SitcomsOnline Digest: New Projects From Hazy Mills and John Stamos; Antenna TV Announces New 2017 Sitcoms

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! As we're preparing for the new season of sitcoms (which will literally kick off on Monday), we're already hearing quite a bit about the new series we might see in the next round of sitcoms. Also, we're hearing about some new things coming to Antenna TV next year. Let's get going!

  • NBC has bought a new family comedy from Suzanne Martin and Hazy Mills, the same studio that brought series such as Hot in Cleveland, Crowded, and others to television. (Deadline)
  • It wasn't that long ago that we were talking about James Burrows directing his 1000th episode of a TV series, and now Pam Fryman is approaching her 500th episode as a director. (Deadline
  • John Stamos is on board as executive producer for a somewhat unusual drama about being a soap opera star in the 1980s. (People)
  • Antenna TV is adding nine new sitcoms to their lineup in 2017, including some that haven't been seen in syndication for several years. (SitcomsOnline
  • In the much shorter term, Antenna TV will be airing a marathon of The Monkees tomorrow, in celebration of the 50th anniversary. (SitcomsOnline)

Who to Follow: Erinn Hayes (Twitter), "I'm that person from TV. Kevin Can Wait on CBS Monday nights 8:30 starting September 19th!"
Claim to Fame: We're continuing with our theme of stars of the new fall sitcoms this week with Erinn Hayes, who plays Donna on Kevin Can Wait (debuting Monday night on CBS). Hayes got her start with some minor roles, as well as a somewhat odd role of playing Pam Dawber in Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Mork and Mindy back in 2005 (when these "behind the scenes" of classic TV series specials were big), and found her first recurring role in the sitcom Kitchen Confidential, which only lasted half a season. Her first big taste of success has come from the series Childrens Hospital on Adult Swim. She had a brief time as a star of a broadcast network sitcom in 2012 with the NBC sitcom Guys with Kids, but now, she is hoping for success with a role in a sitcom that stars a proven sitcom star, Kevin James, in Kevin Can Wait.

Sitcoms Airing Tonight

Friday, October 21

Last Man Standing - "Trick or Treat" (ABC, 8:00PM ET/PT)
It’s Halloween and the Baxter family is excited for their annual party, except for Mike who’s reluctantly tasked with choosing the theme. In hopes of turning everyone against the holiday, Mike decides that maybe if the whole family has to dress up like each other they’ll end up making fun of one another. Eve dresses up like Mandy and Mandy dresses down like Eve, Kristin and Ryan swap roles, and Mike shows up to the party as… Donald Trump!? The impersonating turns into bickering but in the end, the Baxters come together to support Vanessa as she learns that she’s being laid off.

Dr. Ken - "D.K.'s Korean Ghost Story" (ABC, 8:30PM ET/PT)
On Halloween, Allison is disappointed the holiday doesn’t seem to scare Dave anymore, meaning her little boy is growing up, perhaps too fast. But that might change after D.K. tells a scary Korean gwishin (ghost) story. The Park family, as well as the gang at Welltopia, bring the story to life playing the various gwishins.

Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse - "Jack" (OWN, 9:00PM ET/PT)
Marcus deals with the loss of one of his former teammates.
