SitcomsOnline Digest: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Renewed for 13th and 14th Seasons; Encore to Rebrand Networks

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! This week, we've got news of a sitcom renewal that is tying records for longevity, a rebranding for Encore channels, and more. Let's get going!

  • It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia just wrapped up its 11th season, but it has been already been renewed for thirteenth and fourteenth season in 2018 and 2019, which will also allow it to tie with The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet as the longest running live action comedy. (Hollywood Reporter
  • Encore announced this week that they will soon be rebranding their networks to Starz Encore, and by soon, they mean by Tuesday. (Variety
  • TV Land is developing a sitcom that is set in purgatory (literally). (Deadline)
  • It seems like O.J. Simpson documentaries are all the rage these days, and now Investigation Discovery is getting into the game with a documentary series that looks at another hypothesis. (Deadline
  • A few weeks ago, Shout! Factory posted an article online to tell you how you would know if you received a bootleg version of a legitimate DVD set, and if you have purchased DVD sets from third party sellers online, you may be surprised to find that some of your seemingly legitimate DVD sets are actually bootlegs. (Shout!)
  • Sitcom stars Patty Duke and James Noble both died this week. (SitcomsOnline)

Who to Follow: Scott Weinger (Twitter), "Writer/Producer for ABC's super awesome comedies GALAVANT and THE MUPPETS."
Claim to Fame: We featured several Boy Meets World stars over the past couple of weeks, and we're sort of continuing the ABC TGIF in the 90s theme this week with a Full House cast member, Scott Weinger. Weinger is known to TV fans for playing the role of DJ's boyfriend Steve on the series, and he actually appeared in 50 episodes over a four season span. However, he is perhaps even better known outside of his on-screen work, as he was the voice of the title character in the Disney movie Aladdin. Unlike most other Disney film voice actors, who often tended to appear in the feature film role and not participate in further projects, Weinger has continued to voice Aladdin in sequels and TV series spinoffs. He currently has a recurring role in Fuller House, but acting is not where he really shines these days. Instead, he works behind-the-scenes, and serves as writer and producer for Galavant and Black-ish, and is also a co-executive producer for The Muppets.
