SitcomsOnline Digest: Starsky & Hutch Reboot?; Norman Lear Developing Pilot at NBC

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! It has been a crazy week with a solar eclipse (not quite this one) and other events, but things in the world have entertainment have been rather quiet. However, we are hearing about another reboot (big surprise!), a pilot at NBC from Norman Lear, and more. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
  • It isn't a matter of wondering if a reboot of a classic series in the works, it's a matter of asking which one. This week, it's Starsky and Hutch. (Hollywood Reporter)
  • It is still a long way from becoming an actual TV series, but Norman Lear is still active at age 95, and is now developing a pilot at NBC. (Variety)
  • The creators of The Mick have signed a two year deal to develop more projects for 20th Century Fox. (Deadline)
  • For a big chunk of the past quarter century, ABC has aired America's Funniest Home Videos at 7:00 PM slot on Sundays with a few exceptions, such as the few seasons it only existed as specials, but it appears ABC is going to be changing things up at least slightly for the fall. (Deadline)
  • Bill Nye is suing Disney over unpaid royalties from Bill Nye the Science Guy, the series that made him a household name. (New York Times)
  • Fox News had a reasonably stable primetime lineup for decades, with just a few changes here and there, but it seems that something changes every few months these days, and now Laura Ingraham may be in line to get her own primetime talk show on the network. (Variety)
  • The "Summer of Me" is ending on MeTV in a little over a week, which means it is time to begin "Fall for Me." (SitcomsOnline

TUESDAY (AUGUST 29) HOME MEDIA RELEASES
Will & Grace - Season One
  • Will & Grace - Season One (Universal) (DVD, $29.98): It isn't a new release, as Lionsgate previously released the series over a decade ago, but now Universal is releasing the series themselves, ahead of the debut of the reboot.

Who to Follow: Diane Guerrero (Twitter)
Claim to Fame: Diane Guerrero is probably not a household name that you know, but you may recognize her from some of the work that she has done. So far, she is probably best known for her role of playing inmate Maritza Ramos in the Netflix series Orange is the New Black, but at the end of the season (sort of a spoiler alert, though we really don't know what happened), some things happened to suggest her character may not be back next season. That's just fine though, because she already had a new gig lined up, as she will be a regular on the CBS series Superior Donuts next season. She has also had a recurring role on the series Jane the Virgin.
Pick of the Tweets: "So honored to join this amazing cast and crew @superiordonuts @cbstvstudios I hope you guys like Sofia as much as I do! 🙌🏽🍩 (pic)" (August 24, 2017)
