan McDunaugh), and David Himelfarb (executive producer). Finally, we have an "Alternate Ending" to the finale of 2.0 (episode 13). We get optional commentary from Julie Plec explaining why they changed the ending. It makes sense and I am glad they didn't go this route. You should watch the alternate ending first with no commentary then again with it. It runs 3:39.
Then we move on to the second half of season two, called 2.1, on discs four to six. Disc four has two episodes with audio commentaries. "To C.I.R., With Love" has commentary from Julie Plec, Eric Tuchman, and writer Bryan Holdman. Then the very next episode "The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades," has commentary from writers Steve Lilien & Bryan Wynbrandt and director Chris Grismer. Lots of commentaries from the crew! I like that.
Disc five has no extras, but disc six does. We have thirteen deleted scenes from this last batch of ten episodes, with optional commentary of course from Julie Plec. Most run in the 1-2 minute range but there is one deleted scene that runs 4:20! There was also a scene that was reshot totally, find out why when you watch! Then we have a featuretted called "The Science of Kyle XY," running 7:02. This is a very cool featurette. We find out how science is played on the show and that originally Einstein's techniques were the basis of this show. Interviewed are Matt Dallas, Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux, and Julie Plec. And finally, we have one last audio commentary for the episode "I've Had the Time of My Life," which is the season finale! Julie Plec (supervising producer), and Chris Hollier & Rudy Gaborno (writers) are back to commentate! Find out some hints in store for season three, as well!
I of course highly do recommend any fan to pick up this set. And if you never have watched the show, I urge you to get the first season DVD and also this DVD because this is the best basic cable series EVER! I am hooked and I cannot wait to watch the third season to see what happens from the cliffhanger ending from the second season finale. You better hurry if you haven't watched yet, because the third season launches with ten straight weeks worth of episodes starting Monday, January 12, 2009 airing Mondays at 9pm on ABC Family. The set made some improvements from last time, such as removing the overlapping discs. This series has comedy, drama, action, science fiction, and everything you can imagine. Join Kyle and the rest of the gang in finding out the truth! As Kyle said in the very first episode, "juice me!"

A Britcom On Adult Swim; Big 80s Movies Weekend on Encore

Adult Swim will air a live action comedy series. It has tapped British television for its newest addition to the late-night comedy line-up, Look Around You, a nostalgic comedy series offering parodies of educational programs of the '70s and early '80s. The program will debut on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 1am ET/PT. Adult Swim, known for airing animated comedies such as Family Guy, did air reruns of live action sitcom Saved by the Bell for awhile some years back.
Adult Swim has picked up 14 episodes of the British comedy hit Look Around You, set to air Sunday nights at 1 a.m. (ET, PT) beginning Jan. 18. Created, written and produced by Robert Popper and Peter Serafinowicz, Look Around You is a nostalgic comedy series offering parodies of educational programs of the '70s and early '80s. And while each episode offers a unique, scientific dissection of thesurrounding world, it teaches viewers absolutely nothing. Popper and Serafinowicz star in the show and wrote and performed the music for the series.

Encore is celebrating the weekend between Christmas and New Year's with a Big '80s Weekend beginning tonight, (Friday, December 26) at 8pm through the end of Sunday, December 28! In addition to a marathon of classic '80s flicks such as Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, Uncle Buck, Harry and the Hendersons, Die Har, Mr. Mom, Dirty Dancing, Teen Wolf Too, Twins, Mannequin, Back to the Future and Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo, catch the world television premiere of US Festival 1983 - Day One including performances by INXS, Oingo Boingo (featuring Danny Elfman) and The Clash and interviews with MTV VJ Mark Goodman and Men At Work's Colin Hay.

'Twas the Day Before Christmas....2008 Christmas Marathons on Television

'Twas the day (or night, depending on when you read this) before Christmas...when all through the blog not a creature was stirring, not even Mickey Mouse! Sorry, that was the best I could come up with. Well it is indeed Christmas Eve! Marathons will be airing all this long holiday weekend and we will let you know what and where. We have told you many of the notable ones in our regular stories, such as Retro Television Network's Leave it to Beaver marathon starting today at 4pm and running until 11:59pm on Christmas Day! That's 32 hours of The Beav! Gee whiz, Wally, can't we sleep and stuff? Nope! We have a promo for the marathon for you to watch. Our gift to you! Well, from RTN to you. Enjoy the marathon, if you get the channel.

Now for the other holiday helpings...we told you about BET's Holiday Sitcom Marathons that started yesterday with Family Matters. It continues today with One on One, Smart Guy on Christmas Day, The Proud Family on Friday, and Girlfriends on Saturday. And Fresh Prince to throw in on Monday even. Nice! TV Land has holiday episodes starting at midnight ET tonight running until 9pm on Christmas Day with such series such as Night Court, Cosby Show, All in the Family, and The Jeffersons labeled as their Merrython. Nick at Nite also has holiday episodes tonight and tomorrow, with series such as Family Matters and George Lopez in primetime. We mentioned WGN America's holiday programming, such as the Yule Log tonight and holiday classics like The Flintstones and The Honeymooners today. Catch holiday episodes of sitcoms on TV One, FX, ABC Family, Lifetime, and more in their regular slots today as well. And TBS has its annual showing if 24 hours of the holiday movie classic A Christmas Story starting tonight a 8pm. What we didn't mention yet for today: Family Feud marathon on GSN, Top Chef on Bravo, James Bond movies on Spike and Ghost Hunters on Sci Fi. On Christmas Day, we haven't mentioned: Mythbusters on Discovery, Card Sharks on GSN, Law & Order on TNT, Star Trek: The Next Generation on Sci Fi, House on USA Network, Rocky movies 1-5 on Versus, and James Bond films continues on Spike.
Among the day after Christmas marathons we haven't mentioned include CSI on Spike, Amazing Race 13 on Travel, Super Password on GSN, Highlander: The Series on Sci Fi, and House continues on USA.

Make notes of all these marathons and enjoy them with your family this holiday. Come on back tomorrow for a bit, if you get a chance! Be on the look out for Santa tonight! Clear those chimneys and fireplaces! Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!

Comcast onDemand Adds Classic Warner Bros Channel; BET Adds Fresh Prince Marathon to Holiday Slate

Back in September we told you Warner Bros. has partnered with Comcast to have some of their shows stream online for free on Fancast.com and that they were going to develop an onDemand service by 4th quarter. Well it is now 4th quarter obviously, and they have added that onDemand service on Comcast cable systems! The onDemand channel is called "TheWB" under TV Entertainment on Comcast onDemand. As of now get the first 5 or 6 episodes of urban sitcoms Hangin' with Mr. Cooper, Martin, All of Us, and short-lived drama Jack & Bobby. We don't have a list at press time of what other series they will be adding in the future, but given their vast library, you can expect about anything, especially what is on Fancast.com, which I will tell you in a bit. I'll keep you up to date on any happenings. Hopefully we get more classics on the onDemand service, though. Wouldn't it be nice to have series such as The Hogan Family, Perfect Strangers, Gilligan's Island and the drama Life Goes On at our leisure anytime on TV?
Comcast's Fancast.com has added a lot of Warner Bros. owned series to their website since we last reported. Back in September they only had more current stuff like Smallville, One Tree Hill, and Friends, but now we also get the classics! It seems Warner/AOL's In2TV doesn't really work anymore, so Fancast.com is now the place to go for classic Warner Bros. TV. They have added about 17 series with many episodes of each to their Classic Warner Bros. TV slate. Among the series are Perfect Strangers, Gilligan's Island, Head of the Class, Hangin' with Mr. Cooper, Growing Pains, Mama's Family, Welcome Back Kotter, CHiPs, Eight is Enough, Lois & Clark, and Wonder Woman! All these have been on In2TV, so it is nothing really new, but still nice to have! These episodes on Fancast.com are not in any order and are random episodes...most of them have Christmas themed episodes among their listings, so catch Balki trying to give Mr. Gorpley the Christmas spirit on Perfect Strangers.
One more way to watch Warner Bros. TV is through TheWB.com, but that is mainly for more current series though they do have a few classics in there like In Living Color, as we have told you in the past. Original web series are also on TheWB.com.

Late last week we gave you details on BET's sitcom marathons this week (hope you're enjoying Family Matters today!), but now they have announced one more marathon! The marathon will be on Monday, December 29 and will be the sitcom ... The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air! How is that possible? As with Family Matters, they have borrowed it from sister Viacom station Nick at Nite, and this the series is NOT joining the line-up. It is just for this marathon. The marathon airs from 4pm-10pm, since Viacom doesn't have access to air the series in daytime, due to TBS owning that period for the series. The marathon will encore from 11pm-4am. In other BET week of December 29 news, One on One will lead into the Fresh Prince marathon in the daytime from 1pm-4pm. One on One will also have a mini-block on Tuesday, December 30 from 1pm-6pm. Hell Date returns to the schedule airing in the late night from 3-4am on weekdays. Nickelodeon series Romeo! and Just Jordan return on Saturday, Jan. 3 with back-to-back episodes from 9-11am leading into a six-episode block of The Proud Family from 11am-2pm and then One on One from 2-5pm.
Stay tuned early next week when we give you BET's January schedule (starts 1/5) which will feature The Proud Family, as we mentioned, and also another series...this a long-running talk show that is no longer airing! Find out what that is next week!
For now, once again view the BET Classic Sitcom Holiday marathon episodes list, which now featured Fresh Prince.

WGN America January 2009 Changes, Includes Star Trek: TNG; Wipeout Encores To Air Weekend Afternoons on ABC In January

Effective Monday, January 19, 2009, WGN America will have many new changes to its line-up! But before that, a minor temporary change will happen. For the weeks of January 5 and January 12, weeknights at 4:00am ET will be another airing of Canadian comedy Corner Gas, replacing the 4am half-hour of Sister, Sister. Sister, Sister will remain at 4:30am ET these two weeks, while Corner Gas will also remain at 1:30am ET these two weeks.
Then the new winter schedule starts on Monday, January 19! Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie have been airing on weekdays in the 9am ET hour, with single episodes a day. Now they are on the move to afternoons and double airings! Bewitched will air weekdays at 2:00pm & 2:30pm ET, and I Dream of Jeannie will follow at 3:00pm & 3:30pm ET! The shows will still air on Sunday nights, too! On weekdays, the shows are replacing Homicide: Life on the Street at 2pm ET and two Cosby Show episodes in the 3:00pm hour. The Cosby Show will move into the 4:00pm hour as a result, followed by an hour of Scrubs at 5pm ET and Becker at 6pm ET, giving the network their strong sitcoms from 2pm-7pm ET. So, the entire daytime lineup has been altered. 7th Heaven moves from 6pm and 7pm ET to weekday mornings at 9am ET. Looks like it hasn't performed as well as they would have liked after returning this past fall. Airing at 7pm ET will now be America's Funniest Home Videos weeknights, except Tuesdays.
On Tuesdays, WGN America will add the '80s hit Star Trek: The Next Generation in the 7pm ET hour and also in primetime at 8 and 9pm ET for a nice three-hour block! The primetime block replaces a block of Nash Bridges, which will still remain weekdays at 12pm ET. Primetime will also change on Wednesday nights as now we get back-to-back episodes of sitcoms Coach at 8pm ET and Becker at 9pm ET replacing AFV and Legend of the Seeker encores. Coach will leave the Sunday night block, though, replaced by Cosby Show Sundays at 5pm et. Mondays in primetime will remain two AFV episodes and Thursdays & Fridays we have movies still.
In late night, after The Bob & Tom Show at midnight ET, we now have a rotating wheel in the 1am ET hour instead of a strip of Reno 911/Corner Gas. Mondays in the 1am ET hour will be another America's Funniest Home Videos, while on Tuesdays we get another helping of Star Trek: The Next Generation...makes sense as both air in primetime on Mondays and Tuesdays. Wednesdays it is a different story though! We get another hour of '80s sitcom ALF! ALF will still remain Sundays in the 6pm ET hour as well! Thursdays and Fridays in the 1am hour will be back-to-back episodes of Reno 911. The show has to air 5 times a week, so four episodes will air there. The fifth episode will air late night on Sundays at 5am, so technically Monday mornings. Reno 911 on Sunday nights will follow Homicide: Life on the Street at 3am and 4am ET, as Homicide is now relegated to just two airings a week and only on Sunday nights.
Back to weeknight late nights, Steve Wilkos Show still remains in the 2am ET hour (Chappelle's Show on Friday nights) and Paid Programming is in the 3am ET hour still. But then...4am-5:30am ET will now be a rotating block instead of just Corner Gas, Sister Sister and Moesha from 4am-5:30am ET. On Monday nights (Tuesday mornings), we get three episodes of Corner Gas, its only airings now on the line-up. WGN America says it has a loyal audience but unfortunately it's too small and they couldn't get the numbers they needed to sustain it...but at least it is still on, even though it will be just three airings a week. Tuesday nights (Wednesday mornings) will be three episodes of Moesha, while on on Wednesday nights (Thursday mornings) will be three episodes of Sister, Sister. We get more Moesha on Thursday nights (Friday mornings) from 4am-5:30am ET and finally on Friday nights (Saturday mornings) we get three episodes of Funniest Pets & People, which is off the weekday afternoon line-up now.
Finally, the only other changes we have not mentioned are on Saturdays. Saturdays at 12 noon ET will be another Star Trek: The Next Generation airing, replacing one of the two Bob & Tom Show encores, Bob & Tom will remain at 1pm ET. And finally, Becker primetime has been moved to Wednesdays 9pm ET, so replacing Becker on Saturdays at 6pm ET will be another AFV leading into Boston Legal.
All in all, not bad changes, unless you loved Corner Gas, 7th Heaven, Funniest Pets & People, Sister Sister and Homicide: Life on the Street...they were lessened, but not removed at least. In fact, they didn't remove anything totally! Good programming!
View the full WGN America January 2009 line-up, in case you missed anything.
